Is it a 60mm fan that fits on there? My mobo gets here this mornig and I plan on cutting out of work 4 hours early! I have a Vantec Stealth 60mm fan to go on it (hopefully), but am starting to wonder of it might be too thick to fit? It is a 60x25mm.

A 60x60x10 fan fits properly - something like the "NorthQ 3700"
DHL Tracking says my board will arrive today....yehhaa :D
It is very close, but it works:

@aehmkei..........How far over the edge of the board does that heatsink hang please?
Hmmm, about 2,2 - 2,3cm
A 60mmx10mm? Crap, I don't have any that size. They are not very common, either. At least not ones that are relatively quiet. Well, I'll install everything this afternoon (it has been delivered to my doorstep at luch, still trying to ditch work!!!) without a fan and check temps. If they are acceptale, I'll leave it alone. If not, I'll have to find a fan...
Hand em a box of chocolates and tell em to piss off:D
Now that's a huge heatsink.
I already tested under LN2.

optimized cooling for the voltage converters :)

for all you wondering about fans, I put the NB fan from my evga 680i (reference board design) on the clips and it works perfectly. Just pop it out of the bracket that it comes glued to.
Weird DFI makes a $296.00 mobo and only use non sufficiant paste on the NB and SB chipsets. I know they were thinking about those individuals who will use water cooling or their own Air Cooling setups, but what about those who wish to have the Stock setup and overclock just a wee little bit.
Basically i like to know how are the temps on the stock setup for the NB and SB chipsets?
Also is this mobo better then its P35 sister board, yes i know it has 2 x 16 PCIe slots and 2.0 specifiation, but thats not what i mean. Is it better for overclocking or comparable or just sucks.
It obviously runs hotter from what i gather from reading in the forums as the X38 chipset does run hotter then the P35 chipset.
I am not keen on running Crossfire as i have a 8800 GTS 320MB card Overclocked to 650/1450/1874 and if i make a move to another video card it will be a Dual GPU card whether it is made by ATI or Nvidia will be determined by the price per performance factor.
So far what i have been reading about this DFI X38 mobo is it is a pretty solid mobo, but there is not to many people who have the mobo right now and there is not any really good reviews of this mobo out yet.
I am kinda in a Ho Hum state on which motherboard to purchase when it comes to the P35 vs the X38.
I am also considering i know i know its taboo to state it in here in a DFI thread, but i am also considering the ASUS Maximus Formula X38 Mobo as it appears to be a very strong motherboard for overclocking Quad-Cores.
I wish to purchase a QX9450 yorkfield when they ever do arrive now in Feb-Mar next year. I already have purchased some PC2-8000 G.Skill 2x2GB = 4GB dual channel kit modules, so i know i will be fine for memory.
I am just really stuck on which mobo to purchase is all and will DFI continue to support these mobos bioes in the near future, like Mar-June next year or will they just dump a decent bios and leave us all to use any modded bioes that happen to come out, if they ever do.
Thks
Alright, it is up and running. It has one, huge, annoying bug so far and that is with the bios. Anytime I change a settings, and I mean any setting and reboot, it will not post. It does the usual Intel power up and down and back up, this I am used to. But, it never reposts. It is fairly easy to solve, I just hard power down for about 10 seconds and restart it and it posts, settings saved and all. Hopefully this can be addressed in a future bios update.
Second is the Areca ARC-1210 controller. It does work in the second pci-express X16 slot. But...only at 1X. It will not operate and 8x or even 4x. I put it in the upper 4x slot and all is well. I have 2 HD3850 512meg video cards arriving tomorrow (just have to try crossfire!), so the 4x slot won't bother me, considering it ran like that in my P35 mobo anyways.
More to come...
That reminds me of the Asus MVP-Deluxe motherboard which did not get corrected for about 4-5 bioes down the road. I do believe it is was issue with the Drive Strengh or D-Skew and who knows maybe this is a similar factor in this X38 bios right now.
I did read about this issue in another forum or thread maybe in here i can't remember, but they too had the same issue as you and yes turning the PC off and booting again solved the issue, but it is annoying if you have to change a few things in the bios and happen to have this issue all the time.
I haven't seen the reboot issue yet. Just guessing, I've probably been in and out of the BIOS a couple of hundred times now.
What I did for the time being is switch it to "mode 1" on restart. I know this isn't exactly recommended, but for minor changes, (ie enabling/disabling lan, onboard sound, boot order etc...) it seems alright. I have already made all the important changes (cpu speed, overclock, etc..) and am back to normal restarts and all is well.
I just installed and played COD4 for a few, just to test 3d stability and everything seems to be working just fine. So far, so good. Tomorrow will be the big test when I take out my 8800gt and install the 2 HD3850's.
Another side note, 8gig of G-Skill is working flawlessly in this board, as it did with the P35-TR2. Just wanted to throw that out there...
Very good to know the G.Skills are working flawlessly as i have the PC2-8000 2x2GB - 4GB kit, which i noted about in my previous post. I am just stuck on what mobo to purchase is all.
Come on ppl i want to see 8 x 500 and memory at 1000mhz if possible from these mobo's.
If anyone has had experience with this board and the Asus Maximus Formula SE, which do you prefer? I'm fed up with this 680i crap and need to know which of these two boards will get me the highest oc on my qx6700.
8*500 for the majority of the cpu is not possible..
i have a crap e6850 so i can only top out at 520 fsb
@shawn1998
I've been able to duplicate the issue you are seeing with no post by not supplying th NB with enough voltage. If you increase NB voltage with all other setting unchanged does it still happen?
How much should I increase the NB voltage by? I am running my Q6600 G0 @ 9x333 and the ram at 333/800 (= 2.99ghz and DDR2-800). I increased the ram voltage to 1.94 and am completely stable in games and such, so no issues there. The NB voltage as it stands is at stock.
Give me a ballpark figure, so I don;t screw anything up too bad. Thanks!!!
Shawn
Increase it one or two notches and see what happens. Isn't going to hurt anything. If that's the problem it may still hang on the first bootup. The chipset on this board requires a bit more voltage then the P35 did. Low NB voltage can also cause C1 errors depending on other settings.
OK, I'll report back in a few...
I bumped it up .10 volts from stock and so far so good. I plan on installing those new 3840's tomorrow, so that will be the big test. But, looks as if that might have doen it. Thanks, Praz!!!
