W7 x64 for me now.
after using windows 7 i now hate vista. it is a memory and drive hog and is slow. i set my bios date back to keep windows 7 beta
poll results are skewed, you have xp home/pro but list vista ultimate and home premium as two seperate ones
choices should be:
OSX
Windows XP (32-Bit)
Windows XP (64-Bit)
Windows 2003 Server
Windows 7
Linux (all versions)
Microsoft Windows 2008 Server
Microsoft Vista (32-Bit)
Microsoft Vista (64-Bit)
But i vote for Vista x64, followed by 7 x64
My gf uses Mac OSX exclusively and from what I've seen and heard from her that really is a great and robust OS. Personally I'm using XP Pro and Win 7 x64 and I really like Win 7 thusfar. However, I still voted Mac OSX.
Chrome OS FTW:rofl: I am suprised there are not more linux users here too. There are quite a few differences in XP Pro and home inluding lack of remote access in the latter. It just goes to show if it ain't broke don't fix it :)
Windows 2000 SP4 do the trick for me. Most come close Windows 2003 server (use booting files from it for 1/3 faster boot, for example) but all the rest is not good in my eyes. Windows 2000 is low resource hungry and very stable and reliable. Even for ppl that go on XXX sites only and don't really know what the heck they are doing...
XP lasted 7 to 14 days on their machines, Win2k lasted more that 3 years in row now, so I would say that the system has proven itself worthy.
Of course, it lack the flashy graphic & sh*t, but at least that did not occupy space on my and others screens... ;)
XP Pro 32/64bit might move on to 7 when more drivers and other stuff are out...
I voted for 64bit Vista. I have a copy of 32bit Win7 ultimate infront of me but until I can find a 64bit cd for it I'm not going to install. I really liked win2k, Win XP was nice I used it more than any other OS but it has a lot of flakey flakey issues. Even when I work on other peoples XP computers it still seems common, maybe not as much as before but still. I really have enjoyed Vista, I have had this computer now for close to 3 years and I have not had to reformat yet. So I can't complain at all about Vista really, where as with XP I reinstalled once a year or twice sometimes.
I also run OSX For last 4 years, and it boggles my mind I'm constantly running out of space it tells, me! Like hard drive space and I'm not downloading anything or installing anything. Where is it all going!!?! If I watch any browser based video of anything it also some how is a :banana::banana::banana: load of work for it and results in skyrocketing temps of 80C so I have to shut down the browser. I find it really flakey and I would never buy a mac for a main system after using this for 4 years.
I still love my 64bit vista. I have Windows 7 in a virtual machine but it is really no different than vista. I don't think I will change anytime soon. Too bad vista got such a bad rap. I have never had a problem with it in 2 years either.
Windows 7....64-bit! ...only because OpenSolaris wasn't a choice. ;)
I have a spectrum of OSes.
Win7 x64 on my main desktop. Laptop is running XP Home. Server/Storage system runs XP Pro.
Router/Firewall runs PFSense (Linux based)
I also have an Ubuntu box in the kitchen..
Windows 7 x64 on the main rig, Windows 7 x86 on the notebook, and XP Pro SP3 on the work system due to software compatibility.
I'm just 5 min old on XP64, just been at the win7 x64 for the third time. This time it actually took me 2 days before I got fed up with all the sluggishness, breadcrumbs that wont let me see the whole tree, dialogs that have been divided into stupidly many levels of single settingtemplates and HDMI problems and whatnot. It's a piece of junk, for the weaker-minded that really believes its a fast OS becuase the swishy-swoshy menues and semi-transparent borders. Vista I tried only once, took me half a day to opt out from that one...
If you haven't guessed it already, I vote XP.
And to be more precise:
XP32>W2003>XP64>W2k>1>(Win7+Vista)
Looks like you need a new machine then. Vista and W7 are much more stable than XP ever thought of being.
tried them all but i keep coming back to my favorite.
XP,like now,i just installed my second favorite vista 64
so i can crunch with for the May 1st-8th crunch-a-thon.
but i will always go back to my XP.Win7 is alright but just
not 100% sure, whether i like it or not
Win7 x64; I like the UI changes in 7 and windows can do 'everything' without needing to dual boot. I did like FreeBSD a few years ago when I used to use *nix, I think ill eventually install BSD or linux back on some headless crunchers for WCG.
Win 7 Pro / Ultimate outclasses XP Pro by a long way. If your not a Windows user, my vote goes to Ubuntu.
+1 Ubuntu
7 Ultimate x64
I use Windows 7 x64 Pro on almost every machine I have. XP I like, although I'm feeling it to be a bit old at this point.
I hated vista with a passion, and yes, I'm aware windows 7 is more of a "Windows Vista Proper Edition"
I also really like Windows Server 2008 R2.. Its great and runs on my 24/7 fileserver.
