fixed now
What kind of FSB are you running?
I found that water cooling the NB is unnecessary. I took an old CPU fan and found some screws with pointed tips and screwed the fan onto the NB heatsink. This is probably not needed anyway, but I feel better about the temps, now 35c at 435FSB and 1.41v. Doing this also cooled down the south bridge substantially. Temps were up to 59c before.
My CPU can't get anywhere near the FSB limit unless I lowered the multiplier.
I flashed back to Bios 0219 just to check the overclocking results with that original bios:
Same results, same performances, ...
I can't tell the difference between 0219 and 0308 so.
Maybe it's because I don't use RAID.
I just don't see the difference with my setup.
Anybody managed to have a working pvi-e raid controller on this board?
I have heard that the x38 and x48 dont like it.
@LostHawk - did you try to run a dual core cpu before dropping in the 9450?
Mod or OP - Need to change the title of this thread or start new...
I originally had the 6750 before jumping to the 9450. Got it to 3.6 (8x450), all auto, 1.34v; 3.8 (8x475), all auto, 1.406v; and finally stopped at 4.0 (8x), all auto, with 1.47v. All stable except 4.0 - prime failed @ just over 3 hours. I'm sure 4.0 would have been stable if I attempted to tweak other voltages, but was anxious to get the 9450 in.
Researching the Q9450 now (already installed). Was hoping 3.8 would be a safe target, but it's looking more like 3.6 is a bit safer 24/7.
Just wanted to say thanks for doing some of the legwork on the Rampage.
Yes, 3.6GHz is safer for 24/7 really.
In my case I just want this processor and motherboard to survive for one year (till Nehalem).
I wouldn't leave it at 3.8GHz like I do now if I wanted to keep that setup for several years.
Edit: I am still hoping for a new Bios where I can lower the NB and VTT voltages though.
I hear ya. This was my last 775 build. Will leave it at 3.6.
Nehalem in 2009.
Right - Ive decided... I shall be picking one of these up at the weekend... lets see how she goes!
I read through the maximus frontpage where it talks about cooling, and couldnt see this anywhere... can anyone confirm that an evercool VC-RE will fit the SB? I have one sat here thats all!
Official 0219 bios is out from ASUS website.
No longer beta, w00t!
Hows it going with your GX2? Is it working now... im hoping I dont have the same problem when I come to pick up my board.
How come i can't see it, is there another website i should be going through instead of usa.asus.com?
It's from the usual global download site: http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us
But do not use the Selection options to find it (products/socket/model) or you will only find Maximus ones.
Use the Search function from the top left corner with "rampage" and you will find it.
Short version:
I've had nothing but trouble with Super Talent T8UB2GC5 2GB DDR2-800 with this motherboard. (It might be my fault... or it might be incompatible).
I'm going to replace it with 4x2GB GSkill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQR.
Long version:
I recently completed an upgrade of my system with the following components:
Q9450 OEM
Rampage Formula
4x Super Talent T8UB2GC5 2GB DDR2-800 (The super cheap $35/2GB sticks at ewiz)
I was able to O/C to 400 FSB at stock voltage and was 15 hour prime stable. However, after switching from small FFTs to blend to test my RAM stability, my computer crashed after only 3 minutes. I then ran MEMTEST on all possible pair combinations of the RAM and then each stick individually. What I found was that anytime one of my memory modules was in place, I would get hundreds of errors in MEMTEST and Prime would crash after minutes.
When I just use two of the sticks, I get no errors in memtest but my computer still locks up and blue screens during blend testing in Prime. I've tried upping NB voltage, manually loosening the timings, upping RAM voltage a bit, and trying different straps... all with the same results: the blue screens and crashes and errors during blend testing in Prime (while small fft stable all night long). I've even tried setting everything back to stock and underclocking ram and loosening the timings.. same results.
I think I can thus conclude that this memory is not compatible with this motherboard?
I am going to RMA it and replace it with 4 sticks of GSkill F2-8000CL5D-4GBPQ R that bigslappy, lostlilchild6, and seamumc are using with this board as it seems to work great.
Please get the PC8500 version of that G.skill memory; it is the exact same kind I have, and a few other people in this thread. That way, we can keep things more consistent and help each other out :)
Does anyone know a way to detect what Trd is being set when set to auto, I was finally able to get back my 500fsb by setting it to auto, but I am wondering what value it's using when i do that.
Use Memset to check. :)
