wow
first look - awesome :D
second look - still awesome but :(, personally dont like liitle chaotical for me barbs spacing in mid plate
anyway its only my opinion ;)
Charles,
You have raised the bar yet again! Simply stunning!!
Rocky
What I love the most about this build is how absolutely seamless everything looks. It looks like it was factory made and planned that way from the beginning.
Yupp, that is definitely what I love the most about this build, everything just fits, doesn't look unnatural, and looks perfectly planned and engineered.
Congratulations are in order, but feel so small. I'm sure that we all wish we could say more, but accept our token words of gratitude and a nice thank you for bringing us along in the journey.
If you ever find yourself in my zip code, I'll take you to Gamla Stan and buy you a beer.
This will definitely be an inspiration to me for years to come.
it's ok :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
now excuse me while i pick my jaw up off the floor
Wow! Amazing build! Question... is there a lot of cursing involved putting 3/8 tubing on 1/2" barbs?
You know what the only problem with a build this perfect is? Out doing it!
You've truly not only set the bar but hurtled it into orbit. Absolutely mesmerizing!
Perfection. Unbelievable layout and design. Im floored by that!
For me it was a pleasure to watch this build from the first matalwork jobs to the finished system. The softbox lighting, individually sleeved cables and wires, the PLED screens in their individual mount, the SSD mounts and the uncompromising attention to detail make this murderbox a modding classic.
;o ;o ;o ;o ;o ;o give me moooooooooooooorrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !
Ok here's a question for the guy who's responsible for my now favorite build...
Charles how the heck do you know which wire goes where on the power connectors when you get them all pulled out of place and sleeved? I'm getting ready to start putting together a parts list for a TJ07 build and the one most daunting thing for me when thinking this build over is getting the sleeves on all the wires.
Masking tape, and a pen ?
If you do it often enough, you could even attach a small label to alligator clips and just clip one to each wire as a super-quick labeling method.
Thank you all for the generous comments; I’m frankly overwhelmed and blown away by your kind words of support and can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. :) :) :)
Project Update: The plan now is to ship the machine out on the 16th of July – by that time, Daniel will be home from his trip (I wish I could go too!). This will give me a chance to redo a couple of pics I’m not crazy about which is good. Also, I hope to create a short video – real basic really; just something to show it from a moving perspective. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted on that. :yepp:
My short term plan is to get on top of all the things that have had to take a bit of a back seat these past weeks. There is certainly no time to rest now and in fact, finalizing this build has rejuvenated me and I’m excited to get to work on new things. There are a number of custom builds on the immediate horizon – one called “pure|murderbox” that’s really going to be something. We’ve finally settled on a design concept after a year of tweaking. There was an early version displayed in the Fried Chicken thread but I can tell you it’s come a long way since then. Anyway, more on that later…
Yes indeed! Once I've selected the final, final photos, wallpaper versions will be made available.
Kibbs, I just want you to know that it was because of your suggestion that I went with "P-Clips" under the midplate instead of those square adhesive ziptie doo-hikeys... thank you Sir! :)
YES!
Especially when you don't heat the water enough, hehe. Originally, I was using the hot water from our water cooler thinking that was the way to go. After days of bit©hing and moaning to Kirk about it, he said "are you boiling the water?..." Then I used a microwave to boil water in a cup and they went on like butter (comparatively at least). You just need to hold the hose in for 30-45 seconds and the end softens up like a wet noodle.
Cheers. :)
My solution is simple - I leave a bit of the wire exposed so I see the color.
Rather than go over the metal connector, effectively concealing the wire completely, I leave the shrink a bit short. It's still concealed when it goes in the connector, it just means you have to take your time when doing each end so the sleeve doesn't pull the shrink further away. To remedy this I do one end at a time, let the shrink cool and then use small clamps to hold the sleeve tight and in place on the other end. This solution came to be when I found it easier to leave all the wires loose (not in their connectors) for routing and cable management. This works for everything; PCI-E, ATX 24pin and 8pin, Molex, etc. The only thing you have to ensure is that the one double orange on the 24pin (technically, one is referred to as brown) goes in pin 13.
I made some quick pics...
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/DSC_7313.jpg
I leave just a little bit of wire exposed. I know it's not as exciting as guessing which goes where but at this stage, I'm trying to reduce the drama in my life. ;)
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/DSC_7316.jpg
... Still goes into the connector and totally conceals the wire...
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/DSC_7323.jpg
Having a team means I can do 6 at a time. My dream is to one day have 24 clips... I know... stay realistic...
Cheers. :)
sweet tips
just one question why did you go through the effort of putting 3/8 tubing on 1/2 barbs ???
check your pm
I see pure murderbox :) cool stuff charles - thats a lot of modification to the thick tj07 shell methinks you will be custom fabbing a new shell this mod and that will certainly take it to a whole other level.
Hello Charles,
I am a little bit late to join the party, but I want to tell you that this build has something that will find its place in future computer designs. :) There's nothing better than your little ideas that come together.
For a dual loop system its amazingly "airy" in the upper section. That's a surprise to me and congrats on showing something different than expected! :) The lower section is fantastic, because it shows that without precise planning, the build would have been impossible. And now Charles: Make sure that it arrives well and enjoy your week of relaxation that you planned - you deserve it very much. Thank you for another very inspiring system!
I would like to know if anyone votes against another appearance on MDPC. Please let me know, because I don't want to be called "affiliated" when it comes to murderboxes from Charles :)
Maybe Charles should have his own section on the site? he certainly deserves a feature of the evolution of all his work in one place
I vote against another box on MDPC... because he is making everyone else look bad ! :D
Gr8 job charles, I hope one day I can have a beautiful build like that. Keep up the good work.
and also Post more Photos !! I never get tired of seeing your gr8 efforts :D
It's pure beauty. Awesome work!
Hmm ...... I have to think about that Nils ..... hmmm ....... :ROTF:
Of course that deserves to be there. It's not Charles fualt that he seems to outdo himself with each build he does. If a computer is that top notch, it shouldn't matter who built it, it deserves to be acknowledged. :yepp:
I agree with S_D. Why don't you just give Charles his own section. I surely think he deserves it.
Edit: Charles, too late on getting the wallpaper up. One of those photos has all ready found its way onto my laptop. I simply love the night shot of the Vancouver skyline behind the finished build.
Serious guys and girls :D
I really want that the people who are against it come up and say it - or that they never say it later on :)
You don't know that there are people out there that want to say "affiliated! murdermod-ad-website!" or similar. I just want to offer the people a chance to speak out now ... or never :)
Charles: The front section with the SSD-glow-holders and the displays looks like absolute "time-machine-future-computer-look" to me, and I bet that the future design of computers will go that way, when it comes to light and displays. Therefore I see it as a must to hammer it on its place in history forever. But as you also say: Let the community decide. If noone speaks clearly against it - giving reasons - until Thursday-night, I will show it on MDPC with new - yet never unveiled - photos. :)
The thing is, from now on, basically whatever computer Charles builds, it's going to be on MDPC, it's not your fault Nils and you're not "affiliated," it's just that every freaking single time the "god" out-do's himself, it's never going to stop! Seriously.
This computer/owner FULLY deserves to be on MDPC :)
There really is no doubt that this needs to be on MDPC. If Charles had simply built another fantastic murderbox with nothing new, that would be one thing (and I'd be happy to take it off his hands ;) ). But this goes beyond the previous builds, in too many ways to name. Can't wait to see new photos, and the video Charles mentioned.
you know what i love is
at the end of his gpu's that really cool looking 90 degree angle down to his res, priceless
charles - amazing job man
how did you get the lighting of the HD plates so even? It doesn't even look real its so uniform in color!
There is no doubt that this build belongs on MDPC and I eagerly await the never before seen shots that will be used for its premiere!!
Congratulations Charles on raising the bar yet again...I am really looking forward to the pure|murderbox :yepp:
Maybe there should be a stickey thread where just charles can post his awesome build pics there for everyone such that itd be a dedicated picture thread for charles
i think this should be on MDPC it is superb, a truely a +1 on all the other TJ-07's that are on MDPC
however i am quite sure this is now the pinnacle of TJ-07 and the case should get phased out of existence from this point forward
with this build i think it marks the point of "everything that can be done with a TJ-07 has been done" stop making the TJ-07 builds! and start with something new
Oh I think that he still has something up his sleeve and will manage to surpass this build with his next and until something better case wise comes out what else is there?
He has already stated that the next build is likely to be the pure|murderbox which was hinted at waaaaay back in Fried Chickens build but that it has evolved from those initial renders....btw the new pics/renders can't come fast enough as I think I am addicted
First: Of course it should be on MDPC
Second: Excuse the honesty, but this would make it the 3rd or 4th MB on MDPC? I think from a objective point of view that what would be best for MDPC is to create a separate section for Charles since that would help maintain your neutrality. We here at XS know that you want to remain so, and we also know that you have gone through a painstaking process and left it democratically up to the members here to vote on - but to the outside world or a viewer who stops by from another forum or location will just wonder why this Charles guy has so many builds on your site? Perhaps another solution would be to instigate a rule that any new build takes precedence over previous builds thus ensuring that at any time ONLY 1 BUILD from any single modder will be shown. Because in essence, everything that Charles has put into this build has been a culmination of his progress from the first days. To me that is what should be shown, because it is simply the best.
Third - Did I say already that it should be on MDPC?
New here at XS. :)
1º I have been following your work for a long long time and you are simply the best Charles. Congratz.
2º I agree with Dangals. TJ07 is simply put the best case out there and I am sure that Charles will manage to surprise us again and again.
3º Any questions that this project belongs in MDPC??? :D:D
I just stopped by to spend another full hour looking at the final build pics & reading through your final thoughts. very inspiring, to say the least.
You can't really be questioning whether or not this is an MPDC, can you? Never penalize someone for their affiliations, people will recognize great work when they see it regardless of where it comes from.
I dont think it Charles fault that he soo skilled at mods, this belong to MDPC and if he keeps in that pace, well then yea he probably need an personal section, but i dont think its hes fault that he keeps raising the bar.
The good thing is, this make people try to outcome his builds and bring improvement in the mods community.
Keep it up Charles.
Btw when we expect the new itens to show up on Murdermod page? im waiting for some stuffs to show up and order :)
Regards,
I think the reason the TJ-07 and more specifically the murderbox are so widely used in some of the best builds, is you already know a good part of what it's going to look like, especially on the outside. it's why you'll find that certain bodykits on certain cars tend to be the most popular (because they're the best/fastest way to improve the looks for the money). There's also not a lot of bodykits for computer cases (yet). as murderbox/murdermod is basically the 'go-to place' for that, no surprise.
now, if murderMod can do something for the Cosmos 1000 case, I might be in the market for it, but I think I'll take my chances and learn some stuff.
MDPC FTW. I do agree, this is a +1 on all TJ07 cases
probably a pain though. considering unlike the TJ-07 it has a front door, lots of funny plastic panels everywhere, etc.
but it would still be wicked. I think all I would want is a new backplate, since I'm gonna custom the rest of it.
oh, but a plate that went inside the case, where the quick-release things are for the optical bays, to clean that area up would be a sweet idea. I think I'm gonna try to pull that off (might fail horribly, might not).
ok kinda new here but pure murdermod ????????????????????????????????????????
Far out, took me 23 pages to find!
Here are the concept renders, if Charles can pull this off (Which I have no doubt he can) then......
http://murderbox.com/uploads/pmb.005.jpg
http://murderbox.com/uploads/pmb.006.jpg
^^^i just fainted.
looks good on paper but if there is a door then it sucks
this should have the bays done like this even if you have some kind of fancontroller
omg i just fainted that is the best thing i have seen come from charles
so everybody who posted after that image, either fainted or crapped their panties
Seems that way. I mean can you blame us?
No door - in another render that was done slot loading drives were hinted at hidden behind the new facade.
If you notice there are no Murderbox/Mod builds that use a fan controller showing in the front bays due to the faceplate making that impossible - plus they do not look good. Usually something like an Aquareo can be found hidden in the build somewhere which monitors temps and changes fan speeds appropriately.
yeah charles is going to come back and weve all fainted because of his renders
wow i come back and see that Charles is going above and beyond... I must say his skills have improved since the first murderbox. Seems like that was along time ago now.
I didn't go through the whole thread but good to see some familiar faces still here :)
And too the lucky owner of his new "BEAST" i must say i'm very jealous!!
Excellent work Charles !!
This is the money shot!
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/%20...derbox.008.jpg
Disruptfam
Nice to see you show up, disruptfam!!! Miss your build logs.
Oh yeah ... that "Pure" murderbox is kinda nice too ;)
Thanks for the comments Guys; I really appreciate them and your very kind words of support. :)
I was hoping to get a few new shots tonight but it’s very windy here and I’m thinking that placing the machine on the edge of the deck, 300 feet above the ground may not be the smartest idear. Perhaps if the wind dies down I can get some shots later – otherwise, I’ll try again tomorrow evening. Truth be told, the Zen Frog is very upset that he wasn't included in the final shots so in the hopes of not cursing myself, I better remedy that ASAP.
Oh, those pure|murderbox concept renders are very old and outdated. The new design is considerably different and IMHO, more dynamic. I know I brought up the pure|murderbox here but I’d like to keep this thread focused on Daniel’s murderbox if possible; cheers. :) There will be a worklog dedicated to pure|murderbox where all the thrills, spills, and broken drills will be well documented.
To all the Canucks out there - happy Canada Day. :)
gr8 job there charles  can't wait for that worklog. and for the record: the colour theme for daniel's rig is just what the doctor ordered :yepp:
If i'm gonna go for a murder mod case in the "very" near future I will be copying a bit from it.
A quick question : Where did you get/customize the SSD Blue frame?
Keep up the good job
WOW Charles this is an amazing build, Now I am sort of regretting getting my U2UFO and shouldve got a TJ07, Hows the cables management behind the MOBO Tray?
What an absoloutely inspiring build! I hope we can see more from you soon!
Another great build Charles.
Your level of detail is stunning, and I'm hoping we'll be able to grab those SSD mounts one day. :)
I absolutely loved watching this computer come to life! Its one of mother natures miracles..
Charles, I've been through your whole thread, reading everything (or quite everything).
Before coming to this thread, I thought you were making PC's for yourself, not for the others. And this "on demand" work your doing, is for me excellent. Excellent from a quality point of view, but also to share your work.
I find your ideas absolutely amazing. I just saw 3 of your rigs on MDPC. I found them beautifull, but a bit the same. I mean it's the same front-plate and top-plate, the invert-ATX, full sleeving etc. But now I "entered" a bit more in your work by seing all your pix you do while assembling the mod, I'm just over-astonished if I can say it that way (don't have the right word on the tongue right now :D).
So final words, congrats for this build, you made Daniel a really really really lucky guy!! It wouldn't have been the same pleasure for him to go in the shops and assemble it himself. During these 6 months, he saw the pixs, but couldn't touch the mod. And now everyone knows what a MM is, and he is gonna see it IRL. :)
Keep up the great work, and waiting impatiantelly for your next Mod!
love the build Charles!
any tips on how to do this?
Woooooooooow....
I think that the light panel can be done with some 2 0r 3mm white plexi, and 2 white cathodes. It should work well I think...
just saw the light panel! impressive
Thanks for the comments Guys, I really appreciate them. :)
Those are a design I came up with to incorporate 3-4 SSD drives, fill the front section out and essentially help visually balance the overall interior. They came after extensive trial and error and in fact are actually the "Plan B" design. "Plan A" worked in theory but came out at 98% aesthetically perfect which didn't cut the mustard. With a concept like this, IMHO - if it's not perfectly executed in fit and finish, it seriously detracts from the ultimate purpose and just becomes an uninspired lump of material. I've got Plan A on hand as a "close but no cigar" reminder. Its on a special shelf of its kind and I can say that I'll soon need a bigger shelf. :)
The cable management is quite good I think... you can see in the pictures posted on page 23. I ran most things along the top and bottom of the midplate and the back of the mobo tray really just had the 8pin eps and the 24pin ATX. Now the space between the the mobo and the mobo tray is a different story. There is so much wiring back there a flea would likely get stuck!
Cheers Peter!
We're most certainly working on new stuff. :)
Cheers!
We're working to make the TJ07 SSD mount structure available. It's designed for 4 drives and will be offered with a few lighting color choices. :)
Wow, I'm deeply flattered - Thank You. :)
I must say that I actually used the word mother many times while working on this beast... only the second word wasn't nature. ;)
Such moving comments; a sincere Thank You. :)
I've really enjoyed this process and as I've said previously, it would never have seen light of day had it not been for Daniel. The plan is to ship it out on the 16th of July - when he comes back from his trip. I truly hope that he get years of enjoyment from it.
Cheers!
Well, we're working to produce them so I'm afraid I'm going to stay tight lipped on how they're made ATM. Believe me, I struggle with what I can and can't say... I'd like to reveal everything but this is a business and I have to keep some things under wraps. :)
I will say that I spent a great deal of time on this concept and almost gave up on a few occasions. Our goal now is to develop and produce "universal" models that will be well constructed and very reasonably priced. Unfortunately, no word yet on availability.
Cheers CP!
ASAP is the best I can say... :)
Oh, two new pics!
http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/27.murderbox.008.jpg

http://www.murderbox.com/uploads/24.murderbox.008.jpg

I can easily set them as a desktop theme:toast:
Fantastic pix dude
Just a question for this light panel. Is there really gas inside it, or was it just a joke? :p: Cuz if yes, how do you make the fittings to pass through if there's gas...
And those 3 LCD displays, fantastic looking! Such a detail but sooo much better looking! ;)
waits patiently for charles to update store im going to end up with a lot of hardware lying around before i start my build . . . . . . . .
superb charles - you have outdone yourself - this is a work of art to say the least
def looking forward to the next MM you have on the backburner :D
Yeah this panel looks just soooo great!!
Take a few minutes to think about how YOU would do it, I know for sure how I'd making one of those, too bad there isn't much room to put something like that in a TJ09:(
@Charles: Any chance of us seeing those res mounts in the store anytime soon? I know that I've been asking after them a few times now but can you blame me, they are just so nice!
man, those pictures just get better and better. I hope this case makes MDPC. It should, or I'll have to hunt down DB with a shovel!
Charles, you have outdone yourself again  I don't even know how to express what I feel looking at the pics...   The "THING" is just perfect...
Hi Charles,
This is a very sexy and clean build, i love all that is murdermod!
But may i ask where is the SLI connector?
Surpized nobody saw this, now tell me, what have i won
personal guess is that it was removed for photo purposes
Oh yes the SLI bridge, forgot about it
Yeah think it was also for photo, because the one from Asus isn't really beautiful (in opposition to the one from EVGA).
Inspirational
Yet another impressive build. I know this has been said a thousand times, but it is still a fitting comment - Charles you have raised the bar even higher with this build. I don't believe I have ever seen a more aesthetically pleasing PC - ever.
Seeing the progression in each of your builds I can only imagine how good the next one will be.
Well done!
Amazing :D what camera you using for your photos :)?
The best Mod I've ever seen...
awesome job  what you are doing there charles - I love it
one little question!
the parts, are they powder coated and which color? they look very special.
There will be wallpaper sized images coming in the near future for any who may want them. :)
Cheers! :)
hehe, I was kidding about the gas... just being a bit silly. :)
Those PLEDs really are incredible. The first time I fired up the machine and saw them I was like... "WHAAAAAT!!!" - it was one of those "OMFG" moments. They are so crisp and sharp - with no backlighting like with similar displays.
We're working on it!
Getting stuff done in the summer is less than ideal... just when one guy comes back from holiday someone else goes... ack!!!
Cheers Jon; very nice of you to say. :)
Cheers. :)
They're being worked on... we'll be offering an assortment of colors and want to get them all sorted and available before offering any. That and half the population of Vancouver is on holiday it seems is why the lengthy delay...
Cheers Brian!
I'll leave that to the Judges. :)
Thank you Tigris. :)
It feels fantastic that something I've been part of producing has a positive effect on people. It really motivates me immensely!
Cheers. :)
The Revolution box only came with the triple-sli bridge - Kirk is sending me a nice dual sli bridge that while not being here in time for the pics, should be in time to be installed before the machine is packed up later this week.
Cheers. :)
Very nice of you to say that; sincere thank you. :)
This build was a massive undertaking and what's seen is only what worked out and not all the stuff that didn't. The goal was to make it clean looking which required tons of planning and much trial and error. So many things were done and redone... nothing simply worked on the first go.
All this to say that it's a great feeling to hear such generous comments after such an undertaking. When the machine is safely in Daniel's hands, I will finally be able to exhale and fully turn my attention to the next project. :)
Cheers Jiggy!
It's the Nikon D90... really like it!
Thank you Cyril. :)
Cheers elle. :)
The parts are powder coated and the color is "Solar Black". The finish is between gloss and matte... more like a satin really. In natural light it has a slight metallic effect with tiny speckles... like the anodized TJ07 unibody.
i really love your case mode the subtle things you did really pushed it over the top and made this a purely amazing case if i could ask how did you make those blue ssd mounting frames i love how they give out and even glow
Greetings from Santiago de Chile!
Yummy new pics! Charles, did you use another lens for these?
I'm coming back next week with a few thousands shots from my vacation, I'll need the beast to sift through and process all those! :D
D.
You should stop by Canada on your way back to pick it up.
And get it on board with you, and then ask the flight crew, where's the 220V plug, ' 'cos I need my pc up and running, lady! And where's the DVI connector for the little screen in front of me?'
But if you'd take it with you, Charles should make special pad with wheels, and a hand stick so it could look like a normal suit-case.
Hopefully sooner. :)
Cheers STRMX. :)
The SSD mount "shelves" incorporate strips of LED lighting that are shot through the length of the material and while doing so, are diffused enough to blend the individual lights eliminating visual hot spots. Trial and error process. :)
Hi Daniel! :)
Same lens - the 24-70mm 2.8 beauty. I'm really not looking forward to giving this baby back...
This week I'll drain your beast and prep it for transport. Then a crate will be made and a blanket and small water dish... oh wait - scratch that.
Anyway, I'll be sure to get pics!
He totally should!
If for nothing more than having a beer wif me. :)
hehe, great idea! :)
The only issue being the name on the faceplate - imagine trying to explain that to Airport Security...
"Yes, that's right... we've got a suspicious object here... 2feet by 2feet - black metal object with the word "murderbox" on it... code 24... subject being brought to interrogation room 13... be sure to bring lots of rubber gloves..."
nah... prolly not a good idea after all, hehe :)
Greetings from the ESO observatory at Paranal, the middle of the :banana::banana::banana:ing desert!
Charles, when I left from Frankfurt, they took me to a separate room to check my watch for explosives. Ridiculous!
cheers,
D.
