Hey guys, I posted at the DFI forum, and so far the help I was offered for the QX9650 issues seem to work. Before I would freeze at every boot, and could not instal Vista. Follwing the advice given, I now have vista installed and no freezes so far! Knock on Wood.

.......Stay Tuned.
Nice to see you got it running. Strange though, you wouldn't think you'd have to go through all of that just because of a cpu swap. I would have thought that just clearing cmos and installing Vista at stock settings would have been enough. Good info for future reference though. I'll probably have to do the same if I decided to pick up a Q9550 when they come out. Thanks for sharing.
OK, the issue came back. I have a feeling Vista is borking the bios somehow. It installs one time after clearing the cmos, but then i think it rearranges something, and then after refuses to install gain. Maybe I need to disable Plug and play os or something. I dont know.
Anyway, I am now running xp x64 smoothly. I wish there was a resolution to this. Arggghhh!!!!
i had some trouble with qx9650 and dfi x38 lt not because vista but because i use 4 dimms. i cant pull memory over 1000mhz stable. my ram are transcend pc9600 and they are great the problem is de xip7 x38 that isn't very friendly with qx9650 and 4 dimms.
i manage to get 400x10 ram @ 960 rockstable but every time i pass 410 fsb sistem wont be stable. i had a asus p5e and had the same trouble with fsb over 400 i manage to get 360x12 stable but i dont like asus and bougth this dfi ....
maybe x48 will solve the problems of x38 with 4 dimms and qx9650..
Well I went to the Egg yesterday trying to purchase this board and its been pulled.
Discontinued ?
Anyone know what its replacement will be?
just to give you a feel that it is a bios problem in regards to the 9650 with this latest X38 DFI board, which i have and it was one of the reasons i parked it in the closet...i tried CMOS clearing and it would not do it for me!...it works great (vista) with my Q6600 like you.
NOW, on the IP35 Pro, the same cpu (9650) works fine with vista on every boot up...it is not vista causing the problem; it has to be DFI's bios changing resource assignments or something that is dorking up vista.
I suspect that it is out of stock for the near future (was saved in my wish list but then was gone). I was going to recommend ewiz.com, but looks like they just ran out yesterday as well. They are out there, but it will take some digging to find one for a reasonable price (took some google searching for me to find one).
NCIXUS has them in stock, however it will ship from canada to their location in Washington, then to you. I assume that would take a week (as with all shipments from canada delivery time can vary).
http://www.ncixus.com/products/27482...20X38-T2R/DFI/
Another suggestion, is that the product's stock number for each company may vary, so simply searching x38-t2r wont yield all results (example: ewiz was listed as LTX38TR).
i read some where it won't be in stock again until april...has anyone tried zipzommfly or motherboardpro?
EDIT:...just checked; motherboardpro shows it out of stock and zipzoomfly doesn't have a listing for it.
they (dfi) will have more in after the 18th of this month. and the vendors will see them shortly after that. i was told by a source (not dfi) to expect a price increase due to the release of the dark x38 though.. cant say for sure if its true but thats what they said and they are a pretty good one. imo i would call motherboard pro and ask them to do a pre order for you. this way you can get locked at the 249$ they have (newegg did go up to 269$ right before they pulled it) they might do that for you i know they have been great to me so far..if you chat with motherboard pro i liked dealing with mellissa but mike is awesome as well.
also i do not see the mobo on ewiz any more..
ewiz ran out of stock either yesterday evening or today (mwave, zipzoomfly, motherboardpro, directcon, etc. are all out for the time being). There are a couple on ebay, which I would bet is the individual who purchased motherboardpro's remaining stock (page description is very similiar to motherboardpros). However the picture listed is not the same board, so buyer beware. A couple other places have it listed on froggle, but they list it in the $300 dollar range.
Once again, for the most part, NCIX has a great reputation (from what I hear), but shipping from canada can be a pain sometimes.
yeah like i said thought if you can wait just a bit longer motherboard pro will have more ...should be right after the 18th
Exactly. I have swapped every single piece from my system one by one. I have tried 1 stick of ram and 4. Same problem. The only thing that helped is swapping the cpu. Well that and using xp.
I am used to vista now. I own it and feel it would be a waiste not to use it. I am also a little annoyed that I would have to run my qx9650 on my server (my main is watercooled, the dfi included), because this board has issues.
I have been building comps for years and have never had to take a battery out for hours like dfi has indicated. They suggested RMA, but If others are having the same problem as me then it is just a waisted effort.
Hopefully a new bios will come out to fix it.
Abit's IP35 Pro initial bioses had problems with raid and vista with a Q6600..single drive installation was ok...abit finally fixed it on the 2nd beta bios...what surprises me with mobo makers that the bios engineers must not test the board with vista and a qx9650 to make sure it works as it's suppose to!...you would think the newest cpu out and the newest OS would be the challenge and you would think that DFI would want to make sure that combination work correctly.
So, I have a weird one: I can't get windows to boot on my board when I am running at stock speeds. It gives me a BSOD right at loading windows and reboots before I can read what it says. Is this strange or normal? is there some setting I need to play with to get it happy at stock speeds? Any help would be appreciated.
which window version?
i would suggest higher Vdimm and Vcore, even for default speed.
Vista 64. I tried 1.35 vcore and 2.1 vdimm. no luck
the next best thing to accomplish is to pop the battery out and set cmos to clear for a time...don't forget to unplug your PSU and push the power button in to discharge your capacitors...normally 5-10 minutes is a good time for clearing but you make your own mind up for time limit.
have you tried just one stick?
Is it possible that your OS is borked?
Well, I am posting from the computer right now. It boots no prob at 3.7 but not at 2.4.
what divider are you using at stock and at 3.7?
