Heh i dont know whats up with this "CPU INIT" after bios flash... im staying on 0701 until im done benching with x6800 and 8800gtx in sli.(i dont want to hot flash every single day...)..i wont keep the board anyway coz its just to buggy for me i will take the Commando and single GTS or a GTX....
commando looks real good; i'd recommend it to any1
eva2000: I was reading Kunaak's thread about his 2nd look at 680i w/ his P5N32-E and he stated some of the memory ratios are very strong on his board while others are a bit weak. Have you noticed any strong or weak memory ratios for the striker from your testing? I saw you ran 2:3 with your VX @ 600mhz. Any others you are using with success?
Maybe we could compile a list of the ratios and what FSB was used. That we can find the sweet spots on the board.
I've noticed that 16:15, 1:1, 4:5 at 400FSB to work quite easily. On the other hand 5:6 at 400FSB will not boot.
Anybody else find strong or weak ratios?
From my testing I haven't noticed any strong or weak dividers... maybe it depends on what memory you have as to what dividers work well ?Quote:

I would, but i put the new BIOS chip in the board - and the board is still dead. STUCK at CPU INIT. I've got an RMA# to send this back, and i plan to send it back with the origianl BIOS chip, keeping the new one here on the desk. However - If someone knows how to make this go away so i can USE my SLI comptuer - it woudl be great.Quote:

Yes - CPU INIT is stuck on the back LCD screen. I even pulled every card, the IDE connector, the memory, AND the CPU - and still CPU INIT on the LCD.
Unless someone else can recommend another 680i board, I'll just hot swap this board - buy another and sell the RMA board when it comes back. It HAS to be a 680i - becuase i already have two 8800GTX cards - and I want to run SLI. And, going to an AMD chip is ABSOLUTLY out of the question.

why dont you try the abit 32x max? that's what i was going to get but it isnt available in australia yet...

i've also read that evga has a good bios now (it's had so many revs) abit might take forever with bios fixes.
Assuming its getting any voltage then I would agree that it should get hot very quickly...if its not then your not getting any voltage...

vinegar is mildly acidic; maybe you could flush it with water laced with white vinegar as a solvent...

the main point here: with "strong" divider you can get higher stable fsb freq. The point is: to hit more than 500MHz fsb you need 5:6 divider. With other dividers it will be not stable or even not bootable.Quote:

re dividers:
well i think dividers are irrelevant. cpu fsb runs at such and such a speed; ram runs at such and such a speed...it all depends on what cpu you got and what ram you got:
good cpu chippy and good ram sticks will run at their "optimum" settings...i've seen no proof of particular dividers running better on my board...my cpu maxes out totally dependant on voltage: regardless of divider.
...at certain nb fsb (eg. from 424 to 425) ram bandwidth takes a big dip...i've tried my ram at various dividers and it maxes out at the same settings. you all have unique ram sticks and cpu's..no two are identical....as with the mobo's some are better or worse than other samples.
in order to get 500 x 7 on my board i suspect i would have a burning cinder where my nb used to be b4 i got there :) at 440 x 8 and 1.65v on nb my nb gets freakin hot and it does not stay stable: and i'm not game to increase nb voltage past that....shame tho, i would like some more ram bandwidth :( sometimes you get wot u pay for and sometimes you get wot you dont pay for :)

anyway; the cpu is still the bottleneck for the graphics...still heaps of potential in this mobo with a better cpu :)

If u ask me the best fluid to use is plain old car engine coolant. Its cheap and if u read the ingredients its the exact same stuff those companies bottle up and sell to you as computer coolant.

I got sick of this board, and all its stupid issues, for $400 this thing isnt worth it, worse board i have ever owned, gave me so many problems, doesnt even have a stable bios, overall i wouldnt recomend this board for 400 bucks, if it was 229 maybe, sold it and got myself an ASUS COMMANDO, i hate ASUS but at the moment it seems like the best choice for non SLI boards. will have results up soon.
To each their own. I personally feel that this board suffers only from bad BIOS engineering (typical ASUS).
The board layout is quite good and roomy, for the most part. While overclocking may take quite a long time to get ahold of, I feel that this issue stems from the crappy BIOS writing.
I like mine, but like I said... To each their own.
I'm enjoying mine especially after my BX2, but I have an open box which cost $260.
I think if the bios that bachus_anonym was talking about in the 0901 bios thread is released then this board will be sweet. According to what he said it will hopefully be the end of this week.
BTW, BIOS 0901 was added to ASUS FTP today.
