Is the Infinity as fast as the NF7-S per clock in 3DMark?
Well I am going to set mine up today, using some crucial pc3200 1800+ jixib dlt3c. Also some hyperx 3200 bh5, and a slk900a.
Will put up some results later.:D
as fast or faster.:)Quote:

I like hearing that. :)
Think I could probably nudge 110 Car High if I had 2550MHz with one of those underhood.
The NF7-S will be doing 106+ as of Sunday. :toast:
hi guys,i'm an italian boy with an7 and barton 2500+ AXDA "Y" AQXEA...
i overclock my system at 200x11...on my precedent NF7-S this oc was held with vcore and vdimm default,i think it would be the same thing on this mobo...i run a lot of super-pi tests,3dmark and pcmark and the system appears stable(with vcore and vdimm default)but when i try to play at Need For Speed Underground the game throws me out of the game....moreover 2 times the system crashes and restarts up by itself...
are these symptoms of instability of mobo??
Yep. Trademark AN7 stability. :(
The BIOS that 'fixes' this will probably neuter performance so bad that 166 will smoke it.
my problem is that my precedent NF7 one evening died,so i buy the AN7 but some days later the NF7 was changed on warrant...so now in my system i have the An7 but i also have a new NF7-S still in the box!!!
another thing:what does it mean the '48' code on Post Code display?
Haha, I had 48 on my display too, as well as a jumping 20 - 21 in Windows. Those numbers are not listed... But since everything else is fine...well almost..
Hopefully that siren goes off, if you set the Guru properly in Windows, afterwards even when booting from powered off state. There are no fans attached to my An7, CPU an NB are watercooled. But you have to go through the installation of windows, to get rid of it.
I am no extreme overclocker, but I am currently running 218x11.5 FSB with CI on, and have VDD of 1.75 set. Did some testing, and I sometimes (maybe twice in an hour) get throwing-back-to-desktops, when playing an UT mod called TacticalOps.
On my earlier Leadtek NF2, I fixed this by upping the VDD to 1.9Volts in Bios, 1.75Volts seem to be not enough for my 218... and I definetely need a VDD-mod and that is odd.
Southbridge will be cooled by a Zalman passive sink, cause it's at 65°C without, as well as the Mosfets running a whopping 85°C when stressing the CPU@1.84
Anybody did get the firewire bracket? I do need it for my front-panel, but I did not find it in the box.
Bye,
Don
I just noticed that my AthlonXP 1700+ DLT3C is now identified as a Duron with only 64kb lvl2 cache.
Running at 218x11.5-> 2500@1.84Vc.
I had this CPU running for about 6 months on another mainboard from Leadtek and was running fine. Never got over 45°C diode temp, cause I am on watercooling. Guru told a temp of 30-33°C, which I really didn't believe...
I've got a Duron-ID everywhere I check now, Bios, dev-manager, CPU-Z, it reports only Duron-sized cache.
Cause of the Guru-post screen, I did not know exactly when this happened, I stumbled across this accidentally in the dev-manager.
What happened here? Did the AN7 fry my cache? I am in lack of another mainboard, maybe somebody could tell me, if this is a mainboard problem?
Thx,
Don
Only thing I can think of is you either need to clear the CMOS or that you have got either condensation or AS3 on some of the CPU Bridges.Quote:

I've tried several things, the cpu is covered with tape as I use AS3, to isolate things, so it cannot be a short-circuit there. But I've checked the surface, it's nice and clean.
Did a reflash to bios12(without the annoying Guru-Logo on post), reset cmos, load default, and it's still a Duron. Went back to bios13 then, of course.. still a Duron.
I now only have the "user-define" FSB and multi settings. When I installed the cpu first, there was the option 1700+ and was properly identified and defined to its standards.
I think it really may have blown the cache...
But when I think about the profiles stored from the bios, will maintain even after a proper cmos reset (they even cover your GURU settings you made within windows), it could still be a board-bug misinterpreting pre-settings or whatever.
But I won't know until I checked the CPU in a different board, I'll guess.

someone can help me to choose my new memory set?now i have 2x256Mb of Adata DDR400 (not Winbond BH5) and i want to change them to improve the performance of my system...
at first i want to buy OCZ Pc3500 Limited ED with BH5 but i read somewhere that AN7 did not like this chip as the previous NF7...would it be better to purchase Kingston Xiperx PC3500 with Winbond CH5?
For the An7, the answer is YES and YES again.Quote:

Ch5 makes this board very happy and this is what was used to tweak the board, not BH5. I tried many sticks and only Ch5 make the board run fluid.
thank you very much!
so,what you suggest me to buy?Kingston?OCZ?
Yes the new Kingston 3500 is all CH5 now. I have run mine at 235 2-2-2-11 but it needed the full 3.20v to do it.Quote:

Still, that's pretty good for Ch5's. Normally they dig a TRCD of 3 only.
ok,thanks a lot!
i'll buy Kingston HiperX PC3500 and i'll try to bring my barton on the moon :toast: :p:
Faster :DQuote:

Already got 23567 3DMarks with 70MHz less :D
the last question:i noticed that there is a cut to one of the traces on the back of the mobo...why??
i've contacted Abit and they told me that this "improve performances and compatibility"....
it depends on this cut the problems of this mobo with high fsb or not?
Recieved a new AN7 right before Xmas to replace my 1st AN7. This one has no cut to trace on back of mobo or any hand solder resistor to back of mobo like 1st one. With cpu enabled interface 220fsb is tops for mobo. With cpu interface disabled 233fsb seems to be it. Works better with HyperX PC3500 ch-5, I beleive the memory is, over my Corsair XMS PC3500 bh-5 or the twinmos pc3200 with bh5 chips. I would like to know if anyone has figured out how to vdd mod the mobo for more voltage ?
When i had my first AN7 with the cut trace it would do 225 DC no probs till it took a crap.. That was with Mushkin 3500 Level 2 512MB x 2. I dont think its a BH-5 prob.. prob just a case of a bum memory module.
WEll this AN7 is going back I get post code 90. WIll not boot at all.
I now refuse to use abit anymore until this issue is fixed.
Hello all, I ordered the AN7, 2800+ Barton, Thermaltake W0010+PFC Silent Purepower 480W with Black housing - Xaser Edition ATX 2-Fan Power Supply, all from NewEgg and should be receiving them on Mon/Tuesday. I will be throwing in a ATI 9700 PRO/AIW, DVD,CDRW, and a stick of PNY 512MB PC2700 DDR333. I think this is the first time I have ever ordered a computer component without researching it first, and I am starting to think I have made a big mistake. This was a last minute gift from my wife on Christmas Eve so I just went to NEWEGG and ordered it up. So today I find time to read up on my purchase only to discover  I messed up. I planned on upgrading my ram but wanted to research this before I made my decision and am glad I have. I do not do alot of overclocking but do like to tinker around from time to time. I guess my question is how bad did I screw up?
I have been using ABIT MB for years and my current KR7A-RAID, XP 1700+ has been rock solid for 2 years granted it is a little outdated. Do you guys think this pig will even boot up with my old RAM .:D I am ready to purchase some good RAM for this system to take full advantage of the what I thought would be a great system. Any advice one may have would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to get 512mb/1gig, If I am a lucky and get a good AN7.
I also posted this in the ABIT info/supp forums, but this one seems more active.:toast:
Well hope you have better luck than me;)
Thanks, I already have a headache and I don't even have it yet.:rolleyes:Quote:

Mushkin 3500 L2 here, so i'm skeptical about the BH5 claims made here. 230 w/o cpu disabled
I haven't reached limits on this board yet. Stability is tested for at least 24hrs prime. At 20hrs now, 220 cpu enabled.
Vc is 2.0ish
Vd is 3.0ish
Has anyone found a monitor that works with this board? Or a way to disable the alarms in Abit's EQ? w/o unplugging the speaker :/
off topic: What's with the humping smiley's? creepy
check here ;)Quote:

thanks
now i'm doing the 220x11, cpu enabled 2days prime stable, 2-2-2-11
i think i'll shoot for more.
anybody tried an L12 modded processor??
which ram?Quote:

Looks like a new revision for this cursed mobo won't be coming anytime soon (if ever). From the official Abit Marketing Forum:

Mine sold, so I dont care. :D
When that $85 comes in the bank, I'll never need to lay eyes on this joke of a motherboard ever again. :toast:
What did you get Hallowed a DFI?
Going to.
LD I completely modded the NF7-S but couldn't get BIOS 10 to work at the time (when ambient was prime).
Chip was doing 11x234 though for most of the day.
So I have a backup board. The AN7 is funding the DFI and then I'll sell the NF7-S.
Yeah,
I looked at the DFI, but top vcore is only 2v. I heat many people can't even boot with a high FSB and 2v. They have to back it down to 1.85v in some cases so even a vcore mod won't help.
I need 2.1 to run my barton at 2525Mhz. The board does me no good. It has that N2 vcore/high FSB bug bad then.
I'd rather have high FSB. With this new Thermalright with the heatpipe, it can do 2500MHz with 1.93 (used to take 2.06 with an AX7 for 2470 MHz).
This heatsink is the §§§§ LD. All I did was lap it, Tarn-X dip the base, and then polish it with Mothers Mag Polish. Hell, at 11x200 1.675, it idles at 72 F. :)
*edit*
LD, check this:
http://martinmaas.home.comcast.net/holysheet.JPG
What is your room temp?
5c?
That heatsink will do about 15-20c above ambient depending on the thermal compound used.
Test it with a probe if you want the real temperature too.
Wow that's pretty darn good Hallowed.
Sheesh that's incredible really. 20 degrees C??
Ambient was colder than 60... 55 I think. Under load it holds 15C above ambient.
so does the Mach I still not work on this board? am thinking about cancelling my order and going with a DFI Infinity instead.. ty -Matt
my god after about 3 hrs of researching the problems with this board i promptly emailed newegg to tell them to change my order to the infinity board...
this An7 looks like my newest nightmare waiting to happen...
You made the right choice.. :D;)Quote:

Just to let you know I heard back from the Better Business Bureau
about my complaint about Abit and the An7.
Listen to this. They let me know they tried to contact Abit and NEVER got a reply back from them. Would you believe this company?
They think they are above the law and show it. They don't even bother replying to the BBB. They told me this would be noted in their record so anyone that wishes to know their reputation before doing business with them will know their history.
The case is not closed. I'm waiting to rehear from the Florida Attorney general on this. I brought this to his attention that no one is really regulating these products for quality assurance except the company themselves.
Just wanted to let you guys know what Abit's attitude is towards
us and this agency. I urge you all to vote with your wallet and let Abit's bottom line go to hell....
Sold mine and ordered an Infinity
Sold mine but PAYPAL is foobing around.
But it is sold! :D
I sold both of mine, bloody awful motherboards.
So glad I got this Infinity NFII Ultra. I think even 2v vcore will be enough to get my 1700+ to 2.8GHz, just waiting to get my Prommie fixed.
lol, your posts crack me up, you are one funny cat :DQuote:

Abit has a hard time even acknowledging that major flaws exist. Case in point: the multi prob that affects 95% of the NF7-S mobos (there's a 4 month old, 30+ page sticky thread at the Abit Forum with not a single reply from Abit admin.)
You see. Abit is a company that has NO REGARD or RESPECT for it's customers. Almost every single one of their boards has some sort of bug that doesn't affect the other boards using the same chipset. On top of that they charge you more for a "new board" just because it offers a higher voltages. They truly take advantage of it's users.
A simple reply from Abit on these issues is too much for them.
They are scared of admiting and getting sued.
I'm NOT going to let this issue with the AN7 go away. I'm doing my best to make trouble for Abit like they did for me and the rest of you affected.
Just the fact that they thumb their nose at an American agency
like the BBB and don't even reply to them after numerous attemps shows just what this company's attitude is towards other people and authorities.
They will NEVER make a penny off me again. I don't care if they have the latest greatest board out. I will buy Asus over them anyday. If we band together and NOT PURCHASE their product, then they will react. I say let's hurt them where it counts.
On top of that people themselves are noticing the horrible quality control of their products so I don't really have to rant. I know plenty of people that have written abit off altogether.
I'm talking to a lawyer who does pro bono work about a class action suit against them. I want to hassle them like they hassled me and my friends. The negative PR would be fabulous.
Hey tech how about some evidense - you got some pretty hard words and feelings against ABIT here.... and I'm just playing devil's advocate for proof.
This does not belong in this thread. If you want to talk about a problem with a company or :banana::banana::banana::banana: about anything related to this it should be in speak freely not in the hardware section. I suggest you make a post in speak freely for this so it can be deleted from this section.Quote:

I hate to dig up an old thread, sorry guys. :) Is anyone finding that this board reports CPU temperatures incorrectly? OC Guru is reporting temperatures in the high 60s, yet I can run Prime stable.
Well maybe your temp is that high, what cooling, CPU and clock speeds do you report this at? I haven't had any trouble with the uGuru on my board. And AMD is known for its ability to work stable at high temps, not like P4's that get as slow as a the traffic in central NY when the offices close down ;)
I'm running a XP 1700+ JIUHB with a SK-7 and 80mm sunon fan. I get the same general temp from 1.8-1.9V at 1980MHz (220*9)
holy ressurected thread batman!
Your overclock is pretty mild, and I my buddy had his stock 1900+ running high's 60-mid70 on an asus (which reports low).Amd chips are pretty tough like that.
I've got nothing personal against abit. When nf7-s 2.0 came out it was the shiznit, dispite it's problems. But they really    :banana:ed up the an-7... and they released a product that shouldn't have been released. (Sorry, you don't make a board, then run a razor over the traces you don't like). And it looks as though little has been done to solve it's problems. They were obviously focussing on intel and 64bit boards and just wanted to squeeze some more cash out of the xp enthusiasts. They wanted a board compairable with nf7-s with some added volts and features. What they got was a board that couldn't hold a candle to the origional nf7-s' and had problems coming out it's ass.
Has anyone measured the temps with a probe on this board, out of idle interest?
