ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 First Look

Well, what are the verdict? I plan to buy something quick. I WOULD really love Fatal1ty for it's coolings :) (Anyway I can think of, it will cost me close to diff between DFI and Abit board to do same kind of cooling so I don't think it is any more over priced than DFI board at the time)
I REALLY do like placement of northbridge on this board over DFI so I can put some decent air cooling on it. However, if there are no ways to up the vdimm past what seems to be 2.85v (I really don't feel like doing cap mod this time) I guess that would be no go.
Also another thing is how is DFI's compatibility with memories and limitation with divider etc? Lots of board have some interesting divider issues on diff memory (epitome seems to be MSI with VX or Asus with many memory)
I look forward to finding this answers. (BTW, anyone with supertalent memory cooler vs this abit OTES, are they of same fan size ? :P)

yea, 5 pages of thread and nothing really definitive. i think gitsum needs to hear back from abit support, and its the weekend right now. he'll probably get his email replied to by monday hopefully.

Verdict is not to buy the board until a new bios comes out or mods.

Well that's great. They put out a P4 version & it's hailed as the king of OCing mobos, then they put out the AMD and it sucks? What is the deal with this generations' AMD mobos not being worth a damn? I should have just gone 754.

One thing strikes me as odd is that the voltage for the NF4 chip goes from 1.5 - 1.8
Why would you need to overvolt the south bridge so much? What gain would you get with that?
I understand overvolting the HTT bus would help trying to run it out of spec but the chip itself I don't get. Will it make my LAN faster?

Doubt your LAN will get faster....LOL. I do know on my NF7-S the system is more stable at a 1.7 voltage than the default 1.6, so maybe it might come into play as you push the system further.

I think ur talking about the northbridge, which on the nf7 = the memory controller. Northbridge on the fatality is the nf4 chipset, increasing voltage would stabalize the mobo with high htt. Southbridge controls I think the onboard sound and lan things like that, that never get overclocked. Irrevelant to any kind of overclocking you might need to do, afaik, my kv8 Pro had this option as well.

I wouldn't say "so far behind" ... it came out about 10 days after the DFI, which is not problem-free too.

Any info on the noise of the OTES and RamFlow cooling?

The two OTES fans on the back are usually off with the way I've got them set.
All six fan headers on the board can be customized as to how fast they run and when.
The noise they make, makes no difference at all compared to the fan in my power supply.
The ramflow thing seems to help alot with keeping the ram cool.

How hot can the ram get with only 2.86vdimm lol. That sounds really gimmicky to me even if it does work good, I don't see a use without modding the board.

BTW, is there any new about the vdimm thing? (or can you know from the the BIOS you already have if it's 2.8v + 0.6v or 0.06v ?)
