If you can get high NB, you can beat most scores of someone with lower NB.
High HT wins in GPU benches. We're talking 400-600 points in 25k alone from 1x to 4x HT multi.
heres my wprime at 2.64ghz. Vista business x64, 8gb ram, cpu 1.35v

Edit: First pic was a tad small. Put a larger version up. I get 15.992 at 2.53ghz.
Well Ricey, thanks for the post. This is good to compare.
I always want to see the "differences" in performance. My chip has been slower than most so far as in I have lower RAM timings/higher speeds than people and yet same CPU MHz but slower times in time calc benches stock. So I'm curious.
Your on Vista? Isn't Vista meant to be slower on wPrime?
Your 2640MHz 1920/1920MHz 480 5-5-5-15 2T time is faster than mine at 2640MHz 2000/2000MHz 480 4-4-4-4 1T. I'm pretty sure although I'll run the same MHz/timings and post the ss to show you a comparison.
That I can't understand as you have same MB too!
You're not on 64bit are you?
Because that would explain why it's faster. 64-bit perfs better with them. ;)
yep im on 64-bit, 8gb ram which is why i cant really clock my ram any faster as im afraid its going to blow up :p:
So what are you going to get after u sell your phenom? Going to go with penryn?
Most of Penryn lineup is delayed and buggy like Phenom so nope. I was hoping to pick up one or two to test but I've heard about their delays too.
I'm waiting till next weekend-ish because of MSI/AOD testing and wanting to get hold of the unlocked edition to test this month. However I won't be buying anything, will just ask the main man if he has any spare I can toy around with. He usually ends up giving 'em me to keep anyway. :D
lol lucky. So far I got phenom to test and i can use it to replace a older S754 rig later if it doesnt work out. Was going to get something more permanent in Jan/Feb for my main rig so waiting to see how B3 and Penryn is. So far I think penryn is going to be better but we'll see.
I'll try 2.7ghz soon. Unlike yours, my CPU seems to want volts to stay stable though
I heard B3 comes in low frequnecies. 2.6GHz in early June. But that's pointless when you can get higher out of 9500... unless they go higher and they should do as they come with 13x multi. ;)
3GHz stable should be ease.
Yep. Mid-Q2 is what I heard for the preliminary date which is May and when you have such launches customers end up getting them 3-4 weeks after which is June time for us.
I only count the time of release as when we can get them. Example: Penryn is non-existent for me yet until they can release anything but a silly chip they already have. The main ones never released, same as Phenom X2/FX.
I thought B3 samples are being released this week. Supposed to go retail around Jan-Feb
Rumor started by FUDzilla:
http://www.fudzilla.com/index.php?op...=4599&Itemid=1
It is possible that AMD is sampling B3, but their rumored (I think I need to use the word rumored here as well) guidance is mid-late Q1 for volume.
ah that stinks
BTW KTE,
does speedfan work with controlling your fans?
Like Jack says, I doubt you're going to see B3 till around early March and the 2.6GHz version is even later into Q2.
Nope Ricey20 speedfan/fan changing doesn't work but I use the 9700 fan controller anyway. ;)
Have you tried Hardware Monitor by Franck (CPU-Z developer)? Try it and see if it works on your board correctly. Nice little tool.
I've tested X2 5000+/E6750/Phenom 9500 at 2640MHz in as many apps as I could today. But I sold a good 10 parts today incl some of them so not thorough.
Ah havent tried hardware monitor, i'll give it a shot. What are you going to use/play around with after u sell the phenom? :p:
A Pentium 4.... :D :D
Prolly just my lappy or a new E6850 I have. Just quite bored because I don't have much cooling and I'm one handed for about 3 days now, so might leave it. Let's hope they sell unlocked edition 9600's this week. ;)
@KTE: Could you measure power consumption of your PC when it's powered down! Well and in hybernate too, please.
I read an review, where 790FX board consumed 13W-16W when compter was shut down. So if there's the diference between Gigabyte and MSI at this - then the choice will be simple.
I'd be happy to hear from other people how much power takes the 790FX based PC out of wall socket. Thanks!
Yep, already know those values. ;)
At stock (no CnQ):
System shutdown (but PSU still on): 9W AC.
Same as P4, C2D, X2 5000+ BE systems.
Standby: 64/65W AC.
Hibernate: 9W AC.
System shutdown (PSU off): 0W AC.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
My old socket A MB uses 3,5W at hibernate/system shutdown. So, since I turn off my PC when I dont need it (or I'm not at home) this aspect is also important to me. I still wish it would be less then 9W, but I guess I can also turn off PSU too.
Do these values improve with new BIOS updates?
I read one review for Gigabyte MB:
http://www.planet3dnow.de/vbulletin/...#content_start
... and I really wonder if the high consuption of GA-MA790FX-DQ6 is because F1 BIOS they had.
It can be based on the parts the system has installed.
My P4 Prescott 3GHz and Celeron D 335 without a GPU pull the same amount of hibrenate/shutdown power as this Phenom X4, X2 BE and E6750/E6850 builds with a GPU, so it looks quite usual to me.
I don't have that GB board to test, but the power their system is pulling is not like mine, ever. My wattage has been the same throughout all BIOS versions from the first one to the latest BETA. :)
@KTE: You posted earlier your idle/stock consumption. You made an estimate od 10W for chipset. Did you try your MB with Athlon X2 (EE) CPU also? That would give us better estimate of chipset consumption.
I'd also ask how did you estimate other components. The most confusing is 10W for GPU. Do you have HD2600XT card? If yes what did you do, to achive such low consumption (compared to 'justapost' claiming (95-(77-4)=22W)
His claim goes well with: http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/vid...4_5.html#sect0
Which card do you have - Is this diference between GDDR3/4?
Not speeking of ananand tech values, that managed to do 40W (ok from wall)? I guess, they just have un-efficient PSU for low load.
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3023&p=4
My power draw figures are DC (actual power consumed) not the power at the wall which is AC. AC are always higher. ;)
Idle 790FX 10W DC (12.5 VAC) is about right IMO. Yep, I tried with X2 BE in there as well to verify. Same results.
When I tested with and without GPU (idle) on a system with known power consumption without GPU, the Sapphire HD 2600 XT added 10W DC (12.5 VAC) to the idle. GPU max load it added 50W DC (62.5 VAC).
I'm planing to buy 790FX MB (MSI or Gigabyte, depends from avaiable one), Athlon X2 BE-2400 and Sapphire HD 2600 XT Ultimate,... So I guess it's similar to your setup.
I'm also courious how mich your consumption was with X2 BE. I'm paying attention to AC/DC values posted. But still to big diferences for 2600 XT, I guess this must be connected with GPU voltage and speed.
Is your 2600 XT also Ultimate (has lower RAM speed) ?
How did you test without GPU, do you have an old PCI VGA?
Tested GPU a month back with different motherboard, using a P4 which has onboard. :)
Also with three different P35 boards the same week.
When I say BE, I meant Black Edition. The X2 5000+ BE is what I used. :)
Your X2 BE is one of my favs. It has awesome stock power draw and air overclockability. Really one of the best bang4bucks out there.
The GPU I used is a Sapphire HD 2600 XT: http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/s49v/
I got the card to test this setup because a) it had good power consumption b) I knew it's idle and full draw power c) it runs 42C stock d) fan spins very slow usually e) is quite small f) its better than the PCI cards as I can test games/3d too. :D
If I had a bigger PSU I woud've picked up something bigger, but there were none free at the time and I had to retrun my 550W and 500W ones.
KTE, are you sure you are talking about phenom not barcelona. I already know that all OEM server roadmaps are talking about May delivery with volume to the distribution channel, so that would mean that b3 barca is due in February knowing the volume they will need.
btw do you remember you're stock vcore of the 5000BE on this msi k9 board, according to the roadmap the chips out there should have a vcore between 1,325-1,375. http://products.amd.com/en-us/Deskto...ail.aspx?id=40
mine is standard @ 1,3 not that much difference though.
