Step it up - 1000 Thread Count Down!

This is crazy !! You guys are an incredibly dedicated bunch, WOW!!

It would seem your not running these machines at your home if you have several hundred, 100's of threads and are probably using other peoples computers to add to your counts?

I know I may get some flack for this but how about starting a thread for people that use there home machines, only? Then us people with home rigs that are trying to contribute to the Extreme Systems point count won't feel so deflated. It would also be nice to see what people are contributing with their personal hardware.
Honestly my first thought when reading this thread was, why bother being part of Extreme's team when I only have 8 cores total in the house, I'll never be able to compete as I don't have a team of my own that is crunching for me.

I like to look at it not as a competition but using my unused CPU cycles for good....

As far as I know most of the machines on the XS team reside in a members home, they just take it to to an xtreme level *looks at forum title* ;P

And as Movieman or Sierra bound would say, every contirbution count even if its just a lappy that you are putting on wcg or 10 980x rig, you still are a cruncher and get respect from everyone in the team because you are doing something for the humankind like the others member and that is something that not a lot of people think about doing. Its like a big company even the janitary is important even if his job is small he is still very important nonetheless because if your place is dirty no one will want to work in a dirty place or come eat or buy stuff at a dirty place.

Just because some people are fortunate enough to have multiple computers at home and some are not is not a reason to not contribute. If everyone with one or two machines felt that way we wouldn't be doing 1/4 of what we are doing, and yes all of mine are at my home except 5 of mine my dad lets me put at the office to help out with my power bill. Its called a team for a reason...

Just wanted to say, yes everything you can contribute is appreciated, and it does make a difference. I originally started almost 2 years ago... Has it really been that long?... with only a single, single core machine. Soon after got a second, but on these two machines I crunched my first million. Guys passed me so fast it wasn't even funny, but that's all I had, so that's what I did. After a while I got my first multi core system. A quad core phenom. Until last summer that was it. Two singles and a quad. Slowly got permission to add system after system, until I am here. Took me two years to slowly accumulate threads, but as i never decomission computers (simply pass them on to people who don't have computers. Friends and friends siblings mostly), it adds up.

But every system under my name I have regular access to and maintain on a regular basis. I only personally OWN 2, but friends and neighbors are more than willing to help, especially if they get free computer service out of it. :up:

But I also always offer to create them their own account, it only goes on mine if they don't want to deal with it or look at it ever...

Sorry, I'll stop my rant now, but the point is you are important. We can't all be super crunchers, as much as I'd love to I know there is no way i can right now in my life, i just do what I can. :cool:

Your missing my point. I think it is AWESOME that the members here and people elsewhere are contributing what they can to help create solutions to issues in our society. THANK YOU to everyone !!!

All I was trying to get across was it would be nice to have a home crunchers;only thread with stats.
I'm going to crunch whatever I can to help Extreme meet it's target and for the community at large.
And don't get me wrong I have a lot of respect for those of you that spend their energy, time, etc. getting other machines up and crunching for the cause regardless of who gets the points. You guys REALLY are awesome!

I don't think you realize how many of us are running our home machines, how many of us have quad cores or more core per CPU, not to mention they are more then likely OC'ed, as well as having more then one PC.

I know for me, I usually run two systems, one for gaming, one for work/net etc. and at least one is running 24/7. None the less they are my home machines. Now I realize this is above average for the every day Joe, but for a good portion of us, we are not the average Joe, though many of us would probably consider ourselves as such.

Just that what started with a single core cpu............"Tribbled" to use a Star Trek reference.

Lately I have been running just my main work PC since I had to cut back on the bills, and many of us have had to cut back on our production and or traded up to I7chips or multi cpu/core boards/CPUs.

The WCG section or any of the folding/crunching sections are for the "average Joe" of XS. Just happens that many/some of us, try for that "Xtreme" in our own ways since we don't have the money/hardware to go for xtreme OCs or we don't want to lose the hardware.

Yes we have our big guns (Dave's Beast) or 123bob or many others. However if you ask around, you will see that there are quite a few that have just one PC, maybe not a quad core even but still crunch/fold.

The "competition" you see among members is just for shiz and giggles. To push others a little harder but we all have our limits with money, time hardware and no one will look down on you for having to little PPD.

You do what you can with what you have. Every point/project counts.

Retro, as an example of "home" machines ... I'm running: Opteron 170, Opteron 185, a dual CPU Sossaman, Athlon XP 3000+ and a XP 2600+ with a XP 2400+ waiting for it to get cold enough to use as a heater. With everything running I have 3 machines running "headless", two of them I administer via console login (ssh, no desktop) the other has a desktop, so I remote into that if need be. (that one I keep full functional in case my Mum decides she wants to "get digital" at some point.)

and if you think that's a lot of machines ... it ain't! Not around here anyway. I can't even SEE the pie, let alone get a taste!

Running on 2 of my laptops, my co-workers laptop and my netbook. Need to have ample ventilation for cooling. Or just have a really low ambient room temperature.
