Thats perfect, then I can use it as a weapon to beat The Collective out of the daily pie race.

Even better for pie thumpings then.

It's just below 60 now.. And I think Ima go look for some wool socks.
Damn, those temps you guys got make me feel glad I kept my phase unit. If it can handle the 65nm Q6600, it sure can do with Nehalem. Unless I get over 300W  :D
Just the slightest tinge of overclock..
http://www.isarapix.org/pix96/1227392679.png
Nope, guess not.
Holy crap, lol. Get at least some decent thermal grease under that HSF.. that's horrible
It will, but I think a simple water cooling system will handle all your needs.
look at it this way;At the same speed the nehalem runs app 10C hotter than the Q6600 fromk what I see at least on WCG.
Since they are in the same house(envirionment) this is a fair comparision:
My Q6600 at 3600 runs at 51C at 100% load
The Nehalem just 30 ft away on the same floor in the same temps(maybe 1-2F higher as it's in the office and thats a smaller room with just one door, runs at 61C at 3733mhz
A little faster but the 10C difference is a damned close one to use for comparision.
Also usefull is that even when I benched it at 4226mhz the temps never went over 65C so I think with water 4000 for 24/7 work at a temp in the 50's is very doable.
To Bowman:
I don't know what your using for cooling but those temps would scare me.
I'm using Diamond 7 TIM with a TRUE and a 87CFM 120x38 fan
Yeah well, I'm shooting for 4,8-5Ghz 24/7 WCG stable on a 965EE. Something you probably can't do on water.
10C higher temp is fine with me, approx. Coretemps of my Q6600 are around -15 loaded, so -5 is fine with me.
Sadly the sensors don't work below a certain value, so my readout stays the same whether it's idle or load
You won't get that on the nehalem.
4000 is doable, maybe 4400 under phase for 24/7 work but not 5GHz..
There just isn't the difference between water and phase that we saw with the Yorkfields..Do some reading and you'll see what I mean.
save that setup for a yorkie and do the Nehalem on water..;)
I'm using the stock heatsink with the silly little patch of stock paste that comes slapped on it.
No, I can't be bothered doing anything about it until that damn TRUE adapter finally arrives in stock somewhere.. Christ, the socket dimensions and the need for one has been known since, what, October last year? Why couldn't they have ordered a supply awaiting the release? Oh no, gotta wait half a month after the release.. Makes sense..
You're not telling me 4,4 will be max here, are you?!
That means I'd have to get to 4,5Ghz at the very least :p: This is so on Dave.. :D
If I can find the, uhm, "right" 965EE and a DFI X58, that is -.-
bowman, could you post a screeny of the memory tab of cpu-z and which memory are you using?
thx

Crucial DDR3 2GB 1066MHz sticks, three of them - cheapest 2GB DDR3 sticks I could find.
This bitter, cold, forgotten place that someone accidentally called Norway - however, souls who knew better put up a more proper sign. :ROTF:
Under 70, you think so? It's been running at 85 for a day or two now.. Oh well.
LOL I took a picture of that exact sign when I was in Norway last year :D
Yeah I'm in, I liked Stavanger!
Promise me we don't have to go to a Nachspiel tho, I wanna live to tell about my vacations :p:
never been to Norway.
Would you beleive that one of the members offerred me an all expense paid trip to Denmark but I had to pass.
Would love to see that area someday..
And I won't even get started on the women..
Dear Lord you guys stole all the beautiful ones and hid them up there!
i7-920 and GA-EX58-UD5 is lying here without ram :(
But by thursday it should be running WCG :D
