It's a picture of me in Intel Developer Forum Fall 2005 (San Francisco) holding a nice framed board full of Intel's next generation CPUs (Merom, Yonah, Presler, Cedar Mill etc..) and a Pentium D wafer in the middle. That thing is worth of over $200 000 according to a Intel representive:

generally they frame the non-working samples... the wafer is probably a developement sample too...

well, i think that the new ati generation will have a great impact in overclocking, because we can tweak the volts to get more oc, it's really impressive how the oc performs in these generations, that's i think there is the diferences between ATI and nVidia cards.

I count around 28 die across the diameter (best I could do from the picture). Assuming it's a standard 30 cm wafer that comes out to around 625 gross die. Even if the yield was 100% that's $320 a processor just for the die if the wafer is worth $200K. If the yield were 80%, that would give around $400 per processor die, cost. Seems aweful high huh? :D

The real value of the wafer is a tiny fraction of $200K. But I bet the value of your wafer is probably $0 because I can't see anyone handing out good wafers. :D :D

Grayskull...you're forgetting that those are actually Smithfields, so it's only 14 across ;)

Anyway, to the guy who said R580 would be 700MHz....let's not go that far into the future, we don't even know it's shader architecture (not that we knew the R520's until a week or so before) and thus can't even begin to make a MHz judgement, then add to the fact that it's like 5+ months away :stick:

@Sampsa....those are some hi-tech looking kegs ya got, what kind of special brew ya got in there? Is it even legal to drive with that much beer in the front seat? :D

I think it's time for a :toast: for your work so far....can't wait for the LN2 action and a shot at 1GHz/2GHz!!

I'm just saying what Intel rep told me, I've no clue what a wafer full of dies cost and how they determine the value. AND it's not my wafer... for god sakes they didn't let me keep that :D
