Oh be quiet or the only thing you'll find in your house that shoots is a bb gun..

I have made four 8-hour thermal cycles with Arctic Cooling MX2 (about 3 months old), then three 8-hour cycles with ICD7. One cycle was 4 hours of 100% loaded WCG, then 4 hours of idling.
Cooler used: Thermalright Ultra-120 (non-Extreme) with 0.8mm plastic washer under the mounting bracket and all screws turned to max.
Fan setup: Fander 120mm 1200rpm + Noiseblocker 120mm 1200rpm in push-pull setup
Temps were measured with RealTemp ver. 2.24 (same readings as CoreTemp 0.97.1 but with Tjunction 5° C lower); ambient temps were measured with Master M890C+ digital multimeter. Several readings were taken in 10-second intervals and results were averaged:
http://www.profide.eu/files/icd7res1.png
red columns are measured temps and green columns is delta between core and ambient air temperature.
Average load-ambient delta:
AC MX-2 #### ICD7
35.73° C #### 29.28° C
6.45° C lower with ICD7
Average idle-ambient delta:
AC MX-2 #### ICD7
16.24° C #### 10.69° C
5.55° C lower with ICD7
That's an amazing drop, over 6° C in load and over 5° C in idle!
EDIT: Application method used was pea sized blob in the center:

I got the pressure film today, Pretty nifty stuff I can now calibrate my binder clips on the glass slides for my accelerated testing :)
I may get some samples out to you guys by the end of the week, I am a little tied up with something that may run till friday, it may open up if it does They go out Friday, if not early next week.
Once I get my P35-DS3L and Q6600 in on Friday I will post my results.
I will have the last of the systems I was definitely going to test tested in about 10 mins. Made a spreadsheet type thingy in OO.O. Will convert it to MS format I guess.
Edit: attached
Damn this is some good gak!
A friend of mine is getting me some, the listed companies want all my base for shipping to Auz. :(
Has anyone used this method of application on their quads?
I'm.....OK now....couple of seesions with Dr SiG and I'm good. Thanks for asking... :ROTF:
got my package from petra's today, just got home a lil bit ago from workin on my senior project and i'm beat, i'll throw on the shin etsu x23-7783 (since tasty said he doesnt have much comparison with shin etsu) tomorrow and let that go for a few days then i'll throw on the IC D7
as an update on my redo of AS5 using the pea method
original numbers posted on 4-8-08
WCG 100% load temps with ambient of 19C
core 1: 29-30C
core 2: 36-38C
currently (4-10-08)
WCG 100% load temps with ambient of 25C (its gotten hot in here)
core 1: 35
core 2: 40
Ambient is up six degrees but the core temps are up 4-5 at worst AND seem closer.
yep, it was still AS5 but still a nice drop and hopefully IC D7 can do better when i get around to applying it
as promised, I've got my results, quite impressive if you ask me
Rig:
Q6600 over clocked to 3.2 GHz, G0 stepping
V-Core reported from CPU-Z: 1.39V
Motherboard EVGA 680i
Ambient Temp: approximately 25c +/- 2c
Testing and mesuring time between tims about 10-15 mins
Original TIM Arctic Silver 5, approximately 6-8 months old. When I removed my water block the cover of the TIM was the whole heat sink with a drop a little bigger than a grain of rice
----Idle------------Load
Core 0: 37 c--------48 c
Core 1: 37 c--------50 c
Core 2: 31 c--------44 c
Core 3: 32 c--------45 c
ICD7 TIM, fresh, pea size drop
----Idle------------Load
Core 0: 37 c--------45 c
Core 1: 37 c--------47 c
Core 2: 31 c--------40 c
Core 3: 32 c--------43 c
I hope this helps

I applied the Shin Etsu x23.
AS5 initial data as posted 4-8-08
pea spreading - cure time of 8hrs no thermal cycling - ambient of 19C
idle temps:
core 1: 23C
core 2: 29C
WCG 100% load temps
core 1: 29-30C
core 2: 36-38C
heres how it looked when i took the heatsink off

Shin Etsu blob
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...e/DSCF3049.jpg
Shin Etsu X23 - ambient of 22C
idle temps: taken 10 minutes after startup
core 1: 24C
core 2: 30C
WCG 100% load - after 20 minutes
core 1: 33-35C
core 2: 38-40C
i'll update this later tonight to show after 8 or so hours to be more comparable to the AS5 initial values. the Shin Etsu is definatly thicker stuff and seems like it has no oils in it so i expect it to take longer to spread out under the weight of the heatsink
Farm-07 Shin Etsu G751 test.
Farm-07 is a Q6600 running on an EVGA 680i A1 rev board @ 2.8gig. It is in a rack mount (4RU) case, horizontal mobo, with a Zalman 9700 cooler. This has an Antec cyclone double slot cooler for exhaust (plus the PSU exhaust) and a 120 mm fan for intake air.
Starting paste is a Shin Etsu G751 mount, about 6 months old.
I accidentally twisted the 9700 when taking it off. This may have messed up the spread pic, but whatcha gonna do....It doesn't appear that I was real generous on this mount. The paste looks a bit thin, even though it's covered...

I used a healthy pea blob with D7. Here it is
http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s...7d7peablob.jpg
Shin Etsu - before Temps
Idle:
Ambient 25.9C
CoreTemp 49,49,45,46
Load:
Ambient 25.9C
BOINC, Months of straight running...
Coretemp 66,65,61,63
D7 - After Temps
Idle:
Ambient 26.1C
CoreTemp 45,45,40,43
Load:
Ambient 24.6C
BOINC, 16 hours running
Coretemp 61,60,58,60
As you can see, the D7 beat the old Shin Etsu mount quite well. Several degrees when you factor ambients in.....
It really is looking like this D7 stuff is "the :banana::banana::banana:". Schweet!
yeah it seems to be doing a good job here! I have found that after a full 7 day of running time the temps go up a couple degrees but then it just stays there. I am happier with it then my first impressions.
This mount is 6 hours old. I might have to remount and use more paste because look at the difference between those cores. I do not have a before temp because I just got this CPU today.
Says G0 on the screenshot. =]
Edit: Those temps are high for that clock, what type of cooling do you have?
Edit 2: Scythe Infinity? Never tried one of those.. hmm.. doesn't seem very good. =[ With my TRUE and my clock at 3.2 I was at 45*C max loaded. (Now at 3.6ghz... 55-60 loaded =p)
my room stays about 80f and my G0 is running only 50c at 3.0 9x multiplier. why are you running 8x multiplier?
