What's everyone using to cool all these impressive OCs?
SOme air, some water, some chilled water etc. I use both Air and water on mine
Here's my suicide run (i moved my whole case in the balcony while it was snowing outside...)

32m prime is about as equivalent and booting into windows.
i'm looking for 940 overclocks. i know ever chip and board is different but i'd like to see some recent OC's.
i finally got my phenom on water and i'm curious to what everyone else is getting OC wise. i had the H50 setup on it and wasn't too thrilled with the performance which is basically just a glorified air cooler and wasn't any better than my TRUE 120 i had on it.
I doubt you'll see many new 940 overclocks, it's been a long time since it was introduced on the market. I don't own mine anymore. Watercooling gave me about 100MHz more, compared to Xigmatek S1284C, if I remember right. It was running at 3.89GHz on water, but can't remember the voltage, maybe smth like 1.55V. Had a wall at 4GHz.
Well, I've been playing with my overclocks since I received my Asus M4A87TD EVO and 2x2gb Corsair DDR2000 mem last night (which is funny because even though the box says it supports DDR 2000 (OC), there's no option for it in bios). Man, I spent 2 hours trying to figure out why it kept bluescreening trying to install windows...just needed a bios update -_-
Anyway, so far I've managed this OC.
3 hours OCCT stable (stopped it after that). My board really doesn't seem to want to go above 200 in bus speed, which looking at others hitting 230+ it seems kind of weird, no idea what I'd be doing wrong. It fails OCCT after about 40 minutes at 1.382v sadly, but surprisingly it actually stays at 1.392v at idle and load, nice vdroop control with some bios options. I know there's still plenty more to tweak and I'm still working on getting that vcore down...3.9ghz takes way more voltage (1.45v or higher) so I think 3.8 is the sweet spot.
the DDR 2000mhz OC i think is only possible by OCing the cpu, my asus M4A88TD-V is the same way
for the bus speed, drop all things to stock, the NB, the HT link, and multi, then up it to 220 and give it 1.4v, its an extremely minor OC, but should prove if there really is an issue with the bus.
im thinking HT Link is set to auto as it is too, because I think anything higher made it crash. but yeah I'll give that a shot and update.
alright, it booted fine at 220 - i think it just needs a lot of volts pumped into it (i'm pretty sure I left it at stock)....now to see how high I can my bus and memory while keeping 7-8-7 ;P
volts set on the cpu would have most effect on the total cpu speed
there should be a voltage called CPU-NB which does help high bus speeds, but you shouldnt touch it very much if at all to get near 300mhz bus. play with this very carefully
the real limits are generally the NB or HT which gets too high due to bus overclocking. at 220 your HT is 2200mhz (might be its limit) or for NB which i saw at 2400, would end up around 2640mhz and thats very close to the limit for NB unless you add some volts or have a really nice motherboard (890 chips probably like it that high without any voltage change)
keep your HT around 2000, it dosnt need to be very high anyway
your NB should be around 2400-2600 for optimal perf of an ok overclock, but can easily go to 2800+ with some volts. although at that speed you would only gain a hair more memory bandwidth, but have more stability issues to worry about
since you have a BE chip, you can just leave the bus at 200, and keep your ram slower, and just tighten the timings to get out the extra performance. your ram does seem to be doing very well anyway. so honestly you can stick with your current settings and probably be just as happy.
wow thanks Manicdan, you've been a tremendous help. screenshot below is what i'm currently OCCT'ing :) 245ish seems to be my wall, even 1.4v would bluescreen at 250.
voltages set in bios:
CPU: 1.384375
CPU/NB: 1.15
DRAM: 1.65 (default)
HT: 1.25
NB: 1.15
*crosses fingers*
spoke way too soon on that one - failed within a few minutes. i lowered the NB freq, but is there anything else besides the HT you'd suggest changing? voltages?
if you have cooling on the VRMs, then you can increase the voltage more, but honestly after this point its going to be a massive drop in power efficiency to get more speed.
Yeah - I'd really prefer to keep it at the speed it's at and under 1.4v. I used to really not care about how high voltages were but I guess I like the "power efficiency".
By the way, dropped the NB to 2458mhz and it's been OCCT'ing away since my last post =)
Hmm...been priming for a while now @ 3.85ghz 1.39v with 240 bus speed and i'm hitting 60c...I think I need to reseat my TRUE 120 because I don't recall it ever getting that high on my last board.
edit: just as i figured. I took everything apart, put a penny in between the mounting bracket and my heatsink, and made my rear fan exhaust so it'd all go through the back, max temps i've seen in the last 30 minutes is 51c. hopefully it keeps up =)
*sigh* ok, after countless hours (5-6+ a day since monday), I think I've finally found the sweet spot for everything. Constant tweaking of memory timings, random tiny increments of voltages, HT and NB speeds, OCCT testing, the whole works. OCCT stable for 3 hours, this is fine. 3.9ghz was stable at 1.46v but really what's the point when I can run 3.8 at 1.39. anyway, I'm happy for now.
seems my bus speed wall is around 250 at any decent voltage, but I didn't want to raise my memory's voltage passed default so I'm leaving it alone. I'M DONE lol.

Well his thread is ancient. Just adding my recent results on air. Looks like my memory speed is the difference between my sp1 and memel's
Ι had forgotten this thread....
these are my results with the 980BE from post #1744
