New VID entries?

I was playing around w/ nibitor today, and was able to add entries, but I'm still afraid to flash it. I was having problems w/ nibitor acting funny until I found out I needed to change the VID bitmask to accommodate the additional entries. Now Nibitor seems to be working fine, but I'm still not sure if I can or need to change the amount of active entries to a higher value. Or should I change one of the 4 already active entries to a higher VID? Or just make Exact 1.2 (for now) and be done w/ it?

Edit: I changed the number of active VIDs back to 4 b/c 8 was showing up as 0 when I reloaded the saved BIOS. But I can still select Entry 4 to be "VID 5 1.2v". Then I can set Exact to 1.2v. This seems like it might work, but I'm too chicken to try it first.

Edit2: It seems that since I can't change the number of active entries above 4 (and have it stick) that it makes no sense to have additional entries in the table. Once I changed entry 4 to VID05 it overwrote VID03 to VID05. So any additional entries are ignored from the viewpoint of Nibitor. Now what I've done is to just overwrite the first 4 entries to have higher VIDs and higher corresponding labels (it starts w/ VID02 now instead of VID00). It shows up correctly in Nibitor, but I'm still scared to give it a try.

nice work. hope someone can test it out.

it's a shame there isn't a 2d/3d mode anymore. otherwise, test around with it on 3d mode, and if it locks up the card, just flash back. then again i guess that might also be near best case scenario.

Could it just be heat thats keeping your numbers down?
I have a superclocked evga and under water (mcw60, mcr220+320 radiator) and ramsinks on everything, I get 38c/33c under load
767gpu/1955 shader/1021 memory.
I 100% agree, memory on this board sucks the big one.
I would try the flash too, but I don't think it will push my scores any higher. I have a feeling most of the these numbers are low due to heat, because on the original sink I couldn't get past 720/1780/1000

Also, does changing the pci-e voltage in the motherboard-bios do anything??

For the sinks I use mx2 compound a tiny tiny dab of superglue to hold the thermaltake copper sinks on. Works well and they barely get warm.

Nice mod. I think it will be fine, as nibitor shows bios has integrity. It will either run at 1.2v as set, or run at the default voltage. these mods dont always result in a voltage increase, even though it is set in bios - remember the 6800's ;)

whats the point of that bios i dont get it, you can change the voltage table inside nbitor without the hex............still 1.1 is max

Just one question:if I change the voltage in the nibitor,and then flash the card would that be the voltage the card will use??For example my card has a 1,32V for 3D load,if I put a modified BIOS with 1,4V for 3D load would that be the card voltage??

You can't change the VID's w/o using hex. At least as far as I know. I'm pretty new to this.

The card doesn't care what the labels say, but if it can recognize VID04, and/or VID05 (or more) then we might be getting somewhere.

Edit: I just tried it, and it doesn't help. As far as I can tell the card doesn't recognize VID04, and my previous max 1.1v OCs were no longer artifact free after i modded the BIOS for 1.15v. Oh well...time to go to Radio Shack!

No it won't change. The label that put nibitor next to the VID is only to remember which VID correspond to which voltage.

The only data that the card care about is the VID. So if your card has a default VID of 03, changing it to 04 and flashing the bios will change the Vcore. But if your are already using VID 04 and change the label to anything, it won't change the Vcore of the card.

Jason also tried to set the VID to 05 but it seems the card doesn't recognize it.

So if my card has a voltage 1 and 2,on the voltage 2 there was 1,32V and I change it to 1,4V,so if I understood correctly what you said it wont change correct??(sorry I'm not from a English country so sometimes get's hard to understand what you're trying to explain)

Did r4st4m4n answer your question? Do you have the 8800GT or some other card?

Edit: Correct, your voltage won't change. All the card sees is VID00 and VID01. The label is irrelevant from the cards point of view.

im positive there are no gains. I flashed my original bios with 1,1V gpu, higher clocks and thats it. my Vgpu at idle is above 1,1V and at load-3D it is even higher than idle. VGPU at 1,12V idle and 1,15V load

How do you measure how much voltage is going to the 1)GPU, and also to 2)RAM? I got a sneaking suspicion my 8800gt has a bad voltage regulator or something similar.

At stock fan speeds and bios I can only overclock to 635/900. Move the ram to 905 and I get errors. I have never seen such a bad overclocker of a card before, not even when I first got my radeon rage 2 card.

Multimeter!

Set the fan speed higher and see how well it turns out. If that doesn't work open the cooler and see if anything is obviously messed up. Does seem like a bad clocker.

I tried an older bios from a SC and now I can overclock to 650ish maybe 670 still testing.

Still a bad clocker but somewhat salvagable.

Where do I place the multimeter thongs to test the voltage, for both ram and gpu?
