i'd say 900/1200, according to reviews on 870/1200 the 5850 almost the same as 5870 stock..
My XFX with MSi bios runs 940/1200 with small voltage bump to 1.13V Hits 72C at 29% fanspeed on auto.
Now if only I could Overclock without getting the 2d Idle causing flickering...
Seems that with latest MSi afterburner theres a hidden option to enable OCing past STOCK BIOS's
Link: http://hwbot.org/article/news/msi_af...ass_ccc_limits
I may flash back my stock XFX and test this out.
Aren't voltage requirements different for every chip?
Anyone have a 5970 watercooled on a full-cover block? Would like to see your temperatures & voltages!
:)
Here's screen shot clocks are a lil less but its where I like it. I had time for just the 5 minutes or so but I had it going for 1 hour last night and it was fine. Been gaming and no crashes.

I have a question. I flashed my Sapphire 5850 with Asus bios, but Smart doctor 5.51 not work, it gives me an error: "can not find video cards information". Is there any way to fix this? AFAIK when the card is flashed with Asus bios, Smart doctor should work?!
maybe try an older version like 5.48? Does gpu-z read bios sub-vendor ID as ASUS?
No, jaredpace wants to know how to push voltage to 1.6v like me!

kpablo & OCnub - Those are some sweet rigs. WOW!~
Would someone mind PM me the stock Sapphire 5850 bios; my HDD with my backup just died and I'd like to go back to stock now that afterburner works with other vendor's cards as well? :)
You can find it here: http://techpowerup.com/vgabios/57585...24.090916.html
This is good to know as the MSI/ASUS overclock BIOS doesn't work on my XFX 5850, the prob is that with these BIOS, I get random crashes when I try to resume from S3 sleep mode. Crash happens about one time in ten (90% of the time sleep mode resumes normally). Any BIOS that trashes sleep mode is absolutely worthless, so I was forced to go back to the stock XFX BIOS. So far, no crashes with stock BIOS.
It's great that MSI AB now fixes the lame "can't overclock" restriction on the XFX boards, but there is still an important design defect with all 5850 boards: thermal downclocking. This "feature" doesn't do a damn thing except limit the OC and/or cause excessive irritating fan noise. It doesn't protect the card AT ALL. Maybe someone can find a fix for thermal downclocking, I figure I'm losing about 80 Mhz of GPU clock because of it.
kpablo, the x58-920 does a bit better at the same cpu speed, your cpu scored higher, also the 8x pci-e freq is hurting the score on the p55. One of my cards is a crappy clocker so unable to test with the same gpu clocks as you.
http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/4...ge4200mhz2.png
Added some voltage to the cards and ran it again at 4ghz cpu, 1025mhz gpu and improved the score a bit.

hi.,i have sapphire 5850 card.,can someone tell me how to flash the unlocked bios.,n which bios is the best.,asus or msi..tq
I can't confirm this myself because I had already flashed my 5850's BIOS before Afterburner 1.4 came out. I guess I could flash them back to stock to check it, but I have no interest in doing so right now as everything is working just fine. I don't plan to flash them back to stock until I get ready to sell the cards. Just repeating what I've heard, there's a guide somewhere that tells how to unlock it in Afterburner.
guys, I get a HD5850 XFX XXX
no problems running at this clocks, need 1.21v ("unlocked" MSI afterburner)
http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/9937/3dmarko.jpg
I think 1GHz+ is possible with 1.3v...
..but, powerplay doesn't work, so the only way to use higher clocks than CCC limit and keep the Powerplay working is flashing antother BIOS?

Will give the beta's a try for sure.
The only bad thing i discovered about the 9.11 beta 5 is not reading well the sensor of the 2nd vcard in 2d mode... it does not recognize, until you run a 3d app, then when you go back to 2D mode, then does not work again...
Can't wait to test the improvements with official 9.12 drivers... :D
Is that real ?? 9.11 beta 5 so much faster than than the 9.11 full ??
Joining the club grabbed 3x HD5870 Sapphires. Starting with 2x HD5870 tests first though. Starting to push the clocks on 2x HD5870 in Vantage for Win 7 Ultimate 64bit.
100% fan speed voltages and clocks set in MSI Afterburner v1.41:
- 975/1263 at 1.187v
- 985/1263 at 1.212v
@985/1263 noticed that part way into Vantage bench, GPU2's fan speed drops out of 100% speed to 50% fan speed = end result GPU2 is 9C hotter at 63C peak versus GPU1 at 54C peak temps. GPU score seems a bit low ????

Took some photos of 2x HD5870 CF setup on Asus P6T6 WS Revolution (supports 3x PCI-E x16 slots for PCI-E #1, #3 and #5 slots). I grabbed my DFI UT X58-T3EH8's longer flexible Crossfire connector bridges as DFI UT X58-T3EH8 has double slot spacing for CF. Wasn't sure if I need both bridges for 2x HD5870 CF as there wasn't any difference in scores really for 1x vs 2x bridges I don't think. Last photo compares the longer crossfire connector bridge with the standard one.

A new BIOS version (035264) for 5870 with some bug fixes is up here.
But sadly, the unlocked version is corrupted (incorrectly unlocked I assume).
Is anyone willing to provide a correctly unlocked one please (this 035264 version, or a later one)? I'd greatly appreciate it.
Or teach me how to unlock it properly, and I will (not via RBE, obviously).
Thanks!
You can unlock it via MSI Afterburner, modifying a hidden feature.
The BIOS is nice, it also fixes some eyefinity glitches.
Just wish the unlocked version worked... I flashed the normal one, getting some reports about the unlocked version being broken, and RaBit says that CRC failes for that one, so I am waiting for someone to unlock it properly so I can OC with it as well.
Apparently unlocking is easy, just need some special ATI tool.
Check this thread.
by Garrett_Wu.Quote:
We used ATI official tool that provide to AIB to modifiy the BIOS setting and BIOS is digitally signed by ATI, sorry the tool can't be released publicly. And yes, we will apply it to MSI 5850 (also 2nd shippment of 5870, and future 5700 series).
I don't wanna register there just to ask them to unlock this BIOS, I'm sure there are more people here who have it and are willing to unlock the BIOS for us.

Okay, so right now i am using afterburner 1.41 and i can clock it to about 1050 and 1200, and slide the voltage all the way across to max, now is it actually using that much voltage, or is it still stuck at the default voltage?
It wouldn't be stable at the default voltage, so pretty sure it uses that much.
If i can get that high, then what would be the benefit of flashing to another bios, say msi or asus? Is there any? i have the xfx black edition .
benefit would be having powerplay active and clocks & voltage lowering during 2d & idle.
i'm sucking my thumb atm..this...errr i mean your clocks are as insane as what i think hell looks like..i'm capping off to 1000/1300 atm with 1.225v more than that even with a tad of voltage i can't push through..
Do we have a working way to commit clocks, voltages, and fan control settings to bios? RBE doesn't seem to support 5850 yet.
900/1200 @ 1.15v seems about the max for my card. core can go higher, but needs way more voltage, so i'll just leave it at 900 for now :/
How do you think the score tale 5870CF and wound on the 4.5Ghz CPU

To overclock the card without having to flash its Bios, I use two apps:
1) AMD GPU Tool for clocks & voltage.
2) MSI Afterburner for 100% fan, and fine tuning the Voltage.
