If a game is worth it, buy it. I bought Operation Fashpoint 2, Arma, and was planning on picking up MW2 but     that. I don't see how a company can sustain by ignoring any part of their fan base. Yes PC gamers might be a minority but we can put money in their pockets. I can think of quite a few underdeveloped titles that I would rather pirate than throw money at because of their half ass development and lack of support for the pc platform, but at the end of the day MOST PC gamers will happily give 50-60 bucks for a well made game that caters to our entertainment needs. Add me to the list of cancelled preorder and pirating upon release. :soap:
Incredible. Not a lot else to say about it.
I can see the board meeting:
"We can combat piracy by having authenticated servers, the more control we have the easier it will be to monitor, because we all know every download is a lost sale..."
LOL!
The people who pirate MW, are the people who play the singleplayer and only dl it because they can, they wouldn't buy it in the first place...Its a pain to play cod4 with a cracked copy, a real pain, and only on hacked servers full of cheats, so the user experience is brutal, most people that play multiplayer own the game.
As for the lock down on mods/ customization, they obviously looked at the wealth of mods and custom maps out there, and went... what if we could lock out the modders and charge for it? Maybe Xbox players are ok with that because they don't know any different, but PC.. nope.. mods made for passion, versus profit are always better.
And in the podcast and on IW forums, consoler's seem to not have a concept of what community means... having a regular server to go to, and play with your friends.. not a friendslist.. you dont have time or place to get to know people, how they play etc... because your always being bounced into a different server.. and you dont get to know people within one match or round enough to add them to friends lists.. this is why console games are empty on multiplayer , because there is a huge lack of teamwork and trust of playing with the same group of guys...
I think they should have spent some money and actually hired a couple social psychologists to analyze their format change, and they would have forseen this backlash
As it sits... COD is dead, with this format, I dont buy games for the singleplayer... I buy them for the multiplayer, and i think i m not alone in this as a PC gamer..
We just need CS 2 !! lol. This game had so much promise too.
Someone tell me what was their motive behind not having dedicated servers?
damn 30,000 people! the news is only a day old. this looks bad for IW. i hope it does hurt their reputation and sales. they can sit back and be lazy or throw away the pc community like its not important. all of the other publishers are more than willing to take the 10 million plus sales of the cod series. its great to see the pc community getting together and starting boycotts. it actually works.
This is all fine and dandy, but you must realize a petition is a passive community response and it will be dismissed by IW. We can go a step further and actively impact IW's bottom line.
Not only has my purchase been precluded, but as soon as it's available I will download a fully cracked pirated version of the game and play the single player for free.
Then, I'll make a lot of copies and hand them out for free to all my friends. At some point I may start charging $1 for the copies, thereby capitalizing off Infinity Ward's unlicensed intellectual property.
In no way do I support piracy, and I have purchased all the games I own. However, when companies start getting :banana::banana::banana:y and make douche decisions like this, the community must swiftly react in force and make it known that this will not be tolerated.
I am 33 years old and I've never been so excited for a game release as I WAS for MW2. I feel so foolish now watching the game previews and emailing all new info to friends. Only to be kicked in the head by IW.
WTF? I was so excited for MW2 and now I see this? Really? Multiplayer is the only reason I play the cod games. I've played through cod4's single player once or twice, but aside from that it's been multiplayer. I've had cod5 since launch and haven't played a single player game, only multiplayer... This is a :banana::banana::banana: slap to the face. I'm not going to buy this.
Let's not kid ourselves. On that list of 30,000 people, I wouldn't doubt >90% of those who were going to buy it in the first place still do.
Well im NOT buying, whats the point buying a game what isnt any good online???
Dont get me wrong, ill buy good games even without a (good) multiplayer (GTA, AC, BioShock) but i will not accept this from COD.
I was already disappointed with WAW and now with MW2 it will be even worse.
In all truth, I expect about 75% to still buy it if they're legit sigs.
I know I'm not, but still. Even considering 75% still buy it, 25% of 20 million profits (duke nukems post http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=134) would put it at about 5 million which is more than they could EVER make with dlc sales on the pc.
Wow infinity ward just wants to shoot themselves in the foot really.
My point is more that people need to do what you're going to do instead of worrying about the petition. Nobody ever gives them any attention. Write an actual letter--don't email. A physical piece of paper explaining your thoughts without being disrespectful would do much more if it started coming from numerous people. Emails are cheap and angry rants are cheaper. Petitions aren't even worth clicking on the URL. Do something physical (not buy the game [don't just say you won't], letter, etc) to express your discontent. If it actually hurts them, it isn't like they can't modify how servers work to allow traditional DS at some point.
Personally, I'll deal with it and will be buying the game.
I expect those that signed the boycott don't really buy the game, so what's the point with signing a boycott anyway?
I am loyal to my word, aren't you with yours?
You've not accounted for the fact that the game will not be 60 USD in every country. I can almost guarantee that it will be 70-80 USD in Australia, which means if there are Aussies in that petition they are losing alot more.
At least I wasn't excited about this game, so I don't feel nearly as let down as others. I had planned to buy it eventually, but I never followed the trailers and stuff.
Personally I never liked the Pro Mod that was made for competition. I always thought that the game should be played the way it was made, not modded to all hell and to the point where you forgot whether you were playing MW or Counter Strike. So I personally like that they're not allowing mods. BUT, I do not like not having dedicated servers, most of the time you're playing on the servers with the lowest pings or servers that all your buddies are playing on. Not having the ability to jump in and out of servers and being more "console" like blows. Not being able to play on custom maps also sucks, they're are some really talented guys out there that have made some incredible maps, why would IW take this away from the PC gamers, unless they're greedy :banana::banana::banana:s. I'm still debating whether to buy it or not now, because everything that I hoped it to be has been cut in half...
Mods were there to balance an unbalanced playing field.
Mainly there to limit classes, so you can't have a team of 5 snipers / 5 Spec Ops.
IMO, They should adopt a strategy such as Battlefield 2, to prevent piracy, yet still include the dedicated servers that we all love.
I'll still buy the game, should be fun regardless. =)

and lets not forget where the most popular map on that titale came from.
there was also a massive warhammer mod for BF2 which stopped production after it was almost done due to so much of the BF2 community moving to 2142.
There was much more, the game modded heavily bro.
