we never change the chips on 2GBZX
but the chips is getting weaker from the chip vender.
also it is guarantee on DDR400 2-3-2-5
the value ram for DDR400 2.5-3-3-5 is around 170~180,
if this memory can not overclock at all
DDR400 2-3-2-5 for 195 is very reasonable price :)

In theory it's wrong to complain about a product's overclockability. The If-what-you-get-does-what-it's-supposed-to,-don't-whine crap. But in PRACTICE... oh boy.

But Lestat.. it's not the manufacturer's 'fault', it's the chip vendor listening to Boyzone rather than their guts.

Been thinking the same as well....it truly sucks spending tons of $$ of supposedly prime OC products only to be disappointed again and again :(

Nanolab, have you tried BIOS 1011.01? I know it's a beta, but it's worth a try. Maybe it might work better with your board, which may be good news for me.

both kits are very nice in my opinion, depends on what you want out of them i guess.

zx gets 3-3-2 at 250 pretty easilty, where hz is more like 3-4-4... at the same time, hz will probably get more mhz in the end.

Well, last and only hope left to me was to try the sticks in my brother's rig, wich is exactly the same as mine :
A8N sli premium with an A64 3500+,
same 6800GS Pov graphic card.
Only differences are the PSU (450 W included in Antec Sonata) and the bios used : 1007).
The G.Skill kit worked perfectly... 4 passes of memtest86+ without a glitch at stock speed (2 3 2 5 1T @ 400 mhz) and no stability problems under windows.
So looks like my mobo and/or my A64 is faulty :( I tend to believe it's the A64 because that's where the memory controller is located...

So, I'll try to downgrade my bios to ver1007 without hope I should say. I can't believe that could be the solution.

Before you do that, swap out the PSU out of your Bro's rig and see if that makes a difference.

Nanolab, I'm sorry if you already stated it earlier, but what is your PSU brand and what model? Like the post just before mine, you might try PSU swap and see that it helps.

I just try to swap PSU with no success (I got an Antec Truepower 2.0 550 watts). Always freezing memtest+ and windows.
I'm convinced that it's my mobo or my A64 which is faulty.....

crap.. and i just ordered a ZX.. hopefully old stock.. :cool:

just received a kit of ZX from newegg a week ago for a friend and as soon as he installed it in his system it was able to boot @ DDR500 2.5-3-3-7 @ 2.6v on DFI ultra-D nf4

and the big BOMB is that it is stable 100% in games also

i guess he got the best kit ever

tCL 2.5 and 100% stable IS very good kit indeed. If you would look through this thread you`d notice that average OC on DDR500 has tCL 3.0 ;)

Good I bought mine ZX a while ago - DDR500@3-3-3 no problemo :D
But I use`em on stock - A64 likes low timings more than additional 50MHz with looser ones :)

Hello.. ? :rolleyes: tRP is more important, than tCL.. and having it on 3 is worse, than having tCL @ 3.. CAS, lord.. tRCD & tRP are those that effect performance the most..

Have to agree with you. After some quick tests in Sandra mem b/w tRP does proove itself as pretty important. But tCL also plays big part in b/w.

Yes, that's why i quoted the other person in the first place..

It seemed a bit odd, that he could run tCL @ 2.5 / DDR500.. For xE-6s that's pretty much uncommon indeed :)

He also had tRP @ 3, which certainly can't make it to be the best ZX kit out there.. :cool: Overall an interesting kit, wonder how much does it do with lower tRP max 3d stable..

Anyhow, going to get mine in a few days, we'll see how good they still are.. :rolleyes:

Nanolab, one more thing to try, swap out your CPU with your brother's and see if it makes any difference. It if indeed makes a difference, then you know it's your CPU's mem controller.

Got myself a 2GB Gskill ZX kit yesterday.:D

The only problem is I can't get it stable @ 2-3-2-5 @ 200MHz, first it didn't want to boot into Windows but then I played with the timings and now it is Pi-Fast stable, not much more than that though.

What kind of DRAM Drive Strength and Refresh Period(tREF) do you use for the 2x1GB ZX?
And what bios?
And the orange or yellow memory slots?

I am using my AMD Opteron 165 0536 MPMW and DFI LanParty nF4 SLI-DR Expert.

they can do 245 @ 2.5.3.2.5 timings, but if I put in cas 3 it just simply dont get into windows :mad: but still a 245 mhz 2.5.3.2.5 overclock 100 % stable is pretty good.

Some memory doesn't like cas 3 at all when it is rated at 2/2.5. On my current 2x512MB rated at 2-3-3-6, if I put it in cas 3, my PC won't even boot at all. Had to CLEAR BIOS. I can do cas 2 and 2.5, but not 3 at all. Yours might act the same way. Your OCing isn't bad at all. If you relax the other three settings/number, you might even get it to OC higher than the 245.

There are both single stable @ 2-3-2-8 @ 200MHz, but when I put the other one in, it reboots when windows loads.:confused:

I am using a Ultra-D and the ZX 2GB Sticks. They are at 227Mhz 2.5-3-2-5 right now (2.7v). I can't complain and am totally satisified.

Very poor sticks...I got 2GBZX last Friday from www.pcmu.co.uk . Both of them are bad. Memtest96+ 1.65 gives error at default speed & settings in both single (only one stick)and dual mode. Tried also 3-3-3-5-2T at 200MHz, but still errors.Tried voltages between 2.5-2.85V. Superpi,HCI,and windows seems to stable. I can also play games and no problems. But memtest86+ gives few errors (test 3,4 and 7).

I don't think we've seen anyone sharing experiences with Neo2/PC3200ZX so it might be a bit harder this time...

Are you on any divider? By stock you mean 200x10? Can you show us how A64Tweaker screen looks like or list your RAM settings from BIOS? Do you only see errors in memtest? Is Windows very stable and just memtest giving you hard time?

Tried both Dimm1 and Dimm2 (next to processor) and Dimm3 & Dimm4. My old Ocz Platinum Rev2 2x512 work well. It seems to give error only in memtest86+. I played HL2 lost coast & Dod-source (only short time) and no problems.

well, mine are total garbage, looks like they are from the newest batch aswell..

max. i could get stable was 235 @ 3-3-2-x + issues when using dividers... Lower vDimm didn't help, only rendered more errors..

ZX is crap now..

the chip is not doing really well at overclock now.....

hmm mine have been running 250 for two weeks striaght 3-3-2 2.75v at load (folding) and i came back one night and my pc was off, so i turned it back on and im getting crashes at stock speeds now

even 200mhz 3-3-2 crashes now, i have it running 100 mhz divider just to get my windows stable.

not sure what it is but this problem sure is strange.

So this is an odd issue, memory ran fine 250 3-3-2-5 for about 2 weeks. 2.75v.

now, 200mhz is no go, stock timings.

But, single channel is a go, im not yet sure if it will make 250 though.

G.S. Technician, any chance of pulling a set like you did before from a batch that is ready to ship out and give them a whirl? My ZX are still working like the day I got them (3 months ago). It would be a shame to see these sticks diminishing in quality.....

well 2GBZX is not really good for OVERCLOCK during this time!
but as it guarantee DDR400 2-3-2-6 for $194, that is a good price for DDR400

if you really want to Overclock, i can tell you something hideing under HX,
all 2GBHX is tested under DDR500 3-3-2-6 but it only rated at DDR400 2-3-2-5. from another thread you can see 10 sticks and all of them do over 250, although it is not guarantee at 500.... but it tested under 500

Gskill technical support suggest using windows memtest instead of memtest86+. Why? They said it can give sometimes errors (mine gives few errors every time). My Ocz El Platinum rev2 dual memory modules dont give any errors...

In Windows, I also tried rmms (RightMark Memory Stability Test). I got few errors after two minutes. So these sticks must be faulty?

Im quite disappointed about gskill technical support in Europe. I havent got much help from them.

The 2GBZX & 2GBHX IC is different (Tech's words)..

Same here windows Memtest is alot better. Detects errors when 86+ doesnt.

i use dos memtest to ensure that my memory is stable enough to make it into windows, if you are failing dos memtest and you still go into windows you can have lots of fun with corrupted hard drives.

If you run dos based memtest first you can at least hope to keep your windows install, and then use other stability programs from there to be 100% about your overclock.

well under memtest86+ is good but not the best!
i had many experience that memtest86+ gives error but under winodws is 100% stable. or memtest86+ is good but windows can't even load....

i had ran my old 1GBFF with 2.5-3-3-5 pass memtest86+ for 24hr without error but can't even boot into windows...

but if you have error under windows memtest, most the time it is bad!!
also i will inform G.Skill Europe about it. thank you for your advice

I run 4 hours Prime95 and everything was ok. I tried once again HCI memtest...http://koti.mbnet.fi/seas/gskill2.JPG, I forwarded this to Eurotech@gskill.com and they suggested to send RMA Request Form to G.Skill. I'll let you what happens.

Hey gs tech, i was just wondering what some baseline settings for these with the RDX200 are. Ive had a hell of a time getting them to run with it and ive searched a lot of threads on these IC and cant seem to find much.

To my knowledge this has never been confirmed and was our assumption given the extreme similarities in performance of the good batches of ZX and other CE-6 memory.

G.Skill tested my memory but they didn't find anything. They used DFI NF4 Ultra-D with a Venice 3000 processor. Anyway, they send me a new kit and this one seems to work properly. No errors in memtest. The whole RMA process was very fast, it took only 2 weeks to obtain a new memory kit.

Today I received another set of 2GBZX from Newegg (for another build). To test them out, I took my first set out and popped these in without changing a setting. Happy to say they passesd memtest, OCCT, pi32m, and a short run of prime at 254 fsb @ 3-3-2-5-1T @ 2.7v. However, they were flakey in 3d gaming. The machine would stutter, sometimes longer than others. I had one instance of a freeze that lasted about 10 seconds, I thought it was dead but just as I was about to reset, it came back to life. Very strange, I've never seen that before. More voltage (2.8v) made things worse.

They are currently running 2.5-3-2-5-1T @ 229 fsb @ 2.7v stutter free. I bought these for $163 AR shipped from Newegg. They will work fine for me, as I could care less about benching, and gaming is supersmooth regardless of the high memory fsb. The tighter timings make up for lost ground there......

^I have nearly the exact same settings as you :) Timings get surprisingly tight, I run 234 with 2.5v, 2.5-3-2-6 with awesome secondary timings (BH-5 style) DS/DDS of 8/1, tref 4196. And on top of that, my CPU clocks ~30MHz better than when I was running my UCCC for some reason :confused: Max seemed to be a little under 250 with 3-3-2-6, no 3D problems encountered yet :) Glad to see these are doing better than the 230-240 that I was expecting.

Im currently running the HZ which is solid at 273 1-1 on an Ultra D and just bought a 1G set of there 4400 1GBLE to test as well. Very nice stuff indeed.

^I have nearly the exact same settings as you :) Timings get surprisingly tight, I run 234 with 2.5v, 2.5-3-2-6 with awesome secondary timings (BH-5 style) DS/DDS of 8/1, tref 4196. And on top of that, my CPU clocks ~30MHz better than when I was running my UCCC for some reason :confused: Max seemed to be a little under 250 with 3-3-2-6, no 3D problems encountered yet :) Glad to see these are doing better than the 230-240 that I was expecting.

I also use 3684 for my HZ and I have it running smooth so far at 273 1-1 1T at 2.79v with good active cooling.

Hey, also make sure to try 2.5 or 2.6v, and test all drive strength from 4/1-8/3 (just go to 240 or something and see which lasts longest in memtest for windows). another tref to try is 4708

i am using DFi Ultra-D with bios 704-2bta

the dram drive strength is not called anymore level 7 and so on but instead normal3 , normal4 ....

so which value is the best for the ZX ???

and are there better settings than the one posted by the GS.Tech on the second reply ?

I know the 2gb zx are not guaranted for more than 200mhz but I don't understand why I have running mine @ 255mhz 2.7v 3-3-2-5 (that was the max) and for 24/7 I have used them at 242mhz 2.6v 3-3-2-5 with 166 divider during three month at least , but since two weeks I suffer of 3d instability at these settings , I never put more than 2.75v because it gave me error in memtest so overvolting can't be .

I have to run them at 233mhz now to keep 3d stability!

Is there any explanation for this big frequence lost?

here is a screenshot of a64 tweaker , I put Level 7 and level 3 for drive strenght and data drive strenght, if I change one setting I'm not able to boot anymore.

I have tried other bios (a beta one from tony aka bigtoe) but didn't solve the issue.

I will run memtest (windows version) with stock speed and report what.

I have run this setup during three month as in my sig , all was fine (ram was able to hit 255mhz 3d stable), don't understand what's going wrong in my setup.

Have you tried single sticks to see if one has lost its mind? Are we looking at auto-detected memory timings? Can you get through the built-in Memtest on the mobo? The MAL and RP look .... strange.

that is totally no good i think....
7/x & 8/x are only good for Ultra-D & SLI-DR
for Expert and Venus you need to use 4/x 3/x or even 2/x
but that just my idea

No I don't yet try with one stick but last night I run memtest during 3h00 without any error and yes these are the auto settings from bios , some are defined when others are on auto like the MAL and the RP.

I think you put your finger on the issue ,

I'm now using drive strength level 4 and data drive strength level 2 with succes to pass SPI 32M @ 2.9ghz/242mhz like before, I will run prime95 tonight and see if all is ok.

Ok after some deeper test, it's seems that I was running bad "drive strength" settings ( strange that it took me 3 month to disovered it , I had encoded dvd with no problem only 3d got trouble this last two week)

Upgraded my bios recently after running this ram kit since the day they came out with zero problems.

I figured out the problem with the new bios was that i could'nt set any ram settings to auto i had to set them all manually for it to work fine.

This was ok i changed everything and i got into windows ok and seems stable but i was curious about two settings which i honestly dont know.

Ive read the first 15 pages and googled a bit but hoping for a more decisive answer.

I need to know the default (best) settings @ default pc3200 speeds for these two settings.


dram drive strength
dram data drive strength

Guys, I am moving on to 2 gigs of RAM from my beloved BH5 OCZ VX memory. Are these sticks the best when it comes to tighter timings? I dont need high FSB just around 250 or so.

My sticks can't get around 250 Mhz withou errors. I do not recommend this model if you plan to use 250.

Yeah I had a set that did 247 a few weeks ago but not 250

But I just bought another set and I'm selling the teamgroup infineon that I got in the meantime because I need cash

Initial results with cas3 were looking OK, I got a pass of 3d01 at 246. This was after booting with tras2 and trp6 though, then switching them in a64 tweaker which always seems to take away stability.. either way this cas2.5 run is farther than my team pc4000 infineon would do, but they seem to do less on cas3. I'd rather run 2.5 anyway :D and the $50 that I make is gonna be nice

edit: btw I know I didn't show much in terms of stability testing, but from experience I've seen that a pass of 3d01 is all it needs.

Hey GS technician, I read somewhere that later Infineon dies don't like CAS3.. is that true? Seems to be the case with mine, CAS3 only gets about 3-5MHz over CAS2.5. I'm still very happy with that, puts it right in range of the 150 divider at 2853MHz :D 239 ram mhz there

Go for 1:1 clocks to find the max, and use less than 2.6v. Try trfc to 14, drive strength to 8/1 for starters

It didn't help. It seems I found max of my memorys at 221 MHz ;(

Make sure you guys use active cooling on these and all Infineon sticks. I've been running without a fan for the past couple weeks, and it works OK until you start priming and they get really hot! Actually I just got 2 BSOD's on bootup after a long prime session, broke down and stuck a 120mm fan on there and no BSOD at next boot

Priming away at 2925 1.4v! :woot:

edit: you guys know if these like normal or weak better? I only really have 2 options, 7 and 8 drive strength as all others don't boot or are unstable. They seem to be about equal so far though :confused:

6,5 oh well :) not a really big difference

Hopefully the turning on the Dyn. Counter will get me more stable. Currently dual priming. . .
