Do some methodically testing to rule out components. To me it sounds like either a bad CPU og tricky memory. OR simply a misunderstood way of getting some juice out of these Dothans...
I would pull off the vapo, work on getting above 200FSB on air with low multis (charlie managed to get a 3GHz clock though booting below 200FSB...)
Otherwise sell that multi 13 CPU and get a 730 (multi 12) instead.

I have to say i am getting a little frustrated with the dothan.
I just finished doing the vcore/vmem and vdroop mods the a p4c800-e deluxe rev2.
setup a stormg4 water block and 2x thermochill 120.2 rads with mcp650 from the p4 i used to use.
the new geil pc4000 arrived today so i can run at 250fsb no problem
set bios to 1.6v 230fsb still have multi mocket at 6 but that is ok i can just set it in windows.
boot into windows ok as normal cpu-z confirms i am running at 1.64-1.62v
set fsb to 233 and the system just hangs so water cooling and 1.62v made no differnace i still cant get over 233 any more.
just trying with setting fsb to 166 in bios and ram at 200 see how far i can push that.
it could be the bios causing me problems with the 6x multi but i dont think so.
the only thing that's left for me is get the temps down with a water cooled pelt or somthing like that.
So, at this point wich board works better with Dothan CPU's. OC's better, is more stable, has better options and both multi and fsb can be changed...?
Any suggestions?

The p4 is so fast in windows everything responds instant when windows loads but the dothan is slower you can tell after running one after the other.
but the power of the dothan side is impresive ..most impresive
It's been said before, but I'll just reiterate...
You need a 730 or a 740 to run them on AIR the way they're meant to be run. I've tried for 2 days to get my 750 to load windows on AIR (even my Zalamn7700Cu) and it just ain't gonna happen. Once in Windows it'll run sPi 1M at about 2750 on AIR, but won't load windows at 2814 (201fsb)...
So just to remind peeps... 730 or 740!!!!!!
EDIT!! I did manage to get it booted/loaded on AIR, lol, but by resting the evap of the autocascade on the edge of the heatsink for 10 minutes and THEN flipping the switch, hehehe...

It seems even the 2600 that the 740 requires is a bit chancy. So the safest bet is the 730. And the 730 seems to overclock just as well as any other. Quite often people will buy higher rated chips to get the better binned pieces. But with these it doesn't seem to matter much.

Only bad thing about the 730 and 740 is if you're competitively benching with phase/DICE or LN2 and you wanna' run 250-260, 1:1...
The 12 and 13 multi's may leave you a bit short.

Mounted my Zalman 770CU with AS5 and got HUGE improvement in temp... now able to boot at 201fsb, and stable AIR clocks look to be about 2760-2810mHz....

i am having problems with the latest 1022.003 detecting the multi it's locked at 6. After setting multi to 12 with eist some programs still show the cpu speed as if the multi was 6 and sandra benchmark gives cpu score of 5000 when it was 11k before. memory benchmark shows fsb 4x230 which is correct but ddr speed of 2x115.
I am going to use the 1021.003 bios see what that does. I could try the p4p800-e 1007 bios but the p4c800-e has intel lan and so the 3com one on the p4p800-e bios stops lan from working.

Some benchmark will revert the speed to the original speed you use when you boot (6 x whatever fsb you set in the bios) no matter what speed you set using clockgen and eist.
Sisoft sandra, everest, and pcmark 2002/2004 are those which are affected and gives very low score.
3dmark 2001, Final fantasy benchmark, aquamark and super pi are those which are not affected.
I think its related to the bios (remember, its beta bios and still buggy).
Anyway, I am actually quite happy with the beta bios, I can boot with fsb higher than 200 using pentium M 760. The voltage regulation also works very well, showing voltage ranged from 1.3 to 1.6. Those asus engineer are getting there to provide us with perfect bios (change multi and voltage). :)

Can anyone guide me thru an Asus P4C800-E with a Dothan 725? I got this today and flashed it to the beta BIOS 1022.003.
It WILL NOT boot without saying NEW CPU INSTALLED press F1 for SETUP or F2 to continue (loads defaults), If I change the setting for halt on errors (F1) it will boot and just load windows with the defaults again.
I can change the multiplier in BIOS and it will keep that 6x 10x whatever, but FSB, dividers, etc it sets to defaults on each boot stating the NEW CPU message as above!!! (it did this on a P4 prior to flashing the BIOS as well) So I'm stuck in this loop, So,......Is this mobos fuxxored or is there a simple fix?

New adapter with all the pins means the mobo keeps BIOS settings because it can see it's the same CPU as the last time it booted now :)
HOWEVER, There does seem to be "issues" with this BIOS as as I cannot go over 160FSB or it won't boot, or will lock in Windows (if set there) with this Dothan. This is a 2.4Ghz @ default volts CPU on the P4P800SE, but on this P4C800-E it won't 166FSB at any speed (6 x 166 etc) this is 1:1 ratio on the mem : FSB.
I just swapped to a 1.3 Banias and it does 2.4Ghz 13 x 185FSB no problems whatsoever, so I'm gonna stick with that I think for now.
Suggestions on the FSB issue on the Dothan on this mobo? Changing to another CT-479 adapter made no difference.

I can confirm the latest beta for the P4C800E does have full multi support with the 400fsb cpu's...so try this, adjust the fsb jumpers to 400 on the CT479 and see if this allows you to adjust the multi for the 533 fsb models.

Didn't do squat. The 1022 BIOS makes it boot up at 6x, and changing the jumpers for a 400MHz didn't change anything. I'm typing this up folding at 217MHz fsb, so that looks ok as well.Quote:

How can it have a 160FSB ceiling? ..... unless the multiplier isn't "actually" changing and it is still @ 16x multi maybe. I didn't do Pi runs to compare different multis to see if they affected performance (or maybe I did, I did so many damn things I can't remember now LOL) CPU Z shows the change and the speed just fine though.
ANOTHER ISSUE for you: I get no L2 cache on my 1MB banias (dothan core)!!! 512kb celeron M shows the cache, 2MB Dothan shows the cache, 1MB Banias show NO BLOODY CACHE!!! WTF is going on?
I tried a P4P800 and flashed that to P4P800-E beta bios, and it gives exactly the same results as the P4C800-E, 160FSB limit on the Dothan, 185 (ish) on the Banias. This mobo SHOWS the cache is there in BIOS for the Banias, but all windows apps don't see any.
The FSB limits appear to be solid walls, volts do nothing to help.

quite all right with you, my dothan 725 is fsb160 limited, cannot go past 160
whatever vcore applied (even 1.6v bios)...but the "advantage" over P-M 533 is cpu ratio access with p4c800ed +bios1022.003

It's the only reason I can see for this, but then this is contradicted by the fact that the Banias go to 185FSB. So I have no idea on this sorry.

The 162 fsb limit is the same as the 715 Dothan I used had. Not an ounce more, no matter what vcore tweaks or whatever. The chips just randomly appear to hit a brick wall. You have the advantage of a higher multi which means you can ramp up the CPU speed a lot.
The 533's are much easier going on FSB, this 730 just hit 255, where either the mobo or ram's maxed

ct-479 & 730 Sonoma arrived
the ct-479 was missing 1 pin on the lower outside edge and another was bent and snaped when i tried to streighten it however it still works
useing stock cooling and U wire mod for 1.55v it seems stable at 2450mhz 10x245 2x512 2226 it crashed while primeing at 2500mhz temps were 30 idel 52 load
