Golden FX-57 dead - another DFI Expert victim?

You would really have to try hard to damage the chip or anything else from just taking off the fan/heatsink to lap (which they all desperately need) and apply AS5 or Ceramique

I peeled off the soft foam protector, lapped, replaced the square foam protector (not that its really needed), applied Ceramique, reinstalled with extra spacers to the spring push thru holders to the rear of board for more pressure between chip and sink and now my chipset never goes above ~ 46c, before it used to get to 55c :rolleyes:

One thing that has not been asked or answered, did you damage anything OPB when you did what most ppl here do, change TIM on the chip ??

I am very sorry to hear that Kevin.
I just bought a Ultra-D a few weeks ago and I am very happy with it so far. But I will never recommend or buy a DFi board again. Not just because they might have produced a faulty batch, but the way they behave to their customers aint quite the way I think customer support should be.
Accusing someone of damaging the NB by removing the stock heatsink whom they send a prototype board because of his great skills of overclocking and setting stuff up is just ridiculous. Looks like they think that they still have enough customers left..
I cant understand at all what DFi is thinkin.

That's my case....i didn't change anything on the mobo, didn't make any kind of OC, and my FX-55 and my 2GB Patriot mems died. Let's see what DFI have to say about that now.

There are any physical damage, but the cpu is really dead test it on another 3 boards, just don't boot and turns board down.

I don't think I ever get such great overclocker/non codbuged CPU like this ..this is really frustrating :mad:

It is not the first time that happend (remember OPB's.) my previous FX-57 run on the SLI-DR for many months on phase without any issue..

So may advise is : for now stay way from the DFI Expert if do serious overclocker ..or at least do not put valuable and precious CPU's on it..

I hope DFI can give a convincing explanation about this ..

Sorry to hear it, but almost 4.0Ghz from an FX? That's asking for trouble.

jus for the hell of it did any of you with a loss ever clear cmos by jumping to clear jumpers and removing the battery . wanna see i there is any common ground

theres a new bios and it seems that removing the bios battery caused all the issues?

Hmm, flashed my Expert to 11/25 beta bios and did the battery removal as well. My Opty 170 is still alive.

Hopefully my eXpert wont have any issues untill i upgrade to another mobo, but all this DFI rant lately makes me want to go away from them.

Not just killing cpus, ram and mobos, but lack of support. what they said to OPB is insane, and useing beta bioses kill all warranty? thats lame.. :slap:

did you increase the vcore on that opty mrlobber? maybe its isolated to the rdx , but i dont see why that would be. tyia awaiting posts to try and make sense of this

Nope, loaded optimized defaults before the flash, if I remember correctly.

Btw, a little offtopic, but cannot get my Redlines over 213htt memtest stable with tight timings so far on this board.

i was referring to ever upping your voltage after you cleared your cmos by the battery procedure.

Ahh, got it. Have run 1.5v Startup voltage and CPU Vid Voltage. Haven't touched CPU Vid Special control yet.

I didn't clear CMOS or remove the battery, until i had 3 leds red (until my FX amd Mems died). Only before the 3 leds red and a long "beepppp" i've made a clear CMOS to try to boot, but never removed the battery. I moved the cmos jumper only.

Does the battery removal apply to the Expert too?
Because if I read Angry's reply, this only affects the LP UT RDX-200 CF-DR, and the beta bios is for that board too, not the Expert.

I thought you had a pre-release board of the Expert? You never answered that question. I am curious, because obviously that should changes the situation, they certainly shouldn't cry "user error" to a person they found worth to give a test board.

Did that reject come from the U.S. DFI support guys?
