I've heard rumors that some of the 7900 cards had problems switching from 3d to 2d mode. Based on what happens to your dad's card, it just might be true. Does the card artifact at all or is this the only problem?Quote:

When its cooler (around 76F), I can play 3+ hours of fear without any noises from my gtx. I guess that nvidia really needs to look into this.
Ah that did it, thanks! :D Work's great now.Quote:

Well heres my XFX 7900 GT report.
Product: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150144
Core is 470MHz stock, mem is 685MHz stock
Before i installed it i put 2 iceberg copper heatsinks on the back on those 2 chips that are reported to get insanely hot.
Had it for a week or so... played UT2k4, BF2 all maxed settings no problem. Temps were ~49c idle, ~59c load. Then installed the zalman vf900 and i was really supprised at the difference. idles at ~40c and load is ~49c. Since most reports said the artifacts were because of the higher memory clock, i decided to try to just overclock just the core. sock is 470, and i got it up to 525 no problem. I ran 3dmark03, and when it got to the middle of Game2, artifacts everywhere. exited out, and same results with going into 2d... screen just flashed from black to the desktop and i had to restart. After that i clocked it back down to stock. Same results on 3dmark03. Shut down the computer overnight, tried 3dmark03 the next day on stock clocks, same result.
Looks like my card is toast. By the way, core temps never broke 50c this whole time :/ and the memory clocks were never touched. Hmmmmmmmm
edit: UT2k4 and RvS both play and exit find without artifacting. I guess its just the stress testors that will get to it right now.
My Inno3d 7900GT arrived to day and it has mint color caps :(
gonna put some heatsink on those IC that are noted to overheat b4 i run the card, also can anyone point to me detailed guide(s) on the conductive ink volt mod.
Its not only the caps that got replaced. I dont have a cam right now so i cant post pics het but heres a little description of the card i got.Quote:

Those gold plates near the power connector and near the caps are still silver on mine and a lot more, so im speculating thats the new PCB revision of the card. if mine is defective i hope it dies no than making me wait 3 months after
Maybe it's the revision with HDCP support.... http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=105622
But it isn't supposed to be out yet for at least another month...
Boo i probably won't get that HDCP support since i'm returning my card now instead of next month...
Maybe I'll get it if i RMA the new card
None of the "problems" mentioned... XFX 7900GT Extreme Edition (rock @ 550/1600 air).
Nah, mine is an old revision.Quote:

im starting to think that cooling on this devices is extremely under rated
Don't worry man (after ~1 hour of Battlefield 2 playing):Quote:

And still stable! :p:
anyone check out the Palit 7900GT with 512mb?

http://images.tweaktown.com/imagebank/pal512_06l.JPG
its a different arrangement, but i still see 2 mint caps on the top right there hmm
holy 91C ! i was under the impression that these cards would hit 75c with stock coolers. Anyway i have my VF900Cu-Led ready just testing the stock cooler's performance so i have an idea how much of an improvment i got.
Anyway what i critically need now is an OSD similar to what ATI Tray tools provide me FPS,GPU temp and an optional CPU and freevideo ram indicator. any tool like that for nvidia?
Oh and whats the optimal frames to render ahead?
Installed the VF900Cu-led ( w/ AS5 ) now my load temps are holding at 55~56
Those are great temps... I wish my XTX would respond that well on it.... :(
i already knew that the 7900GT's had artifacting problems but still i ordered one at bytes@work. however i never thought of reading it here (instead i went to guru3d) but now i am practicly :banana::banana::banana:ting in my pants when i read all this. normaly i would have taken an ATI X1800 card this time but offcourse they are nowhere to be found in belgium. if they DO have the cards on there online shop they are overpriced or cant be orderd anymore. so i was looking at the X1900XT instead wich was offcourse to expensive.
by the end of the week my new setup will arive, hope i dont get same prob's as you folks do. but, if i do get them prbs, what would be the best? try and RMA it once or switch to ATI directly. i could sell my other gainward 6800GS agp for 140€ or so and pay the difference with that (offcourse that aint enough but i still got some other stuff to sell). i'll chek on those caps to and see if it makes a difference over the mint ones.
edit: oh nice, just found out B@W got a sapphire X1900XT for 400€, i know what i'm gonna get when my 7900 craps out on me
edit2: well apperently eVGA got there probs fixed on some of there models, they anounced a recall:
Everyone,
EVGA is announcing the following new SKU’s to its 7900 Series of products.
7900 GT Series
New part number - Existing part number
256-P2-N580-AR - 256-P2-N560-AX/BX/DX

7900 GTX Series
New part number - Existing part number
512-P2-N571-AR - 512-P2-N570-AX
EVGA has been working out the new SKU’s to resolve the issues that some users are experiencing with artifacting during 3DMark06 and random games; we have been manufacturing new cards based on a new AVL list.
Here are the details on the new 7900 cards:
* New AVL Memory (Approved Vendor List)
* RoHS compliant
* Test results are extremely positive
If you are an EVGA user that is experiencing artifacting with your 7900 Series products we ask that you submit for an advanced replacement through our website directly. If you are not experiencing artifacting then there is no need for you to submit for an RMA, the number of cards that are having this issue is very low in comparison to the number of 7900 Series of cards that have shipped.
Please allow 2 business day for your card to ship once you have submitted for a replacement board. These boards will be shipped overnight to you via UPS in the US, and for Canada will be USPS Express.
Please visit www.evga.com/rma/ and make sure to select the Cross-Shipping option when going through the RMA procedure to apply for this new card.
If you have any further questions, feel free to contact me at the address below.
Thanks,
my 7900GT sucks at overclocking in stock volts.. only at 515Mhz core...
shoul i bother vmodding this or would vmodding my card wont help much since the stock voltage overclock is poor?
Can you provide more info on the card? How are the temps?Quote:
