Bottom line: A stable system is one that never crashes; if this is the case, which it is, then it doesn't matter if I know an overclock will fail prime95, but it matters to me if it should fail when I turn it on and start surfing the net, if that's all I do all day 24/7, 365. AS LONG AS THE SYSTEM DOES NOT CRASH FOR WHAT I USE IT FOR, IT IS STABLE FOR ME. Some of you guys need to know why people started using certain programs for testing 'stability' of their systems. I could always intentionally crash my system even if it passed 100 years of prime. The stability programs you guys seem to be worshipping are not the be all and the end all in benchmarking for stability.

Another 2 weeks they'll be at all the Microcenters for $229.99.

And 3 weeks after that the 950s can be bought for $540.

The 950 may be the right one. All Mobos can Max out the i7 920 D0 at 4.4-4.6 GHz.

Therefore a 950 can easily do 215x23 on water or with Turbo enabled over 5GHz easily.

expect the i7 975 to do 5.2GHz easily.

I asked ReverendMaynard what he meant by "stability" (of course he choose not to respond with an answer). Some people seem to think that if they can pass a so-called "stability test" then there system is 'stable', which THEY are defining as 'can run any piece of software ever written or ever will be written, without error'. This idea is pure hogwash. I've seen examples of a computer passing 'x' hours of prime and linpack, then crashing the next day when they launch their email tool. Or run 50 passes of IBT and then fail under the stress of a Finite Element Analysis program. My sister's computer has never crashed in the 4 years she's had it, so it's stable even though she has never loaded the CPU beyond 10%.

There is literally only one "stability guarantee", and it has nothing to do with software. Intel guarantees your i7 920 will be stable at
2.67 Ghz, and if it isn't, they'll replece it.

Thanks for reporting! Is it possible for you to get max oc tests result with HT on and OFF on air?

Also what is the batch number?

IMO, this is too optismic. I see the max o/c with HT on is about 4.3-4.4g for 950 (stress stable). With HT OFF, 4-4-4.5g. So same with 920,.

Exactly; his 'stable' 4GHZ+ will never pass any test in Intel's labs. He lives in USA, and busts his window open when he primes. Even his location is a variable in determining his so called 'stable overclock' how then does he rule out what he uses his computer for? Beats me.

My w3520 easily ran at 222x20. It could've done 230-233x20 if the Biostar people made a Bios to Support the CPU.

It did do SPi 1M in 8.66s at 222x22.

All D0 i7 920s can do 4.5GHz easily.

4.5g with HT on and LinX stable? I am not saying 920 or 950 can't do 4.5g, I am saying with HT on and LinX, it can not do. With HToff, my c0/c1 920 can do it on air.

I never care is a CPU Frequency is Prime Stable, LinPak stable or any other CPU torture test stable. Those applications mean absolutely nothing to me in their quest to find a Stable OverClock

As long as it can run the 3DMar06 and Vantage CPU benchmark and SuperPi 32M is all I need it to do.

The screen shot above is at 220x20 with HT enabled. But, It benchmarked everything at 222x20. It could've gone much higher but most boards do not support, (They will not boot or Freeze) with a BClk above 222.

It even did SuperPi at 222x22.

That's why I sold all of my W3520s and trying to sell this BIOstar Mobo.

Buying a Classified and either a 950 or 975 when they come out on 5/31/09.

I just bought this Biostar and some W3520s to see if I could beat my WR on the Chess Test.

Wow, the stability arguement has made it in here. Seriously? Seriously? The only time you would need to worry that someone else considered your system stable would be if you were trying to set an overclocking record that involved stability. The reality is exactly what Zucker2k stated, if it is stable to me then it is stable, enough said.

FYI, the Ebay seller that had the DO's for $300 - $42 live cash back, he will have more next week. The guy is very popular on overclock.net and I have not seen a negative comment on him. At $257 it is only about $10 (after tax) more than the best price which is Microcenter. So if you want one and cannot find one at your favorite shop try here:

I asked Pao yesterday when he will have the 975s and 950s. He expects them the ennd of May. He said he would list them on eBay at 999 and 540 respectively.

an i7 950 with a 23x multi and a 24x Turbo at $540 including shipping is a Fantastic Price. And if you can get Cash Back on top of that, thats ......... Fantastic
