sounds like he gave you the "i don't know, but i'm going to make it sound good" response. he probably wiped a layer of sweat off his forehead once he got off the phone with you. rehearsing his written response to any callers inquiring about the venice, and at the top of his note, reads: VENICE APRIL 4th SURPRISE! He did note that AMD was "releasing" them today, but that they had no information on when/how many they would recieve. I'm not quite sure I believe that, but alas I hope it is available to order/ship this week as playing on this 2.8 p4/9800pro sucks when I am looking at my x850xt/pc4800... just knowing the performance upgrade that will be. Meh can't even play d3 without getting frustrated =\.

If you can't play Doom3 with such cpu+gfx something is very wrong with your pc or you are using AA and stupid resolutions...

1280x1024, medium settings, as per detected by D3. It runs fine, when nothing is happening, but as soon as a fireball heads my way.... it's like the old days of eq, trying to play on a pentium 2.

Now, I could run low settings, but I just picked up the game(stepped away from pc gaming for a while). I'd rather finish the single player in high res/settings and enjoy the eye candy.

If you want to play Doom 3 with your P4/9800 Pro system, i would suggest running it at 1024 X 768 at the High game setting. From what i have seen in the reviews, your system would probably run smooth at those settings and would look the best. Leave the AA off.

To run at 1280 X 1024 and above, you will need a new card, like the X850 XT you mentioned. That new CPU and motherboard will help too. Good luck. :)

AMD has said that they are shipping April fourth. Did it occur to anyone that maybe AMD meant that they will be shipping these cpu's out to retailers?

If by retailers you mean just places like compusa....no way. There biggest market is e-tailers. And, if you meant everyone, then sure, thats waht they meant, but you would think the stores would list them now to get orders that they will be able to ship out tomorrow. THe claims from monarch saying 2 weeks is what has me worried. If they shipped today, it wont take two weeks for them to get there.

I think that newegg's best strategy (business wise) is to list the new processors AFTER they update the site, taking down the .99 cent shipping on all items and such.

Well, 99 cent shipping on a processor isnt going to give them a lose. Also, That doesnt explain the 6800ultra extremeish availablity of the processor.

Even which could be incorrect, some e-tailors are notoriously slow at changing model number even when there are stepping changes... up to few weeks some times... I for one will just swing by PC Club occasionally that is local to me. Or educate my friend at GameVE and ask him to look for that stepping (which will be even harder as he is very busy person there... as well as Gameve usually getting mostly OEM chips since their another operation is system builder IBuypowerpc)...
Even if Venice is hot, most places won't really stock them till their current stock of CPUS do run bit dry or time for re ordering which will take some time.

But newegg posts what core they are selling. E.G., you can specify wheather you want a newcastle or Winchester 3500+. Therefore, it would only make sense for them to list Venice if they get it.

I would assume so, but no one can tell you for certain. Hopefully we will find out soon tho.
