well; it's just like the other ones...mine is stuck on "pciinit" error...as were all the other bioses i tried.
pulled everything out of the board and tried to boot...
put evrything back in...it gets past the detram message soo i presume the 1 stick of ram is not the problem.
i think the board is incompatible
mine is a strikerE-QQ 03/05/2007...maybe its the rev of the board...dont know how many revs of striker extreme there are? ah, mine is marked rev 1.00G...bummer.
...i havent tried 0701 or 0901 bioses - both of which were "supposed" to add 1333 fsb 'functionality'
i could be missing something...but i have no clue as to what to do next...
besides trying a p5k :doh:

the mobo must be fine because ive booted it umpteen times with the 4300...
but with 6850...NO BIOS screen (or post)
but ; i did get a posting screen with 1202...but it would not enter the bios when i hit del....it just hung....and i got a cmos error message .....which is why i thought to try different bioses. :shrug:
well that'll learn me for getting things i dont really need....
mmm might have to sell it and get a quad core kentsfield after all that....but that's just silly.

I will redo the thermal paste on mine now, remove the liquidmetal stuff, and go
back to arctic silver 5. With 1.6v yesterday i was getting ~80°, which doesnt feel good.

It was a pita to put on, doesnt work so great with a q-tip imho. I guess real pro's can put it on just fine, but i guess i used too much of it.Quote:

@adamsleath - That's not cool that the processor doesn't work. I was hoping with a new bios and a bios reset that the processor would work? This is strange b/c it should be compatible. If I come across something that I think well help I will be sure to let you know.
@pLk*zaP - I "borrowed" my wife's make up brush to apply the Liquid Metal Pro. It is a very small brush with angled bristles. I imagine a small paint brush would work as well.

if you think you are getting 'fluctuating' temps from the cpu i'd ease back on the volts.
Getting 25° idle at the moment, isnt that way to low to be true? Using TAT and SpeedFan, both show it this low.
Then again, when i oc up to 3.6ghz, i already reach 80° on both cores, running orthos.
When i see other peoples screens, they are below 70° usually, under load. I guess i really need a new cooler soon,
as much as i like the Noctua with the 2x 120mm fans, it doesnt cool so much, its just quiet it seems.
@ adamsleath - 6750 works fine with 1301 ....... maybe you got a dud chip, can you try another or re-flash the bios again?
36C after 25 mins of orthos & MB temp @ 32C all at stock. :clap:

okely dokely it seems....not sure if i damaged either chip with the 'faulty' striker ...need to run full tests b4 i know for sure.
a fool and their money...
i just didnt think the new chip was bad...so that left the mobo as the culprit.

I know this is a 6850 thread but anyway...
6750 running 3.2G (2.66 stock) max temp 45C after 2 1/2 hours of orthos. Mind you I haven't had the need to turn the heating on in the room ...
I have a good feeling this chip can take a whole lot more but I'll set it up on 3.2G for a week to see how it runs in the real world.

trying orthos...dual instances at 22c....i dont think so...
cpuz is reading 3.000ghz 333x9...anyway id say its cool at such low vcore.
fan blowing over the ram and nb.. no oc yet...but its damn coool.
1.32v at 400x8 dual orthos running....28c now at 10minutes ...fan on nb is good it is barely luke warm....i like it already. 1:1 800 ram 2t. 20c ambient.
finally a chip the tuniq can handle.

I have redone my cooling today a bit, now taking it slowly and more careful.
3.52 ghz at 1.425v for a few hours now stable with orthos, 70° on the cores tho.
adamsleath: i had those crazy low temps in the first few hours too, dunno why.
They dissappeared after a while :( Now i have 28-30 idle, with ~23 ambient.
good to know; so i dont freak out when it happens to me.

Coretemp just plain sucks at times. The only way you can make sure it's calibrated correctly against actual is to have a good digi-probe thermometer against your long unplugged system. You would have previously set your vcore and cpu speed to as low as possible that allows you to get into bios (ie, my opty would be 0.950 and 800mhz). Once you immediately get into bios you check it's temp against your probe, should be the same. Unplug the system and after an hour or more reboot, go into windows and immediately run coretemp. If coretemp reports lower than the probe (ambient) then coretemp simply is off. I've notice many times on different systems that coretemp has often reported lower than ambient, even when my vcore was at stock. It's good sometimes but can be buggy at other times. My feeling is that it 'seems' the get fairly acurate once the temps get above 40c (at least according to various trials I've done using a extremely small thermistor against the naked die).
Yup, I've seen newest CoreTemp give way too low temps, at the minimum of 8ºC inaccuracy.
