it's a single stage phase change, it doesn't matter you're impressed or not as I just wanted to post my result to share with other folks :rolleyes: I am very please and very impressed and that's all matter. :lol: 0546 XPMW that I just yanked out was naked and needed 1.63v to do 3.0Ghz on the same phase change, once I remove the IHS the load temperature during dual priming should be somewhere around -5~-10C' this is a dual core for crying out loud so the massive heatload is to be expected. Out of curiousity I stopped the prime and dropped the vcore down two more notch, it's still priming away at the moment and the underload temperature is more like it now :woot:

Just got my 170 ordered from mwave.com last week. It's a 0546SPMW.

Weird I thought my post went through last night. Hey guys. I have a brand new 0546 XMPW sitting on my table until I get my 7800gtx to finish my rig. I noticed that It got pretty good clocks ive kept onto it for a while. You guys are going nuts over the 0550 UMPW. Should I sell this off for $400 and try to risk buying a 170 from either newegg or another online retailer and if so, what online retailer will give me the best chance? (im looking for retail 170 only). I want 2.7ghz 24/7 stable the easiest way possible with my TTBT at under 1.5v. Im usin a DFI Expert and 2gb Gskill HZ.

Tankguys.com have Opt 165 0550 for $330. You can pick the stepping there.

great result, 0550 seems to do good.
Got one ordered dunno when I get it though.

I guess I'll ditch my coldbug safe 150 and try a dualcore as I originally intended. I'm not even sure if I'll go back to phase anyway. I actually feel content getting a decent oc on air.. I dunno whats wrong with me.. maybe I should see a doctor :confused:

Any word on the cold bug on the 0550 UPMW?

my 0550 UPMW is fine at -48C' evaporator :D :D

put it in and went straight to 2.7 @ 1.46 :) posted at 3.0 ghz (if only it made it into windows :\) and made it into windows at 2.8, but didnt want to bother with stability tests as i noticed my rad fan was off for some reason and the temps were going really high

How long could you stable SP2004 at 3G vcore 1.36V?

I got a 0550 VPMW today. But I'm having some issues getting it stable. I can clock it high without failing Prime (got it to ~2.8GHz) but I will randomly get these BSOD while Prime is running and hasn't errored. In some instances, I can get it not to BSOD at all (within a single windows session) but when I restart and "tweak" the bios I get the BSODs again at <2.7GHz (where I've been stable in the past).

Any ideas?

BTW- these 0550 VPMW CPUs seem to be really good!

The IHS is still on...YES ithe sucker is still on!!! This stepping reminds me of my single core 148 CABNE, it has EXCELLENT memory controller as I can use the exact same timing as the CABNE wherea in the past I'd always had to relax the timing for all my X2 :eek: the 0546 XPMW that I received from ZZF last friday needed 1.63v to do 3.0Ghz, 1.60v always result in core 1 failed prime instantly....won't even last 2 seconds! Since the newer 0551 stepping is starting to hit the street and their overclockability is still unknown I'll see if I can get my hands on few more of these 0550 UPMW :slobber:

I haven't try lower vcore or higher clock, it's still priming at the moment but I'll yank the IHS later and see how far I can push this beast!!

was doing some overclocking with my 165 and whenever I raised volts past stock in bios I would just get a blank screen, no bios or anything

any ideas?

i'm fully aware of that, but his voltage is low enough that it doesnt seem that the temps would even get that high on air

yup I'm on single stage phase change, but I'll give it some good ol' air action next monday or tuesday when I receive my Zippy 700W PSU, have to bust out my trusty Big Typhoon very soon, 3.0Ghz on air is very likely but IHS might needs to be removed to keep the temperature in check :D :D

thanks man, earlier I let it ran for only a bit over an hour but had to stopped it to try 3.0Ghz @1.30v :p: unfortunately 1.30v was a wishful thinking and couldn't dual prime, now I'm back at 1.36v and will let it run overnight before I go to bed and post back result tomorrow ;)

Thats the sort of chip that would be great for an HTPC, high clocks with very low Vcore is always the combination to strive/hope for :cool:

Can you put the IHS back on? I consider taking it off while running air, but if I go back to phase, I think it will be best to have it on.

I also have a Big Typhoon and worry about it's crap mounting if I take it off. Is the CPU more fragile with the IHS off?

damn looks like the 170 0550 UPMW is what need to replace my 3200....been tryin to find the perfect one that clocks well and wont flake out w/ my vapochill....

thanks man :toast: this is definitely an excellent candidate for graphic and HTPC, it ain't bad for gaming either so I'll see how it does on air next week, this chip is great :D

Hey can u post some OC results with tht chip!!!! U will be the 2nd person to show wht 0551's can do. Im very interested in the information you have shared abt the vCore. As your chip is showing default vCore of 1.3v then it is coming of a different die process (i hope i got this bit right) than older Opterons!!!
