Aw hell I should just pick up another 8800 Ultra for SLI
Even saw an increase in performance over the 9800GX2 in at least one game I play..........even with the newest drivers.

question is: is the 280gtx worth the jump from a 8800gtx sli?
From a performance standpoint, I doubt it. Performance will probably be close, as 8800GTX SLI should be a bit faster than a 9800GX2 and the GTX 280 should be a bit faster than the GX2 at high res.
Previous high-end SLI -> New high-end has never given you much of a performance increase, except 7900GTX SLI -> 8800GTX.
but what about 8800 gtx sli to gtx280 sli??? :D
I'm going with the most performance from a SINGLE gpu card as SLI and crossfire/X2 cards have to many compatability problems. Not to mention the need for a cirtain mobo in most cases.
That puts the GTX280 at the top of my list. It will give me 2X the performance of my current 8800GTX with all the advantages of a single gpu card;)
In terms of pure FPS values, GTX 280 will probably be a bit higher than 8800 GTX SLI.
But in terms of fluidity/playability, GTX 280 will absolutely blow away any card to date, including 9800 GX2.
Nvidia managed to keep the Chinese sites contained this time around
Great post by Mythbuster420 at EVGA forums , is the industry laughing WITH or AT PC gamers ?
With $650 for an incremental change , Gee I wonder.

Well, actually... The 8800GTX/ULTRA is a different beast.... Its the only card I can remember that lasted ( still "lasting" ?) almost 1 1/2 yrs as KING of the crop...I just did not expect the same kind of monster released this time simply because of lack of competition from ATI.. I wont go into the wholwe marketingbuisness 101 crap, but they wouldnt release new hardware that they have in the wings unless they have to in order to make $... That would be just plain retarded from a buisness standpoint. I am fairly certain both companies have the technology already developed to keep up w/ demand for at least 3-4 years in advance.. Meaning you can bet that right now, in some room at nvidia, sits some freaking monster of a core / prototype card etc that will run crysis at 100 fps MINIMUM.. If you dont believe that , then you are in denial lol... But the card makers dont release tech just so they can say "hey look what we made".. They do it for 1 reason.. TO MAKE MONEY.. Its always been my belief that the card makers have enough technology already developed to last at least 3-4 years in advance.. But only let it out "AS NEEDED".. or as they need to just to keep "ahead" of there competitors.. Sometimes we see "stop gap" products released to get by w/ out having to release there "next level" stuff if they dont really have to.. the GX2 is exactly that.. INTEL does the same things w/ cpu's all the time.. another name for it is the "tick tock" method..In a perfect world, each new card would be twice as powerful as the last card.. in EVERY ASPECT, EVERY RESOLUTUION ETC.. But of course this isnt that world.. Ive been growing more and more depressed with the continuing incline of the PC hardware ( mainly vga's / GPU's ) makers efforts to what seems like trying to make PC gamers comepletely dependant on buying new hardware every 6-12 mnths... Now with the birth of "SLI" and "Crossfire", these companies have the best possible avenue of milking every last hard earned cent from us PC gamers.. I used to have a crappy DELL and always longed to be part of the "leet" pc gamer club.. The ones with the uber pc's that could play any game at max settings.. I always felt "left out" and that I was missing soo much... It wasnt untill I decided to build my first $ 2.5k PC that I realized that its just not all that its made out to be..There are so many dishonest, imorrall and sometimes just plain outright illegal practices by software/hardware manufactures that I really do believe that PC gaming is currently the worst platform for entertainment ( bang for buck ) there is..And now with "SLI, Crossfire, TRI SLI".... These companies are going to the next level of gayness and trying to make it so ( some ) ppl have to buy 2-3 600.00+ video cards just to play a 50.00 game "the way its meant to be played" .. Right now is THE WORST time for anyone to be into PC gaming or building/benching as a hobby.. ANd if things do n ot take a turn soon I think PC gaming as we know it ( somewhat mainstream ) will die and the only ones that will be able to play a game the first 3 years after its released will be people that have way more money than sense..
That's only possible if there is NO competition, or that there is an agreement between the two companies. And if there were such an arrangement, AMD/ATI wouldn't be willingly losing so much money from their previous generations. Or there won't be a price war between AMD and Nvidia over their new generation cards. At least if the rumours of the 4800 series card being so cheap is true.
So no, I don't believe in that bullcrap. A prototype that runs 100fps in Crysis.... Someone who really believes that is the one in denial.

For 1.
Loved that bit. ;)
lol this guys doesn't have the slightest clue what development cycles are. :ROTF:
Thought he mentioned the tick tock strategy of intel he fails to understand it....
He just asumes that company allready (now) have the architekture ready for the next 3 years and just wait to release them... this is utter BS.
And if 40-100% more performance is a marginal increase then i dont know what people want to have....
whats up with crysis @ Medium?
why not high, very high or ultra high? and with some AA and Af
I suggest Mythbuster420 buys a PS3... then he will have less hassles... think he never ever changed an autoexec.bat or config.sys in his life to make a game even install, like we had to do in the 386i days...
He seems to be missing the point that software pushes hardware forward and not the other way around... and there's still money that needs to be made...
Asus GeForce GTX 260 Unveiled
i'm glad there are company's like evga xfx etc. to make respectable looking graphics for their cards
those asus cards are still "heart touching"
VR-Zone used an Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 (3GHz, 12MB L2) @ 4GHz.
I'm using the following:
8800GT 512 SC SLI (650/1900)
Q6600 @ 3.5GHz
My 1680x1050 results:
DX9 1680x1050 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: Medium, Overall Average FPS: 69.16
I don’t have 1920 x 1200 so this is my 1920x1080 results:
DX9 1920x1080 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: Medium, Overall Average FPS: 68.435
And my 1900x1200 results:
DX9 1900x1200 AA=No AA, 32 bit test, Quality: Medium, Overall Average FPS: 68.34
This was interesting as the scenery moved by I watch rocks pop up on the beach. I didn’t know rocks could grow so fast!
From this little exercise it looks like a GeForce GTX 280 is only slightly faster than a pair of 8800 GTs. Could that really be true? I want to see what happens Monday.
There preliminary conclusions say they are hard at work on Crysis High settings as well along with AA so we can hope it gets better.
Rock keep popping due to the default draw distance setting. tweaking your settings a bit would get rid of popping objects. hehhee
Geez some people really care too much about what their video card looks like :D
When you're sweaty-palmed in the middle of a session of Crysis and that korean you swear you saw a moment ago is nowhere to be seen, where the hell did he go?
You look around, cursing your energy bar for being too low to yet engage the cloak. All of a sudden BAM the guy is on top of you making you jump out your seat but mash the mouse button to take him out at the same time. After a few clips his bullet riddled corpse slumps to the ground, you enjoy a sigh of relief, and think 'man.. i wish i had a better looking VGA'
24 left before we know the absolute truth:p:
