Update. I had to knock my memory down to 900, 990 had massive artifacts in 3dmark03. I'm going to check voltage again today on the vmem and see how that is. Knocking the memory down to 900 only lowered my 05 score to 10481, so only 200 points, not bad.

Also when I was using powerstrip I would raise/lower my memory speed and hit apply and the screen would go blank for a second and then ask me if i wanted to keep these settings? Well anything above 947 it wouldnt do the blankscreen for a second. I would hit apply and then it just ask if i want to keep these settings? isnt that odd? So like 947 would do it but the next. 950+ wouldnt.

oh ok, didnt know you didnt have that great of an OC'er. Yeah I plan on putting more volts into the core once I get a battery for my multimeter and do the vmem mod. Do it all at once instead of doing 1.5 now. putting back (its a pain cuz its watercooled and the tubes dont give me much slack) then pulling it once again to the vmem mod so ill just wait to do both at once.

got 651 with 1.4 got 675 with 1.55 stock air

1.55v now at 711 on water 24/7, can go higher maybe by using ati tool or riva havn't tried. wil try later.

I like ati tool because of the heat up phase, i usually sometimes shoot for higher clocks and hate to half way thru 3d run crap out, tool usually stops that from happening and enables less irritation

wow.. this is the thread for me.. getting my GTs next week (tues) and my Zalman 700s a couple days after that.. look to do the "easy" vmod and frequency mod at first.. I need to get a conductive pen.. I think I know an electronics store in Sunnyvale which will have one.. whew.. reading this thread got me psyched! :D

how where the temps @ 1.55 with stock cooler? did you happen to do 1.5 and what was the difference in temps. My card idles 42 now with 1.5...was idling 37/38 with 1.2 volt and zalman 700-cu

How do you remove the conductive ink? I went from 1.4v to 1.45 but I don't think the gain is worth it so I want to go back to 1.4v.

Nail polish remover, or straight acetone, will soften the conductive ink. Use a cotton swab to continuously go over the ink lines until softened, then use a finger nail to lightly scrape up the ink.

I have a modified NVSilencer 5 Rev3 I'm using. My temps are good I think (43C Idle, 58 Load). Should I even bother removing the extra 0.05v and bring it back to 1.4v? I get about 15 more mhz before I get artifacts when I go from 1.4 to 1.45 (635mhz @1.4v, 650Mhz @ 1.45v). Opinions?? Is there a lot more damage risk at 1.45v?

I believe you are fine with either 1.4 or 1.45, 58c load is perfectly fine.

Do you get a good contact between the NVSilencer and memory?
I have a NVSilencer 6 that fits perfectly without any mod but lacks the memoryfins..

Contact to the memory is good but not perfectly aligned. Contact is good but the pads for the memory are not perfectly centered on the memory modules. On a few of the modules, there is a couple millimeters that is not contacted by the pad(s). not a big deal at all IMO.

I'll just leave the card as is I guess. If anyone else has any opinions regarding voltage, let me know!

guys try just the 1.4vgpu mod first.
only do higher and switching frequency mod if you need to after testing.
the vgpu vreg gets very hot over 1.4.

is that those 2 IC's are get very hot? me thinks its time to blow a fan on the backside of the card hehe

anyway. I did the vmem mod and lowered the resistance down to 553 to make the voltage 2.2 (2.23?).

How much do i need to lower it to make it a flat 2.3? be nice to know how they figured out that 553ohms (from 603) increases the voltage from 2.02 to 2.23 as well, so i can figure it out on my own down the road.

the vgpu vreg is the one that can be modded directly to increase vgpu. it gets very hot.
the vmem ones are the two usually reffered to and frankly i don't think the vmem mod is worth it for 24/7. two cards have died from bad vmem mods already. the vreg IC burnt up.
for a quick bench on a cold night with a fan OK but 24/7 i wouldn't risk it

I'm runnin 24/7 vMem mod. Forget what resistance I set it to though. I can get fairly cold in my room, and I have a zalman 7700cu blow air on my 7900gt's backside so that helps ALOT.

I did a lead pencil on the Vmem resistor. Do I really need to measure the resistance? I'm worried I may get MORE than 2.23v on the VMem. Can you go over 2.23 using the lead pencil?

Oh dont worry... if you put too much volts and you get horrible artifacts or even puffs of smoke, you will know that the pencil can be used for more than 2.23V ;)

It doesnt cost much, and its useful for lots of things.. buy a multimeter.

I measured it and it looks like the resistance with the pencil was about 555. Turns out the Vmem mod was not getting me much on the memory anyway (only about 15-20mhz) so I removed it.

you were very lucky to hit 555 completely by accident. a few more strokes of the pencil could have ended in disaster
wize move removing it imo. in my experience things like humidity can change the conductivity of the penciled resistor
the ram also gets hellishly hot at anything like 2.2vmem
by what i've heard the samsung 1.4ns is already 10% overvolted at 2.0vmem.

I laid the lead on heavy so I think 550ohms is the lowest you'll get with Pb.

iRoNeTiK - yes. it gets extremely hot with 1.5vgpu and the switching frequency mod.
too hot for my comfort. it did survive a few benchies and may survive indefinately but other IC's would burn up around that temp
1.4vgpu without switching frequency it feels a lot cooler.

CxP - i've been lower with a pencil
and please stop promoting this unproven theory of yours before someone blows their card based on it.

I'll have to buy some heatsinks for the IC's.

Now it is time to do some ram oc'ing :D

it's the middle of the night here so i'm not testing now.
it is however a very good question and i'll test it shortly.

i usually do the fingertip test :p: but i'll do it properly.
fingertip test of the full 1.55vgpu with frequency mod against the vmem vreg at 2.10vmem feels like the vgpu vreg is quite a bit hotter.
and since someone burnt his vmem vreg at about 2.3vmem i'm just being cautios with the vgpu one.
for all i know it's rated to 100degrees and perfectly safe
maybe someone can track down the rated tems of the two main vreg's?
