Just put my 3500+ Winchester in my computer this morning. 2.6GHz@1.55v is PrimeStable for 2 hours now. That's the longest I've had it running for now. Anyway, it's kind of strange. Can't run SuperPI even at 1M @ 2.7GHz no matter what voltage. Load temp are about 50 Degrees Celcius.

Are u running on air?? If so, I guess overheating is causing the stability issues... 50degC load temps are kinda hitting the ceiling for the winnies
Yeah, I'm running on air. It's probably the temp that keeps me from going higher. I tried lowering the voltage to 1.45v a couple of hours ago, and it's still Priming. I like this CPU more and more :D
what mobo you on there Kane? nice OC for 1.45V! the 3500+s definately seem to be going better, hope mine does too.
I ended up on 1.5v for total stability. 1.45v failed Prime95 after a couple of hours. With 1.5v it can go 12 hours +. I'm using the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum mainboard. I'm very happy with it. Can't wait to get my X800XTPE that should be in my mailbox come monday or tuesday.
Anyone tried watercooling with the Winchester?
I am now running with the stock aircooler @ 270*9,5, maks temp with prime is 58C. The voltage is 1.58v.
I plan to install my watercooling kit tomorrow so I can try some more voltage.
Is it possible to increase chipset voltage, and if so is there any point as the mem ctrl is on the cpu?
yeah there is a point. The chipset still has to process info, so if you hit a wall in FSB speed, that may give you a few more mhz.
I tried a 3200 winchester with my watercooling and had awesome results! 33c load! This was on the gigabyte "Ultra" nf3Quote:

Well, first I wanna say that this is the greatest place for overclockers I#ve ever seen. This forums've helped me very much setting up my K8N Neo2 Platinum Winchester 3200+ combo today.
My 3200+ is week 0441 and is running with the AMD stock cooler at 2500 Mhz between 1,408 and 1,424 volts at the moment. Well I hope you understand my great english :) I've attached a screenshot.

Tomorrow I'll try higher clockspeeds with my atotech mc-1 watercooler and an alphacool A64 watercooler. I think there is more speed inside this one.
But, one problem I've at the moment. My Corsair XMS3502 v1.1 256 MB sticks don't want to run with this board. Only beep beed. The two Infineons work properly. I want to use my Corsairs. What is about three sticks? Dual channel possible, or not? Ok, enough questions for the moment.

I am planning on going witha AMD 64 3000+, 1 gig of OCZ Platinum EL Rev. 2, Thermalright xp-120 with a delta fan. Do any of you have a better suggestion on the processor should i get the 3200 for the extra multiplier or is it uneccessary? Is there a better ram that i should get (around 260 price)? Will this cooler do the trick or is there a better air cooler? Thanks for the help! :banana: dance! naner , dAnce!!!

here is a "best guess" type question to noodle.
got a winnie coming in with a neo. to cool it I was gonna go with water:
MCW462-UH (modded to fit amd) or maze4, and a polarflo gpu sink. this with chevette heatercore, 2x150cfm delta 120mm. via aqua 370gph pump (1300). got all this stuff already.
so now I have the oppurtunity to trade a spare 2400+mobile xp for a 225w pelt, a meanwell clone (astec?) PSU w/ 22amps on 12v, coldplate, and another via 1300.
my thinking is if these winnies do so well 2.8-3.0 on air at lowish temps (18-20c window open air
tehn they might really enjoy it if load temps were way down there. problem is, I have no idea if I would get the load temps down that low, or if the chevette could handle that heatload, or if it is worth the hassle, like if it is worth 100mhz or so.
this is a second rig to keep at my fiances house - so I can game while I am there on the weekends, until she does not want to marry me anymore. so ease of boot/danger/noise is a factor. shoulld I jsut go water or are tec a really good idea for winnies? I suppose I could leave everyday overclock low, like 2.2ghz, so that temps would not climb too high and fans could be run a bit lower - then reboot or use clockgen to my settings for bench/games. trouble is I have no idea how much heat I will generate, and if it will necessitate full van voltage at all times. my biggest worry is heeat blowback, where the cpu gets hotter and hotter with the tec unable to keep up. or the GF unplugging the tec psu or waterpump plug by accident. or their power going out (they have crappy power grids in the apt), and when it comes back on, the tec stays powered w/ pump and some fans, and everything freezes over good, then shorts on next reboot when it melts.
totally unsure what to do here. hope im not crapping the thread, jsut had not heard much about the possible effects of tec on this cpu, or even water for that matter. jsut high end air and phase that everyone is intererested in?

First off don't get a delta, the xp coolers just don't benefit that much from having a turbine in your system(I've tried 130CFM vs. 60 CFM with 1-2 degree difference) what good is your computer if you can't hear your speakers ;). Also, if you are getting a neo2 prepare to have some fit issues with that xp-120. If you are on a budget, you might consider getting an XP-90 and a gig of PQI Turbo or PDP XBLk. With the money you saved there spring for the 3500 winnie for the higher multis and (at least to me) seemingly more consistent overclocking.

Well it looks like I have a dud Winchester 3200+ here. 2400 MHz is all it will do. This is with a hyper 6 and at 1.67 Volts.
This one is 0434TPMW, ordered from Monarch. I am glad I got it to run with BH-5 @ 240 FSB 1:1 but I wish for more clockspeed.
Just the luck of the draw I guess...
Might try another one from a different store later on.
strange thing with the winnies i can cold boot at 10X260.

what kind of cooling are you using? Looks like a heavy freezer.
I hope if my new waterblock arrives 3 Gigs are possible for me too. My MSI runs with 301 MHz and 1:1 RAM (2.5-4-4-9) * 8 or 258 *10 with stock voltage without problems. It would be perfect to run 301*10. If the block arrives on Monday I'll post how many Mhz the system reaches. Is there somebody around who reached 3 Gigs with watercoolling?

I'm still fiddling a lot here and very annoyed I can't get my asus star ice to fit this board! I'm stuck on the stock cooler and don't want to push too many volts through it atm. However, the initial results are good! Now all I need is a damned hsf. I've only been testing with the 137b bios so far.

Looking to grab a 3500+ for myself ... whats your stepping?? Great OC considering its on stock HSF (the whiny AMD fan is the problem if u ask me :P)

Not yet, but I promise as soon as I get myself and XP90/120 fitted to this sucker I'll check the stepping on it then and post back. Will likely be mid-next week. The only thing I did to the board when I got it was remove the pigeon dropping under the NB hsf and replace it with a nice layer of AS5. That one I posted above failed prime after a few hours this morning :(
A bit more voltage/cooling should see it stable considering prime ran for a good few hours before it crapped out on me. Have managed 2.593Ghz stable so far. All I can say on the chip for now is it was a boxed retail version :p
Really haven't had enough time to play!
Got some time to clock mine but only with the stock heatsink and fan.
