yes..but it seems that with these retail cards, we are able to clock the card through 2d clocks, by disabling "ATI smart". that alows us to use the 2d locks as 3d clocks. the only way to clock the card right now:)

Can you explain this please? Is "Ati smart" a function in AT beta9? I don't see it.
So there is a way to use AT beta properly?

(when i used it, it had some weird behaviours. For example i set a core speed of 650. Then i start 3DM05, and between the tests i saw AT beta had set the core speed back to 380mhz!)

ATI Smart is a service loaded in WinXP bootup. You can disable it easily: STart => Run => "msconfig" and then uncheck the service.

well..it seems that disabling ATi smart and ATI hotkey from services.msc alows us to raise the 2d clocks as 3d clocks. if you dont disable them the card will reset back to defult clocks when ever starting a 3d app.....sometimes lower. and it resets the voltage too.

disabling those 2, makes sure that it does not reset back to defult, but you then have to set the clocks in 2d mode, course the 3d is disabled from ati smart. it works....

i´m also confused why it works like that. but also happy that there is a way to oc the card:)

Unfortunately,what is working for sioux,doesn't work for all of us,i have disabled the two ati services and atitool still does exactly what apple740 is saying.If i alter core clocks even 1 notch,as soon as i start 3d,atitool will reset either to default or 378mhz.If i alter the memory clocks,i get a black screen entering 3d.The voltage options were working for me,but after all the messing about i seem to have lost control of core voltage.I have tried with/without ccc,but it was totally erratic without ccc.I have however managed to run 2d clocks of 681/828 on stock volts and heatsink,using the overclock to adjust clocks.Using atitool to adjust volts and overclocker for 2d clocks,i ran 770 on core at 1.575v and seperately ran 846 2.25v on the memory, but unfortunately it won't all work together.You can't beat good old fashioned hard-mods.

you HAVE to use oc tool for clocks......otherwise the "trick" will not work. you cant use ati tool for clocks....only for voltage:)

Mine core does 782 on stock volts. need 1.45 for 800 :)

With the stock cooler/no voltmods the party is over for me @ 730/840. Will watercooling improve this significantly?

Thats pretty dam good for the stock cooler! What brand is that? and what temps do you get? How are you clocking it?

I lied, wasn't 100% stable after all. With 715/828 it is. It's a Sapphire, Ati tool beta reports ~61C under load (fanspeed @ 100%). I'm clocking it with the OC tool from Driverheaven.

With A64 3500+ @ 2750 = 10.089 3DM05

Opened the ASUS P4GPL-X box I've had a while and turned the soldering iron on. After some soldering I had a nice Dothan platform with PCIe slot and needed voltage adjustments (Vdimm @ 3.3V, chipset voltmod). The CPU ain't the best clocker and does only a bit over 2.7G with this default aircooling so I started with somewhat safe setting of 2.7GHz (11x245, 2-2-2-5).
3DMark05 at 2.7G with default X1800XT clock:

The FX57 system I have reaches only 9174Marks at 2.8GHz with default X1800XT clock so the Dothan seems to give a nice boost for Mark05.

Here is also a quick 3d2001 run I made with 2.7GHz CPU speed (RAM at 245 2-2-2-5) and bumped the card speed up to 712/841 for the Nature test (this was just enough to reach the 39k barrier).

475FPS Nature aircooled :D and I didn't even push it to the limits yet so its looking good. I noticed that the Nature score got a boost from upping the CPU and RAM and PCIe clock and was clearly faster than the Nature score I got with AMD platform.

I have another 740 and a 730 to play with and those should reach higher speeds. Watercooling or Dryice play is the next step.

Still ownage for an air cooled rig..

I was thinking at first that this was being build for a air cooled ultra gaming rig on air, but now im confused, is this to be #1 air cooled rig :P
