Hi Leeghoofd,
In about 1h-1h30m when I go home for lunch I'll post a screenshot of Everest Cache and Memory Benchmark.
DRAM Static Read Control used to work fine on my P5K Premium (with any FSB).
On the P5Q Deluxe it only works well with FSB400.
Anything above this will cause instability and sometimes the PC won't even boot.
BTW, what FSB/multiplier are you using?
Remote Desktop Connection sometimes comes in handy... :ROTF:

Rusty what kind of memory do you have?
Do the temps read low on the p5q-e 0610 bios?.Mine says 28c on windows now with my chip at 3.2ghz(400fsb) at 1.35vcore(stock for my chip i believe)
rusty, you guess wrong ;)
Just because I have 2 startup icons for my Brother printer (MFP), 1 for my soundcard, 1 for my Razer mouse, 1 for my Seagate external HDD, 1 for my bluetooth device, 1 for AnyDVD, 1 for Windows Mobile Device Center and 1 for my antivirus, it doesn't mean my benchmarks are affected.
You've probably noticed that Everest was running and showing temperatures too..
I can assure you that if I disable (exit from) all those icons, my benchmarks won't produce better results.
Believe it or not, all those icons are neccessary for my kind of computer usage and don't take more than 500Kb of my 4GB of RAM (ok 3.3GB actually on a 32Bit O.S.).
On the left side of my taskbar you can see a "big" quick-launch bar.
What do you think needs more resources, shortcuts on the desktop or shortcuts on the quick-launch? :D
Hey guys first post in this thread, checking in.
I am stable at 3.6ghz with a GO step q6600.
My VID is 1.3125 (1.313v)
Almost everything in the bios is auto right now with the exception of manual control over cpu multi & ram timings.
Vcore 1.425
Cpu Multi x8
FSB 455
Ram 1:1 5-4-4-12
Enabled the function to limit vdroop
Speed Step, C1E, Spread Spectrum. All that jazz is still on since I leave my computer on 24/7 and have had no stability issues so far.
Prime95 Stable, I am seeing max temps of 50c on the Tcase and ~70c for the 0&1 Cores and 60c for the 2&3 cores. I would like to keep 3.6ghz for my 24/7 settings but try to reach higher for benchmarks.
I figure following the general rule of +15% of your VID means I can "safely" put 1.5v into this cpu but others tell me here and there that thats too much. I was 3dmark06 and wprime stable @ 3.8ghz 1.47vcore but its not prime stable. But I have yet to mes with the GTL values or to disable some of the options known to cause instability in a high overclock.
First things first, whats the max safe temp under prime 95 I should look for using coretemp or speedfan for the cores & tcase?
Also was curious why this mobo has a x63 for 2 of the cores and a x67 for the other 2 cores under the GTL (or was it PLL lol) ratio... should they not be the same?
Rusty are you aware that for good superpi runs some benchers prefer the Luna windows XP desktop... I don't have many apps launching here... I try to keep my rig as clean as possible but for regular benchmarks (not chasing any records ) You won't notice much on a regular windows install with or without many apps loaded...
If you want to grab every extra point, I suggest you to install a bench OS like most of us do... which is about 300-400megs for an XP install... almost no apps that eat resources, no internet explorer,...
I edited a bit your post 3.3vcore seems a bit much... as long as you can cool that CPU 1.5 is no prob for day to day running, I try to keep them cores under 65°C for 65nm, 60°C for 45nm... but you will have to tweak the settings for the mobo manually as you said most is on auto... these mobo's really do overvolt on the chipsets and that's not good...
For the PLL I keep them on auto most of the time... but many users use 0.63 for both...
You really got a good CPU with a VID that high that still can do 3.6ghz at 1.42 Vcore....
Yeah saw them Rusty, even with that much voltage they look reasonable... really puzzled with your CPU and my Xeon too as they seems to love voltage... and most of the others Q9450 them speeds that at 1.3ish level...
yeah I went back and edited that a moment ago. I had my son jumping up and down on me and caused some typos lol. 1.425 vcore bios 1.313VID for the cpu. Windows shows me 1.40 or 1.41v usually with no vdroop now that I have load line calibration enabled.
I noticed I was more stable with x67 for both of my PLL settings, atleast I thought I was as I had not been able to finish 3dmark06 before I tried that, but I think it increased the temps of my 2 hottest cores by yet another 5c. I mean thats what that setting does, its the divider for the voltage the cores get right?
If you say under 65c for the cores looks like I hit my max already. High end air cooling with a thermalright ultra 120 extreme cooled by a single 1600rpm s-flex. (tho hooked to the cpu fan header it only runs it near 15000rpm)
It has alot to do with my case I am sure. Antec P182SE GREAT case but definitely not a enthusiast super overclocker or dual card case as its incredibly quiet and has decent airflow but not high airflow since that entire upper chamber has only 1x120mm fan intake and that fan is behind a dust filter & a door. I do not notice cpu temp changes with those off but my dual 4850's drop 5c idle and 10c load just by opening that door and taking off that filter.
3.6ghz will carry me quite nice for most things, but I have a cpu bottleneck for 3dmark06 and probably a few other things too, so thats why I really wanted to get near that 4ghz limit.
About PL in 1102 + PULL-INS: 1&3 Enabled .... did anyone get PL=7 with 8*450fsb ?
Leeghoofd,
I'm running Prime Blend now with the following setting:
AI Clock Twister: Stronger
I've benchmarked Cache and Memory with Everest before starting Prime, and I couldn't find any significative difference in R/W MB/s or latency.
Just want to know exactly how far I can go in what concerns memory performance with FSB400.
Can you kindly let me know what FSB/multiplier you're using? :)
P.S. Official BIOS 1003 sucks. Lots of problems with SATA device detection in BIOS. Asus should remove it from their website.
Just added one more manual setting put AI transaction booster to manual and then changed the common performance level to 10.
I did not see any change in my wprime time but I guess I would need a memory benchmark to really see the difference. Also my divider is 1:1. I thought 1:1 is always the most optimal for performance, but looks like from the bits and pieces I can see that a different divider may be better? I only have DDR2 800 memory so I dont think it will go too much higher and I consider myself lucky its stable at DDR2 910 with 5-4-4-12 (the epp profile, it defaults to 5-5-5-15 if not set manually tho)
