Tray to Increase Vcore...

[QUOTE=rge;3926432]Realtemp and Coretemp read same and accurate. Everest only reads cores 0 and 1, then duplicates readings for core 2 and 3 (thread/core confusion by Everest). Hardware monitor is out to lunch.
Justin, nice OC and temps, what are your ambients and can you run everest (computer/sensor) and see watts at load.
I am testing mine on different settings/different fans, ie new gentle typhoons 1850 versus scythe 1600, and trying to get an idea of watts vs temps, etc. Your 3 rads will improve your temps 4C over mine by bringing the 6.7C delta down to ~2C...but curious if you have very low ambients or very low watts cpu or both.
Sorry about off topic post...but will give an idea of temps to expect +/- cpu and setup variability. I cut hole back of my desk exact size of computer to expel hot air to back and prevent hot air from becoming intake air, which decreases my 13 hr prime load temps by few C by preventing local ambients from increasing...which then means at about 20 mins you are near max temps in prime...and any rise after 20 mins is from failure to prevent local ambients from rising...like my 1C rise.
This is in deg C with 4.4ghz, 1.34 vcore, 1.34 qpi/vtt, and loads at 170-185W, max core temps 76C. At 4.6 and 1.4v, temps are much higher, will run that later, this is with PA 120.3, 6 fans scythe 1550 rpms (Scythe s flex F 1600 maxed on controller, always little lower on controller). air intake measure directly over all 3 fans, as air out, then avg.
The 41C delta from water temp to Core temp is only affected by block/tim1,2/cpu diff etc, not by rad which just controls air/water delta.
Push pull design on that rad with 6 fans rge???
Yep, with shroud on push side, you can kind of see my set up in my sig, clicking on lian li..
I need lower ambients, not only do you get better temps, but it pulls lower watts. Dropping ambients ~10C will get you 11-12C lower load, 10C lower directly and another 1-2C because cpu uses power more efficiently ie ~10% less power at 10C lower temps, confirmed with everest watts and k/w meter....mine showing drop 12C nets ~13-14C lower load temps.
I think Justin has ~18-21C ambients with 3 rads. I can duplicate his temps in post 22 with his mhz/vcore with ~14-15C ambients and 1 rad.
Here is 4.55 ghz 1.42vcore, 1.42qpi, 26-27C ambients, 10 mins prime load

Here is 4.55 ghz 1.42vcore, 1.42qpi 14-15C ambients, 10 mins of exact same prime load

Need some help here. Trying to OC.
Right now im at 142 BCLK with turbo mode on @ about 2.9xx some odd ghz.
Vcore is at 1.29375 (third option higher from stock)
Ram voltage is at 1.675 with Ram at 1708mhz right now.
My testing is pretty much just firing up Crysis or ArmA II benchmark. If it passes multiple times its good by me. Don't really care for running Pi and all that stuff.
So when I raise the BCLK to 143 it auto resets the computer during Crysis. Its fine at desktop and doing normal tasks though.
Should I up the Vcore more and the DIMM voltage? Obviously this chip can OC much more. Temps are perfect. right now with BCLK @ 142 idle at 25-29c and load in the 40's (While playing Crysis!) We keep our AC on a lot lol, so its cool in the house too.
Also should I keep the QPI frequency setting on Auto? Or put it at the 6.4 selection??
Some more specs - I have Dummy OC off, XMP (Xtreme memory profiles) off (Manually set the memory to its factory 1600mhz when I put them in)
Oh and rig is in my siggy. Mobo has most up to date BIOS wich is a rock solid version.
edit: oh and here is this if it helps. (In Bios the CPU mhz shows 3010Mhz and bus speed at 143)

Ok I upped the PCI-E frequency to 105 and now its stable at 143 BCLK.
But still some tips would be much appreciated!!
Your vcore is probably already higher than needed. You are using 12x multi for ram, so you are probably running into an uncore problem or ram problem.
Someone with classified board would be more help on listed qpi values and can chime in...but set it on lowest setting and leave it there.
mem divider set it on 8, uncore on 16, and put dram volts back on 1.65 or 1.66. And trying to use 12 gb ram, it will be more difficult.
Then leave vcore 1.29x and set qpi/vtt or whatever classified board call it to 1.35v. Then you can probably set your bclk up to 180 or so and start at around 3.8.
And I would drop pcie back to 100.
You might want to ask for help in classified evga thread...terminology/etc little different on my gb board.
Thanks man! I'll post that in the Evga x58 thread too.
ok, so I dont see anything about mem divider in my BIOS, uncore setting is a Mhz selection, nothing about "16"
I see the QPi voltage setting (I think it was called QPi uncore voltage" already cant remember lol) not sure if its the same thing though as the terminology could be losing some things in translation from your board to mine.
Why the hell are the forums so damn slow today :( When I actually have free time to do this shyt.
Taken me about 2 weeks to get here, but here she is. Enjoy

Looks good on the settings bro but your temps look like they're getting kind of high. I bet you'd break 95C in LinX. Mid 80's is where my temps are hitting under load in LinX with my Xeon W3520 at 4.1Ghz. I'm planning to lap my TRUE and get some higher CFM fans to hopefully drop temps some. These i7's do get hot if you're not on watercooling or lucky enough to get one that runs 4.2Ghz at real low voltage.

Very true and thank you sir. I am hoping to pickup the Noctua or something along those lines here soon to get the temps a little more under control. I actually got it up to 4075 right now but she will not go any higher and I am not giving it anymore voltage. :explode2:
Edit - I should also say nice work on your Xeon.
OK, my initial Overclock, just put this setup together this week. My goal was just to get 4ghz, and from there tweak voltages/mem/vcard. (I like round numbers, what can I say).
Oddity though with this board. Seems whatever bclk I set in the bios, it shows up as .5 lower. So when I set my bclk to 200, I was showing in windows as 199.5 (3990mhz instead of 4000). So I set it as 201, hence why I'm teetering around 4010. Anyone seen this before?

Calling billdavis time to update the thread...
my oc was pritty warm to but of course im, not running 4ghz tho
I just finished my i7 rig and finaly got around doing some tuning. Not the fastest but works for me. During the test my multiplier fluctuated between 20 and 21. BTW I started with Corsair Dominator GTs ram but they died soon after I started testing.

What is with people thinking 4.5ghz is not fast? Your lucky you even got there, or can achieve that with these chips.
scooby, that was turbo kicking in once you stopped prime. Nice oc though on air with HT.
Thanks guys, and yes I fell very fortunate to have this chip. I'm pretty sure I can take this further but I'll wait till my GT's come in from RMA. In the mean time it's gaming bliss.:D
