Having very tiny scratches could possibly even help give the TIM particles get a hold onto the copper and inrease the contact surface a bit.
Having a mirror finish might mean there´s no more porous surface so nothing for the TIM particles to dig into.
Like having paint on a very smooth surface, it´s very easy to scratch it off, sanding the surface helps the paint to get a grip.
I don´t know if it holds any truth though, just a hunch.

I get you, I just know he means the very edge of the surface, mainly in the corners, and not the top of the surface that we seek to flatten (even though that's how he worded it). Some say above 600 grit is a waste of time. Diminishing returns. Will have to test it some time. Anyway, it looks pretty. :)
They look awesome guys, I'm gonna get some 300 and 600grit paper tomorrow and lap my hsf and e6300. It idles at 44C and load at 63C at stock :( Not so flat I'm thinking...
edit: that's with 20c ambient, 5 case fans and tidy wiring >_<

Both E6600 IHS and Scythe Ninja were twisted, and This lapping was very good, my temperatures dropped 10-15C degrees.

I meant exactly how I worded it. You're sanding down the edges first, why? because as myself and other people have pointed out, you roll the processor slightly every time you move it back and forth, unless you're the terminator. :)Quote:

I used 3pcs of 400grit, 3pcs of 500grit and 2pcs of 2000grit paper. I lapped CPU on big 10mm thick tempered glass.
I finalised lapping with Brasso metal polishing liquid. After that I poured drinkglass full of ethanol and dropped my E6600 in. I should be taken few pictures of that but I did not.
