Not everyone can afford a Xeon and cherry picked RAM. If you can't, then a 975x really isn't the greatest option. Neither is a $250-$300 DFI LanParty either IMO. As for this board, I don't think the 1T issue is worth worrying about if you have a e6400. As for the board layout, I don't think a revision from Nvidia will fix that. Is it better than a 965, that's a toss up, but I havn't read anything that bad about it either.Quote:

neither, just use your better judgement.
Core Temp measures exactly that. the core, Asus probe measures the temps outside the core.
a conroe has a temp probe built into the core on each core. so core temp and TAT report temps always higher than anything else.
only Speedfan has the ability to read BOTH core temps and cpu temps. and there is almost always a 10c difference or close..
dont worry about it really. but if your super anal about temps, then use TAT not core temp. TAT is found on google or the intel website. it stands for Thermal Analysis Tool. and it also has a cpu stressing program built into it that generates more heat than even Gromacs Core Orthos.
and i couldn't take it anymore my conroe rig has been torn down for 3 weeks now so i been working off my lappy. which i usually use more than my desktop anyways. so i grabbed the 650i.
me and my 6600 ES are gunna make her bleed thats for sure.
I don't think you can run TAT on this board since it does not use Intel chipsets.

See, normal people can't cherry pick their hardware, and most benchers just buy regular hardware from regular places like everyone else does. There's nothing saying a Xeon can't do well in a 650i board, either, as long as the board can hit 500fsb (assuming a Xeon 3040). 975x is just a stronger chipset. Maybe it hits 30 less fsb, but it makes up for it.
if cf runs on 965, then 965 plus 2 x r600 sounds logical to me..if sli is your thing then this p5n-e board is the cheapest option for best performance overall at this point in time IMO.
r600 has no master - will r600 cf work on 965? if so then you'd have soopa graphics with super stable o/c..not that i'm going that way cos i already got an 8800....on the other hand...?:) r600 cf 965 probably strangled by 4x pcie (maybe oc pcie 4x to 6x?) anyway r600 too far away for me
edit: actually i've read that r600 is releasing in u.s. on 22nd January (for a mere 630usd)...RD600 anyone? :ROTF:
I have also run into the 425 fsb wall. The setup im using is: Xeon 3050 (L630 batch A) @ 425 x 8 1.4vcore orthos stable, ocz rev 2 pc 6400 plat @ 4-4-4-15 425 (2.2 vdimm) memtest stable, and using a tuniq tower. Any higher than 425 refuses to be stable at any voltage (chipset voltage @ 1.5v). I am wondering if this has anything to do with the LDT multiplier (can't test it right now as its my friends setup).
Forgot to mention: If you're having trouble overclocking, try putting your ram in the black slots. That worked for me.

y are ram slots like dat? my 939 boardy doesnt boot with ram in alternate slots. yes i know this (re post below) on my board two yellows and two oranges. for dual channel with only 2 sticks my board seems to default to the yellows...i have all 4 filled so it doesnt matter...i am just curious why 1 pair of slots wood be better than the other?
It just depends on the motherboard... if the mobo manufacturer(in this case asus) decides to make every other slot a different channel then thats how you put them in... (yellow and yellow, or black and black, for this asus mobo). Some other manufacturers choose to pair two different channels together as the same color. Not all boards are the same and you have to look at the manual to see where to put your memsticks in for dual channel operation...which means sticks in seperate channels...Quote:

havent heard of one yet...what voltage you neeed on the cpu? i think that is the crucial question.
Has any1 seen the heatsink holes near the vr's/PWM on p5n-e? Do they get hot / is there a hsink that fits there?
if I where you, i'd do a custom job. get some thermal compound, and old P2 heatsink, and cut it apart. then just stick em to the PWM's

wow; i just stuck another 80mm fan next to the 120 on my cpu sink and cpu temp went down from 39 to 33 degrees idle. :) PWMIC also at 33
mm checked agin much later only 36 idle....ninja might git some more degrees?
i'm a bit worried now...c2d is hotter than a64 i think.

I try with 50K Ohm --- > trace route from FB4 to SMD and nothing :confused:
