Very nice....good thing I didnt press the buy button on that 965 yet...
Congrats again waiting for the vid posting.
Quad SLI counting down. Nehalem-EP counting down. Onwards to 50K+ for the next level of performance.

Ill see what the holdup is, hours of video so he should be able to rip out a couple of spots where we hit. He should find the point of the matching 27k
Sweet Soul Sister... And God said "let there be light", and suddenly there it was...
Good, So, we showed that we can easily (when it is fugger and Mike) get the top score on a 5 years old Benchmark: 3dMark 05 ...
On the benchmark that matters, the last generation, there is only Core i7 in the 1st page, then, it is Core 2 for a long long list ...
http://www.futuremark.com/community/...e_performance/
This little competition on 3DMark05 got a lot of media coverage, but the truth is that we played a little, that was nice, but Phenom is light years away on all the last generation benchmarks ... It is able to compete with Liquide Helium, when the benchmark is single threaded, and only using one Core Overclocked ... on 05 ...
never the less, that was fun to see what is required to get close :)
But as long as Phenom does not show around 40000 on Vantage, I don 't think any other marketing tricks will wake me up, and defocus me from my toys ... :) :) :)
Take it easy! Competition is fun!

You may very well be the worst spokesperson for a company to grace this site Drwho. Learn how to be humble and enjoy your job while you have it.
FUGGER, sorry for going OT but that was due. Nice showing on the D0 man, I can't wait to see the lower end cpu's get the treatment.
Don't misunderstand me guys, I am happy to be here and have fun, but it is very clear that this little game created a little mis understanding, Core i7 is alone in its class on all the benchmarks, and it should not be forgotten.
Of course, a set of Fan Boys will come after me, as usual, I don't really feel the pain about this anymore, What matters is to be honnest with yourself, and with the people who really care of the truth.
To the ones that matter there was never any doubt DrWho? There are people who care. Just thought you'd like to know that. :)
Interesting..or from another perspective;
Let's say we all agree that there will always be an 'elite" group for lack of a better word of people that have access to things that haven't reached retail yet.
This is the case in every sport or hobby.
Someone with more funds or connections than the norm.
Does this make their accomplishments any lesser than anyone elses? Not in my opinion as long as they show truthfully what they are using.
In this case had Charles and Mike said they did these numbers with an i7-965 then I think people would have had a legitimate reason to complain but they didn't.
They posted pure truth and in the long run that is all that matters. Records will be set and they will fall but as long as it's done truthfully that is all that matters.
So thats the 'top tier" per se.
Lets take what runmc did the other day with a $240.00 i7-920 bought off the shelf at microcenter.. 5000+mhz with his cheapo chip..
Then look at what Andre Yang has accomplished in the last few months. All out of his pocket from my understanding.
Just hard work done by those people and no factory support at all.
Now I don't get into the high end of this hobby but i do read and enjoy what these people do.
I have the same amount of respect for Andre and Ron that I do for Charles and Mike..
No difference at all as regardless of the hardware used what you see is the talent and skills of these people.
I felt the same way when watching Macci,Sampsa and SF3D at the Xs party in Las Vegas..
When it's viewed from this perspective their is no issue or problem but it is all in how you see it.
I prefer to look for the good vs the bad so maybe that explains my perspective.
I understand and please accept my apology if I offended you.
My purpose was to show that it was how one looked at things that decided how it was seen.
yes, times change and so has XS in some respects.
Some people have left but in time others will take their place. With your knowledge you could be one of those that teach.
When I first came here the person who grabbed my attention was George(hipro5)
What a talented teacher he is.
I read his threads like a thirsty man who's found water.
I'm back to look for the positive and be part of it.
You have the skills and knowledge to be that person.
not sure what all the fuss is about... all this is just a preview of technology to come
i'm more interested in whether intel's next stepping would have a more consistent memory controller between cpus ?
I think Cadaveca wants a D0 Ci7 so he can break a few world records, that's not much to ask? Also, why is it there are separate WRs for AMD on hwbot? It's all PC? I posed this question and yet to get a good answer; this thread may be it. Sorry for OT.
OK here is where I strongly disagree in regards to i7. i7 is MUCH more. My god man where have you been? Never have we seen scores like this...not ever. These things at 4.0GHz get higher scores than a QX at over 5GHz. It's right there in the benchmarks section. The memory bandwidth on this thing is beyond belief. It is so far out there nothing is even close. If you graphed it against all others the bar length would look rediculous in comparison.
The IMC being implemented was a huge success for Intel. They rolled this thing out along with a brand new Chipset to run it without any issues. I was a first adopter and have not had to RMA anything. It was a perfect release.
We started to see WR class performance just before release, and at release records started falling immediately. In nearly every benchmark and real world application this thing has shined. I have some software here for doing flow modelling that was crippled before by past technology, but this i7? It's like it's not even working to run it.
Core i7 not offering anything? I can't think of anything that is has not offered. Nothing will compare to one of these...not even close.
Cadaveca, its called IPC and that is why the clock speeds go down and performance goes up. Instructions Per Cycle.
Francois is pointing out you need less cooling on the new i7 to go far, these chips are built that way.
My spot on 05 can be dethroned with a i7 940 on pro-chilled watercooling and any pair of X2 without GPU clocks. I didnt set the bar to rediculas, just high enough with valid drivers to make a point. I could have done on my other i7 965 but this showing was unique to what I have done for the past few years.
Gautam do me a favor and whack my score with your chip please.
Good evening, or morning as it is here.
I generally use the dual socket systems and i was looking a couple weeks ago where the upcoming gainstown( dual socket Nehalem) system is showing literally double what the current harpertown(yorkfield) system does in terms of computational power.
From those tests a 8 core gainstown at 2930 doubled what the 8 core Harpertown system at 3333 did.
I call that a huge step forward.
No, it's not gaming, but not all of us buy based just on gaming.
I will bet you though that if I toss a couple top vid cards in my dual X5470 that it would make a decent gamer..:D
Unfortunately the pricing gap between the Nehalem Xeon CPU series and the Core i7 at same clock speeds will seriously hinder the value of the upcoming Gainstowns if leaked pricelists are to believed (i940=~$570 vs. X5570=~$1300).
On the positive side the Thurley platform should provide better power efficiency and compatibility with the Core i7 i.e. using the same HSF, RAM, SouthBridge. Although RAM will probably have to be buffered and registered but the cost is incremental and heat dissipation should be much less than the current FBDIMMs used by the DPs now.
Perhaps a Skulltrail Extreme :D
