Yup, this is with the AOPen board. RAM timings are @ 1:1 right now w/ (1) 512MB PC3200 BH5 (just bought from Mushkin...glad i got in on that :banana2: ). I got someone to do a very simple VCore mod with a 75k POT. & I use a OCZ Booster feeding the ram 2.8v right now, if you didnt know, 2.5v is default for both the DFI and AOpen. You can't adjust beyond the max rated CPU volts in the bios.

From my experience, I have had better luck adjusting the settings via clockgen (and it's just easier..worst case scenario = reboot as opposed to jumper reset...)

I think that the Pioneers in Japan (kyosen, TAM etc) pretty much qualify as 'experienced people' in this matter ;) And since they are also maxing out clearly below 200FSB at the moment its quite sure that there will be no 'magic' mod that opens up the FSB limit.
This chipset is designed for 100MHz FSB. So 180+ is pretty decent Overclock I'd say.

btw, I'm just modding the AOpen mobo and a quick look tells me that there is clearly more caps in the chipset area. It also seems that the AOpen is hitting a bit higher FSB than the DFI. Might not be a bad idea to add some extra caps for the DFI chipset? :)

Finally got my Aopen and the second 2.0GHz chip running.

Did some quickie testing with stock heatsink, fan and voltage.

SuperPI 1M

Did couple SuperPI runs at 2601MHz, so these chips aren´t that terrible overclockers :D 600MHz overclock with stock cooling and voltage is quite... err.. decent :D

Tomorrow I´ll test that another 2.0GHz chip, so maybe well see some better results then. Also tommorrow I´m going to give her some more voltage and bolt my Mach2 unit on her ;)

I read Kyosen's early work on the Aopen, and he stated the mosfets were smaller than DFI and he gave the impression that Aopen < DFI....
Or is that just me HOPING, 'cuz I just bought a DFi??

This is what I was talking about with those "experienced people" :) People who know a thing or two about hardmodding and a good understanding of electronics.

I have a limited knowledge of electronics but I'm hoping to still have good results with an unmodded DFI 855GME-MGF.
Anyone know if a OCZ booster will be mandatory to run my OCZ Plat Rev.2 considering it's supposed to run at 2.75v and Siphilon said the DFI runs 2.5v default? If this is the case then that means I will only be able to run one stick of RAM right?
I'm starting to think maybe I bit off a little more than I can chew. haha

Here's the setup I'm thinking about:
- Pentium M 725 1.6G
- DFI 855GME-MGF
- Antec Aria mATX PC Case
- 6600GT AGP

I'm going to be using this as a portable LAN cube pc. Won't be planning to do any modifications to the mobo but I was still hoping to get this thing to atleast 2.4G.
Any feedback would be great since my motherboard is on the way and if this setup is not practical then it's best to know what I'm in for.

edit: I think hoping for 2.4Ghz is a little high. Either way I'd still like to know if the rest of my expectations are reasonable.

Thought that was exactly what they were doing. Intel scrapped the P4 and was supposed to be looking back at the P3 for insight. Dothan is supposed to be the descendant of the original P3 core.

Now I'm REALLY confused. I've been reading the x-86Secret forum re: DFI 855GME, and this thing is REALLY cutting edge...
The Vmods are xtreme, some say that OCZ DDR Boosters will BURN in the DFI
Interesting, over at the x-86 forum, the "tips and tricks" that are passed out sooo freely here are hard to come by over there!

edit, read about 12 more times :D and it's not that bad. If you just remove the one resistor, you have a permanent 1.6vcore.... and the x86-secret BIOS works well....
and 3 hours of Babel Fish and Google and I think I've got the mods licked, wooooohooooooo!!!!!!!

kristos, i am not answering in behalf of macci nor with his "influence", but i can pretty much say that imo, macci is as much as an "authority" in the same level as the names that macci, himself, mentioned when it comes to modding, and OCing =)...

but in any case, guys, this is really getting good. the only thing i didn't like is the hardware modding as i am not very keen on voiding my warranty anytime soon for these babies =)......

and i agree with maccie, 160FSB on a chipset designed to run on 100FSB is "blasting" already.....and since we're talking about "lower" Ghz rating, a 1Ghz OC is not something to sneed at. Hey, a 1.5@2.5? that's over 60% OC on air!!!!!!!!! try a 60% OC on a P4 3.8 on air and see how "normally easy" that would be......

I preffer AOpen's 855mb than DFI's.
I had worried AOpen's smaller Vcore FET, but it works fine at TAM's LN2 cooling :)
V-core adjusting on AOpen's mb is perfect with my Vcore mod above, I think.
BTW this method is based on TAM's and pieta's trials.

Vcore, Vdimm mods are easy at AOpen's.
AOpen's 855mb is robust a little for higer FSB than DFI's, I felt.
AOpen's 855mb performance at SuperPI were even or a bit faster
than DFI's...I don't know DFI's latest BIOS performance, sorry.
But to be truth with you, I was most dissapointed with x86-secret's
sensational/misleading article...i.e. 25s@2.8G. It's impossible for me!
In my experience, 25s@2.9G needs that "hateful" SSE2 patch...

I didn't try it myself, but it is fact that DFI's 855 pre-production mb killed
OCZ booster. I saw burned booster at my favorite shop.
I've also heard that under 2.8V is safe, but not confirmed by myself.

...Yes, optional, so you can neglect it.
And old way(FB tweaking) is also applicable together, I believe.

In fact, I first thought off people like hell-fire, malves and catalyst.x and all those others with less fame to their name but equally (if not more? :)) skilled with the soldering iron and knowledge off electronics :)

There's no drop down menu when searching projects, so I would have to say it probably will but it will show up as unknown cpu or something of the like.

I noticed your CPU score in AM3 is 11k and then I remembered k-ohashi scored 14-15k on first benchmarks with were no more than 2500-2600MHz like yours. Comparing the CPU's it would be insane that +50MHz FSB and +150MHz CPU clock would make a diffrence of 3000 points in AM3 CPU - those points are'nt earned easy.

You are using the DFI right? could it be like kyosen said (think it was him - long thread) that the DFI was a bit disapointing in SuperPi performance compared to x86-secret results and the Aopen?.. .hmm

I just switched from TCCD to VX memory and gained an instant 10+ mhz on FSB

Ill try some more with lower multiples and higher FSB

Anyone know if the "infamous" 25s @ 2800mHz on AIR x-86 secret superPi was a PATCHED result???
Also, it sucks.... this weekend I'll have the DFI board, but NO CPU, and local stores like Fry's don't have any PentiumM's.......
