Let me tell you guys Vista feels much quicker than XP now, probably because of those drivers. I just installed them and got quicker boot times, but I haven't been in XP much because I'm enjoying the Vista experience...

They have some beta drivers for SoundMAx, but the Microsoft ones work just fine, no DTS but then, no DTS in XP anyway...

You're ok, I have a slightly more efficient Arctic 7 Freezer and I can push the voltage a bit more and stay under 60c...if you want to do a quick bench you can raise the voltage, but I wouldn't run at load temps above 70c for long.

When I couldn't get the stock cooler to mount properly, I actually hit 85c and the thermal protection throttle-back months ago. Probably took a month or two off my processor's life, but who knows?

i finally listened to some music through the onboard sound with the newer drivers provided here. it sounds horrible compared to my old sb live 5.1 card. when the volume is higher, the music sounds distorted.

what would be the best bios for me? the latest is 0804

my system would be a C2D 6600 and a pair of 2X1gb OCZ DDR2 PC2-6400 Platinum Revision 2, and i will do a hard Overclock to the system, at least i want to reach 450 fsb with 1:1 memory

What? I only bought this board so I could update to crossfire when games start feeling slow, am I going to be limited to 4x pcie when I do this? If so I may as well return it and get the p5b with one slot.

And is the 0804 bios stable? I use a 07xx now, i have no problems, but i want to overclock, is the 0804 better for that?

Should I try to reseat my HSF? The new design for intel boards and the Zalman heatsink make it difficult to make sure the heatsink is seated properly.

HDD Enable write caching on the disk

Might be related to some HDD slowness ?

I have enabled HDD in bios for AHCI fot the Intel chipset , also enabled ENHNCED
I have installed my winxp and used F6 to provide the InteL cipset driver (AHCI)

When Ii go to device Manager and ouble click on my HDD properties going into POLICIES TAB, i can see that both options are "greyed out" and there is a dot on the second one, while Enable Write caching on the disk doesnt have a chek mark.

Is this normal ? can this be a cause for HDD not performing to its best ability ?

also checking the Write cahce option once done makes it grey and you cant uncheck it.
did anyone have any experience with it and knows whether this behavior is normal, and what suppoed to be the best normal setting for it ?

0804 works fine and oc is good
except my pcie@1X problem, this is a "good card"

Ughh installed the above drivers, slower boot, plus BSOD with something about cdfs driver mistakingly marking itself pageable, reverted to older drivers.

Uh, yeah. I got a faster boot. The beta was floating around. It's like the driver in Vista now (in Vista the drivers seem better, if you boot up into Vista from XP, it hangs, but on second restart, no hang), no hang on searching for drives on restart. I think that's been discussed here maybe, it seems AHCI/RAID drivers were doing something to the boot sector that was causing the slight hang. It seems to be fixed...Which reminds me, I gotta go install it in Vista now too!

No problems here. Maybe you didn't F6 install in the first place if it's your boot drive?

4580 Audio Drivers -fooled us

Guys

I think we've been fooled.
there is no DTS in those drivers, I will expalin below.

I'll start form the end.
I think those drivers are exactly the same as teh 4530_32bit version that has no DTS (found on the ASUS website)

I told you guys i am not feelign its 100% perfect and i was right. this same feeling i had with the 4530 no DTS version when i tired it. it had small boot delay like now as comapred to the DTS version.

Now why do i thought we have DTS in this version,
Reason was that the soundmax pannel showed DTS TAB, but try to set things in it and u will see its reverts back to nothing, it doesnt keep the settings.

This is because there is no driver suport for this.
and now you ask so how come we have DTS TAB there with those Drivers ?
the ANSWER is simple, these are NOT stand alone drivers, they were supposed to be installed on TOP of the 4570 DTS version, this means the 4570 DTS version layed out the grounds for the sound max panel, but the 4580 just overun the core driver and left the leftovers unfunctional and not suported.

Basiclaly Asus wanted us to keep quite so they "made a so called advanced numebring onthe driver 4580" so we all be happy its "new" and basiclaly disabled DTS.

feels and looks like they wraped hte 4530_32bit version with a new numbering and overun the core 4570_DTS drivers.

a bunch of crap.

If you want to use Xfire you will have 1x16 and 1x8 PCIE.

i would try higher Vdimm up to 2.4v and higher Vcore up to 1.55v to come out of a hibernation state.

also...try switching to S3 to see if that is any different.

I have this same issue with my disks, enabled it and then it goes greyed out all of a sudden and you cannot change it ever again after that(maybe if you uninstall disc again and do a redetection?). Guess this could explain worse performance in windows but it would not explain slower boot on P5B Deluxe compared to much older boards with older cpu's that have faster boot:)

Unknown Device Driver is solved by installing Asus AISuite. I think this sucks personally, and perfer to live with the unknown device.

Nop this looks to be fine, and probably enabled by default via the AHCI driver.
O compared with a friend, i think its a result of using AHCI. I think if you will switch to IDE then that option will have its function we we got used to it.

I think it's predefined and implemeted in the AHCI driver as it configures and handles hte HDD.
