All this is what you get for starting a nice build log and then just stopping. Some of these people may be showing up at your flagship soon if you don't start putting some loot for display up here.
Cpt you made my plank hard from those pics. Keep it up buddy.
Love to see the Captain getting a hard time. This is a rough group - but know, we only cry for more because we know it's gonna be good - no, make that great!
This build is amazing, and your photography is top notch. Seriously the photo of your photobooth is better than photo's i've seen of peoples whole computers
Feser called and said that because of this build taking so long they stopped making their radiators.
It's a bummer. Reflexion and the Black Freighter must have crashed into one another and sank to the bottom of the ocean...
so lets drag these ships back up shall we??? feed me!
Cheers Everybody! :D :toast:
A quick and tiny update!
I'm currently in the middle of working out the details on creating an instrument panel which will be mounted behind the mobo tray.
Here's a quick shot of how it looks behind the tray.
http://lh6.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/S-...4/IMG_6067.jpg
I also had a small rattle-canning session with the port windows:
http://lh4.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/S-...4/IMG_6078.jpg
That's all for this update, me hearties. I'll be posting more of my progress soon! Thanks for checking in!
I've been watching this log since you started and all I have to say is, more pictures captain!
*licks the captain* YAY!!! You win a bottle of rum! *druels over PC*
~Bex
Ahoy there young ma.... ahhh crap, i'll just say it normally! Awesome stuff!
Capt is back with the treasure.
More pic of it please. This sailor needs more insight to capt's plan.
I have been watching this build for quite some time now and I just have to say, you sir are an amazing craftsman. Kudos to you Flint awesome build! Cant wait to see this completed!
Me too, I switch off between this build, and watching paint dry. ; )
updates?
o captain, my captain?
Captain! Duty Call! eeer ... reporting for duty sir!
Maybe he's lost out at sea......
over a month ... come on guys don't give up on ur builds!
SPLIT YOUR LUNGS WITH BLOOD AND THUNDER
WHEN YOU SEE THE WHITE WHALE
sorry, had to.
Wow...
I can't tell you how many work hours I spent reading through this log.
...it was so worth it. Great work you've done here, Captain.
Btw, 26 pages is a lot of worklog for a work in progress
Hey Cap'n, just bumping this thread to remind you and others how effing awesome this build is! Please continue it :D.
I think the good captain has sailed off of the edge of the world. He hasn't posted an update or comment here in over 1 1/2 months. Could also be that Davy Jones finally got him.
-edit-
I just saw that he posted yesterday in Callen's log. Maybe not all hope is lost...
Ahoy Captain,
Us scurvy scallywags require updates.
<3,
Your loyal crew
ps. hope you havent walked the plank or come down with a serious case of sea sickness.
I think the sharks got him!
It is disturbing ... The Captain is maybe suspended at the very top of the mast and he cannot comes down any more, because he feel dizzy !
I think the good Captain has gone to Singapore, either that or Tortuga
I've lost the faith on this log, and on reflexxxion... but I've followed them since the beginning of each. I think these builds would be finished if each builder had enough time to devote... but sadly the dreams of both of these builds have proven to be a little too ambitious it seems. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm not.
Lost faith?!!
I gained inspiration!!!! Seriously 25 pages of creativity. This log & Shazza's are the reason I have a case behind me all cut up and wondering what happened.
Be it because of burnout, financial restraints, wife/kids seeking attention...whatever - Thanks captain. Regardless if you are done w/ project or not it is one of the more fun logs and I appreciate your sharing.
well said o2bme !!!
+1
Agree - well said o2bme (and thank you for the kind words).
I can't speak for the Captain, but I'm pretty sure it's a matter of work and real life taking priority for a period. It's not unusual for an ambitious build to take quite a long time - especially if it's not your main day-to-day rig, and if you're trying to learn new skills and also set high standards for yourself. Also, when modding is truly a hobby - and not how you make a living - it often must take a backseat to life's other demands.
Sometimes people just need a break. Often, this allows one to "zoom out" and see the big picture. As is often the case in life, one can lose objectivity when too close to something or working relentlessly to achieve a goal. Sometimes a break and a little time away not only refreshes one's perspective but also leads to breakthroughs that perhaps may never be realized had the person worked continuously.
IMHO, there need not be external pressure applied here. Creation is a process - a journey if you will and the best we can do as members of the Community is to be supportive of one another with the hope of bringing out the best in each other.
Or we can just gather outside his house- banging pots and pans till he finally comes out and agrees to get back to work on his build! :eleph: :)
Y'argh well we best keep scrubbing his boat and keepign it in ship shape for his return or he'll walk us all off the plank! Capt'n don't like a slacker or mouthy sea dawg!
He be hunting trease on thee island so he have a bigger treasure in the end!
~Bex
I can't even put myself in the same league with most of you, but you all inspire many people to do better. Thanks for that and I hope this build lives on.
come on captain hope u havent forgotten about us!
it seems that our captain has left the ship, is any chance to get him back?
Not likely soon. It's an inspiring project, but unfortunately it is incomplete... Like so many projects around here... It's upsetting to me because I follow a lot of these builds and become sad when they fizzle out.
but if this project comes back to life I'd be right here supporting it again ;)
I heard a rumour that there might be an update in the works. Fingers crossed! ;)
i sure as hell hope so. Captain has been away at sea way to long.
Knock Knock
I gota......
Who's there?
Sent from my X10a using Tapatalk
rumor has it theres things in the work.
thats all im saying.
Cant wait captain !!! :)
This is torture... but i want to say thank you .. you have opened my eyes to what is possible if there is enough will and talent..
Thank you for providing us with over 25 pages of inspiration ! :)
Cheers and kind regards..
Every time his thread has a new post I click and get let down.
you've gotta get let down to get picked back up.
just sayin.
very true
Question Captain:
What kind of paint did you use on the D5s? And also what kind of reservoir and reservoir holder is that? My multioption 250 and EK holders are not playing nice...
i always get excited when i see that theres an update to this thread. was hoping that Captain's boat had come to port. alas, he must still be out sailing the seven seas. hopefully he wasnt the one to find out that the world really is flat and that you fall off of the edge once you sail past the horizon.
Me too :) Something cooking for sure:yepp:
Now its up to the captain of the pirate ship to save our souls.. SOS Cap.. :D
Sincerely appreciate the feedback and continued interest. I know erosion or watching paint drying is much more exciting (Truthfully, folks. I thank you!).
Sorry I'm late (no really).
Was out pillaging with me mates (working at the grind).
Failed at several attempted U-turns in me ship (seriously, have you tried blowing on a sheet with holes in it?).
Jumped ship to get here sooner (ok. That's a lie. Starcraft 2 was released.).
Succeeded in getting meself caught in a riptide and thusly unable to return to shore (got stuck in L.A. traffic. A skill I've apparently mastered).
Concluded me Michael Phelps-Olympic style strokes (panic-stricken, thrashing-frenzied, doggie paddling) wasn't getting me anywhere, (this realization took months - hence the belated post).
Climbed into a dingy randomly floating by (they do that).
Paddled toward shore (hopped on the diamond lane).
Me dingy capsized (got a flat).
Finally dragged me weary body ashore to find meself eyeball to eyepatch (thanks kai) with a horde of pissed off natives (a motorcycle cop gave me a damn ticket riding solo in the diamond lane. Apparently putting me pirate hat on top of the rig which was riding shotgun looks NOTHING like a real person).
Performed several valient attempts to bring this update to fruition (whoa. big word. thanks thesaurus.com).
No but really, after much debate, planning, hints, lies, allegations, things left unsaid and failed execution attempts, I've finally mounted the port windows in a way I can label it a success.
(Seriously at this point, I'm as unsure why I'm writing all this as you are reading it.)
Perhaps I should just update more often to spare you these outlandish (but very true) stories I have disclosed thus far.
I used the Roto zip to create the circular cut on the chassis:
http://lh3.ggpht.com/_QLiEm5wyerY/TK...4/IMG_6304.jpg
I was flying to Las Vegas for work a couple of months ago and I was delightfully chosen to be one of the few pulled out of line to have me backpack inspected (Yes. Pirate's have Swiss Army laptop backpacks).
Airport security at Burbank, California had to run it through the X-ray machine a couple of times, reinspecting it, running it through again,
reinspecting, running it through, etc. while holding up the line.
Meanwhile, the co-workers were all cleared and waiting going something like, "What in God's name...?"
At this point, a crowd of security officers have gathered inside my comfort zone and one turns to me with her wafting malodorous breath situation and says, "We can't find it, but it's showing up on the Material Detection Scanner display".
"Can't find what?" I ventured.
"A weapon." they said in THX surround without blinking.
My stomach shot up to my throat.
"I beg your what?" I managed.
After what must have been the 10th time of me tornado digging through my backpack and finding nothing, there it was.
Buried deep within a secret pocket located underneath the bottom lining, there was the compass which I thought I had lost years ago.
In a nanosecond, all of security just *snap* disappeared except one saying, "You're clear" while handing the compass back to me.
"I can keep it?"
"Yes. Have a nice flight."
The lesson: If you can't find your compass, run your backpack through your local airport security scanners.

The side panel being outfitted for a gaping hole:

To prevent bit drift I employed this useful, little guy - the centerpunch aka Manny Pacquiao:

Setting up the RZip's circular cutting tool:

About halfway, I tripled check to see we were gtg. I must've measure pretty well since it was spot on:

Had some deburring ahead of me:

This box of 8-32, black oxide screws will help me mount the window to the chassis on both sides:

Lining up the screws with the window on one side:

Mounted the portholes on both sides of the panel:

Mesh was just a "prop" to make it look a little more um...more... meshlike?
Dunno if it will remain there for the final situation:

The only decent shot I had of it mounted on the inside. I'll post more internal pics showing other angles later:

Next update should include my shenanigans in creating an instrument panel on the other side of the motherboard tray.
Until then, thanks for dropping by!:eleph::eleph::eleph:
...and yet, here we are a month after your post with no update. ;)
...until
:wave:Ahoy Cpt., nice update. :D
The ship ran out of rum a long time ago and the crew got down right unbearable, so I abandoned ship. . .need to hit port and restock! ;)
LOL. Glad you're back Cpt! Great use of the rotozip, I had no idea there was a circular cutting tool.
Keep the entertainment flowing, your creativeness is always enjoyable to read.
One of best worklogs is back, nice.
While I wont humor the pirate talk going on in this thread I will say, Congrats to see you back on board with this project. The window turned out great and I cant wait to see what you have in store for us.
Welcome back Captain. Coming along very nicely. :)
I've had my mod fix for the day. I feel much better now. I need to get another Rotozip. Mine died.
At least I'm not the only one who isn't getting his mod done according to a measurable timetable...
This is especially aggravating for me given that I've got to go out of town this weekend for 2 weeks, and my Quintessence mod just got nominated on Bit-tech for mod of the month, so I have no time to further my mod for the MOM. Figures.
Mod fix? After this long term prohibition, I almost OD'ed after seeing this !
Amazing update Cap'n. If you can, keep them coming :D!
In the mean time, how about some rum?
http://www.esquire.com/cm/esquire/im...b-78812774.jpg
Great to see you back at it Rick; nice update! :)
Alexandr0s: Wrong volume. Make it barrel, then we speak :)
It's alive. WB
Yes it's back
What camera do you use? a DSLR one?
Captain!! I see your back...
Now that's what I call an update coming from a ehem drunk pirate
Is that a porthole? Freakin' sweet.
badboyze
:D
Clad to see you back captain! I'm sure you're thirsty after that long and exhausting journey, so go ahead and take a zip or two!

Merry XMas Cpt. hope you aren't a drift in a harsh sea. Hope the new year brings more amazing updates for us scallywags.
Arrrggh, best be letin' the Black Freighter lay with the HMS Endeavour me thinks. :(
Glad your back, u were missing for months on end hehe, hope you havent taken off on us again :D
It's A L I V E ! ! ! ! ! ! !:banana3::rocker::toast2::bows:
Eagerly awaiting updates.
any news? :D
damn it. ive been off the site for a bit, i check my sub'd threads and got excited for a minute....
son....i am disappoint
Any updates, Cap'n?
Hello?
Anyone?
abandon ship!
a wayward seagull brought me tales from overseas. the captain hasn't called abandon ship just yet ;)
Lol @ bump :lol2:
Apologies me hearties, been sorting out some personal issues, but I do intend to finish this build!
I know a single pic may not justify months of absence...but
1.) it's better than remaining silent
2.) it's better than nothing
3.) always trust a pirate
4.) see number three
5.) I like typing out lists
6.) seriously why is there an angry midget knocking on my door right now?
7.) why is number four missing from this list?
8.) made
9.) you
10.) look
....Anyway, me heartfelt apologies to anybody following me little worklog.
While I do intend to finish this build, circumstances surrounding me lately have caused it to go at a much slower pace than desired.
But I do have me sights toward the horizon.
Albeit the waters be rough, weather be inclement and some angry midget keeps yelling "Git 'er done" in my precious ears,
I am still having fun with this build and learning great things along the way.
That's been the two biggest motivating factors in steering this ship homeward. :eleph:

http://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_QL...4/IMG_5551.jpg
More soon!
:eleph:
Lotsa radiators, yay!!!
Btw, why a different type of fan for each radiator? Did you have those lying around?
Ow, and nice troll list !
Life has a way of persistently getting in the way of fun, doesn't it? Among other things, it seems there is always something tearing up that needs fixing.
Hey Captain...if you cant finish the build, feel free to send it my way and ill pick up where you left off.
Im curious...are you the only member of Seal Team Six that wears an eye patch? That could explain why you've disappeared for so long
wow such photo skills, such slick pictures :)
Wishing you the best on completion!!!!Quote:
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells;
Rise up—for you the flag is flung—for you the bugle trills;
