I tried both and I prefer the Ultra-120 wich is the one I use at the moment.

so shouldnt the scythe be the new king of the hill if it gets 3-6c improvment from this mod?

But with the mod the temps decrease. Most people don't care for the mods, they just want to see the best performance right out of the box. With the mod I guess it is the new king of the hill, but hey maybe someone get find a mod for the Thermalright Ultra 120:cool: .

A question I have is about screwing in the Tuniq Tower 120, do the screws have to go through all the way? or is it ok if all the screws are tight enough already?

Good review but I don't like that the Ultra-120 and SI-128 are discredited because of the lame Intel mounting system. Too bad it wasn't done on AM2.

this is probably the best review I have EVER seen of heatsinks. they use a ounting system which makes equal pressure all around, one amt of thermal paste, and its small enough to see how well the heatsink spreads it as well. The only thing its missing is the tuniq tower. :( But I guess the lesson of this roundup is to lap your heatsink, reguardless of how shiny it is :) lol.

we can clearly see that either the heatsink is concave, or the IHS is. Or maybe both are becuase there are scratches around the edges where the corners of the cpu IHS would be. Good thing my cpu is lapped.

i really have a thought that the ultra 120 will be the king in the tower heatsinks and the si-128 to be the king of the non tower heatsink but it came out the other way round... i wonder if the mounting mechanism is really having some problem.... does anyone faced that issue before???

ya i was looking for tuniq tower also but too bad no one has it in my country so i will have to carry it out without tuniq... :(

In my experience with the Infinity and the clip-type mounting. It's not that the base isn't flat, it's that at different times in the mounting process, there's a lot more strain on different edges on the IHS, and they imprint the base of the HSF.

May seem like a drawback, but I can switch HSFs (Infinity -> TTBTvx -> Infinity) in less than 2 minutes, so those little indents are really worth it, IMO. Plus the end result is very even pressure :)

3.6ghz for a conroe is pretty high, those two coolers won't be enough. I have my ac freezer 7 pro totally decked out (Lapped, Pressure Mounted) and it can only take my cpu to 3.4ghz until I start seeing 60c. I also have my IHS Lapped and I also am using the Zalman STG-1 Thermal Grease which is ever so slightly better than as5. The only time I can clock to 3.5 is when my 90cfm fan which I mounted on it is on full blast ;)

I personally don't like any "Ultra" brand stuff tho.

This review doesn't make the Scythe infinity look very good at all.

But then again the papst they use is a relatively low cfm fan. I wonder how those coolers will all do with fans in the 90CFM range.
