Did you pass prime blend or just small fft's? If not blend try it if it passes small fft's and not blend your memory timings/subtimings need to be tweaked.
Printable View
Might try small FFT's later, good point.
I think the BSOD's messed up a few things for what was to be considered stable, almost stable and unstable. Normally if something BSOD's it's far from stable, but this thing brainfarted and just BSOD'd for about everything.
Ive to say it's thus far going good regarding Prime Blend.
285HTT, 13x multi, 3.705Ghz. NB and HT are at a 7x multi and the RAM is running 1:1. Before starting Prime I also ran for a 25% coverage Memtest, no errors. I know 25% or my previous 40% ain't like solid but if something would be really unstable it would have error'd. Now Im running for almost an hour Prime Blend, no issues yet either.
Last thing Im going to do is tweaking the NB a bit. I'd love to and try to get this CPU even higher but Ive been there before since I started OCíng and having 24/7 OC's being just at the edge isnt something you want, just a little ambient rise or whatever and it's all unstable, most of the time this happens when you just forgot the OC's and settings you tried:ROTF:
Maybe I might try and tweak the RAM a bit but this only adds up on numbers most of the time, not all that much on experience behind your PC. Im thinking about tweaking the settings that would have been done via Auto Xpress anyway (which isnt on this board) and tRAS/tRC timings, those are often set way too high.
If this all turns to be stable I might try and reinstall my soundcard again and see if nothing screws up. Creative ain't my favourite want to have brand, nor are soundcards in general, but often they've just a few features which make them shine:rolleyes:
I don't know then  wish I could help :(
may i suggest a reflash and a nice CMOS clear? then try your hand again. you may have a dud, or maybe something funky is stuck in somewhere that needs to be purged.
as an example,
when i first got the cpu in, i was trying to stabilise 2.6ghz nb and was jacking the volts up towards 1.28v. things started acting quite wierd. occt would only see 3 cores at launch and it was unstable. even after dropping the voltage and the nb, it was still unstable. had to 'killcmos' and then reflash to get it back (an alternate would be to reflash twice via the provided .bat file in the .zip and then clear cmos with the jumper (but it's a pain to do! (i miss ez-clear from the 790fx-m2r))).
good luck.
Although this was on a 6400+ with broken IMC (Im a good IMC killer:(), there was a difference between day and night regarding small FFT's and blend. On the otherhand, as said, hardware was broken so you cant expect all results created by that to be 100% legit:rolleyes:
Doing 2h Prime Blend already. If Family Guy is done Ill try and get the NB higher:cool:
Hmm thinking about picking one up to replace my E8400. Anyone hit 4ghz on water yet? What motherboard is everyone using?
Holy :banana::banana::banana:, I just finished a 2.5h run of Prime95 Blend running my multi at 2.565Ghz:cool: I seriously need watercooling:p: But Ive said this a million times:rolleyes:
I've noticed that when I first boot into windows my temps are high giving it a 10-20 minutes to cool off I get a bout 41C idle at 1.500 volts  damn you vista load is then much less then what I was initially getting
well phenom II do bettter the cooler they are. I don't think any motherboard will limit you as long it supports 125watts.
most of use are using 790FX, only SoF did the destroyer and got a lot closer to 4ghz on air (3.979ghz vs 3.779ghz) then we are seem we're getting a bit higher nb speeds.
Demonlevy: Just wondering do you have all 4 cores enabled when booting into windows Vista?
yeah I think so. My windows vita just reinstalled a few days ago because something fudged up my media center and I tried to use restore it locked up wouldn't get back into windows at all. Had to wipe the hard drive and completely fresh install. I probably don't have SP1 on it yet. Anyways when Igot back to my tv tuner I found out my digital tuner didn't work at all, only analog.
Question:
You fellaz that are running a PII 940 already........Is the stock cooler any good or should I just throw my current Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro on it?....or Should I buy a new cooler period?
Grrr!
Im done with Vista now, this is taking the piss.
First I had to remove my RAID card, then my sound card.
Sometimes Im getting a notification that ATI driver stopped working but got restored again. I just installed EvE-Online, started and got a black screen:confused: No BSOD, just a black screen.
I dont know, but WTF is wrong with Vista? I mean, lots of people have no issues while lots of other people have a lot of issues:confused: I only got XP after SP2, did it go this way with XP too?
Anyway, Im seriously considering to remove everything again and install XP64:rolleyes: Shame though, just bought this Vista license for DX10 and I expected everything to work flawless:(
Well I'm having better luck now than when I posted I was stuck at 3.5, reset everything and started again from scratch:
vid set to 1.4375
cpu overvolt - startup or disabled I guess
NB 2ghz at 1.3v
HT 1.6ghz at 1.2v
vdimm 2.2
4x1gb ddr2 800 4-4-4-12
I think this is as far as I'm going to take it until I rig up some mosfet cooling since biostar left them neked and flaming hot.

Is your video card overclocked?
AND
Do you have dual monitors?
If so then you have to disable the second one or you can't overclock the video without major problems. (They will work at stock speed.) You don't have to unplug it... just using CCC to disable it works.
This is a known driver issue that many of us are hoping they fix SOON.
I also have the A79A-S.
I can get about the same as you do on the overclock. I CAN get 3.7 for benching; it is Prime95 stable for 6 hours but I do not consider that good enough to be 24/7.
(And I can do 3.9-4.0 if I increase the NB VID in the AOD to 1.4V, the VCORE to 1.5V. I can do some things but it is not stable; I could CPU validate IF it would let you do that when you use AOD.)
BTW: I also increase the voltages in bios by about 2 steps above default for each one of them. (A bit more for memory... to get 2.116V.)
Well, it's working is all I can say. I don't see anything new added like I did with the Bios I replaced. Eitherway I like to have the newest one available. My PII 940 will be here soon and don't want any problems.
@Chew.....The TRUE is VERY expensive for a heatsink. How's the performance? I don't want to waste 75+ bucks on a heatsink for nada.
Look at the Xigmatek HDT-S1283, costs less (40-50$) and performs almost as good. (Source: http://www.silentpcreview.com/article818-page5.html; http://www.frostytech.com/articlevie...id=2333&page=4)
In Sweden it's at about 3/4 of the price of a TRUE and that's including a decent fan (compared to the TRUE which is fanless).
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=486491 This is the highest i can get. Got a htt wall at 265mhz :( Next week my new ram is coming also hope i can clock a little higher.
My attemp at max. CPU-Z :)

After some tests I must admit this setting is stable, very stable:rolleyes:!
Plus Cinema 4D R10 multi-CPU pass 15400points
SuperPi 1M/4M pass
OCCT 1h not stable, error after 6 minutes ... needs better cooling (or more volts )
Cpu's not lapped, and i'm not using the high pressure mod, just the True is lapped, we are also taliking 65nm temps. small fft's to increase heat.
This is a push pull with a couple delta fans ( not the really insane ones )

Not bad. My current Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro has my 5000+ BE at 38C, but that is with the help of winter weather. It nevers goes above 53C at full load, but this is just with a dual core. I may take your advice, but I am going to see how the stock cooler and the Freezer Pro perform on my 940 before taking the leap. If the TRUE was like 30 bucks I would have jumped on it, but I am seeing modles ranging from 75 bucks to over 100 bucks. For the price of a TRUE I could get a used water setup. Thanks for your input though.
I just spent a nice chunk upgrading. I doubt "The Wife" will be happy with this price.....
http://www.avadirect.com/product_det...asp?PRID=12507
Ouch at the copper version, this is a little more affordable.
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/75...?tl=g40c14s813
And the copper version which I would not reccomend except for a benching rig and mounted upright. more affordable.
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/83...?tl=g40c14s813
And a very affordable alternative, maybe 1C diff to TRUE BLACK
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/56...?tl=g40c14s813
I got the 1284ee and its excellent quality.....I havent tested it yet but no lapping required. I just want to say also I have only used Thermalright since I started overclocking in early 2001 with the sk-6 on a tbird 1000. But the prices are just rediculous now. There are some coolers out here now that can pretty much match thermalright if you set them up right. I will be testing out this hs as soon as I get my mobo so well see how it goes.

Yeah, the Xigmatek coolers are performing very nice and at a much more reasonable price than Thermalright. I've got the TRUE but my next build might include Thor's Hammer if it performs in line with my expectations (hopefully a bit better than TRUE) and is priced accordingly. Looks nice and should perform well too.
http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/17...iew/index.html
here is 1hr Prime small fft's. This is on a artic cooler freezer 64 pro, of course with an added 80mm thermal take adjustable speed fan ;). The NB is @ 2600.
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/Deneb/XP3...T1hr3.8ghz.JPG
Yah the xig is a very nice cooler but.......in my initial situation i needed it for 775, and they give you a crappy mounting system, so bad they made a new one.......then on top of it they want $15 for it....it should be bundled with all the new coolers, they know they suck....add the $15 into the cost and the true wasn't that much of a difference.
Ok here 3.6 @1.45v this one using 2600 NB speed ,memory @1066, Now i'am going to try to see if i can get 3.7 so far not looking to good i think i mite need a 32 bit OS to move up from this point . I also flash back to the P05 bois try that for a bit but the cpu clock the same with the old or newer P06 bios.
@Merkk1....Boss Wallpaper Dude. Hooters....the perfect fetish!
@Chew....The third recommendation seems OK, but still over priced. I really doubt I will pay over 40-50 for any air heatsink. :p:....Yeah, call me a cheapy.
My OCZ RAM finally popped up in my mail box from Newegg. (I really hate DHL Express/USPS)

....Now all I need is my PII 940 which has a ETA of the 20th. Bah, 3 more days!
you know i was looking at clocks and didnt even notice them until you mentioned it, lol im gettin old
is that the Platinum 8500 set? ive been using OCZ for a while now, and picked up the Platinum 8500's myself 2 x 2 gig, while i was RMA'ing my crucial ballistix 1066,Quote:

i got to say i am very impressed with them, ive got them running at 2.0v and no problems, not one BSOD with them (i was getting a few with the crucial)
i havent upped the HTT on them yet to saee how high they go, but i seen a review that had them @ 1250 mhz
Anyone think going DDR2-1066 this late in the game is worth it? I can do a full set for right under a hundred bucks, and I'd be going from vanilla DDR2-800 to OC'd 1066 most likely.
i think if you have a AM2+ board and a Phenom or Phenom II, then yes.
the price at the moment as you said is peanuts, i got my 2 x 2 gig OCZ 1066 mhz for £50, not cheap, but for 4 gig of ram, you cant grumble.
and as i said earlier, these OCZ sticks are reported to hit 1250 easy on 2.2v, so if you want to OC from HTT, your have a bargain.
although going from 800 to 1066 i was disapointed in the 'real feel' of differance, although crysis did seem much smoother, other than that i wouldnt have noticed
I figured a way to use the mounting system from my Thermalright SI-128SE with the xigmatek......so no additional cost for me.....but even so Thermalright will cost $67 with no fan....add a fan and you talking another $12 plus shipping......you talking minum of $85.
compared to $39.99 for xig which comes with a fan plus $15 for the bracket plus the same $6 shipping and you got $61 $24 difference.
But im my case my Xig cost me $39.99 I'm using my bracket and I got free shipping from Newegg and I got a 125cfm 120mm fan from the SI that I can throw on..A fan Ive had since 2003:yepp:..... thats a $45 difference in my case thats a lot of extra cash for something else:up:
I have 4x2gb memory as stated in my signature (work in progress). It looks like I hit a wall at 3.6GHz on the CPU. I tried bumping the CPU voltage to 1.6V but when I get to 3.7GHz on the CPU, Vista will blue screen during boot. I suspect this has something to do with the fact that I am using 4x2gb memory. I tried ganged and unganged... I really expected to hit 4GHz with this system considering the water cooling and all. I had the 9850BE running on this rig at a clean 3.0GHz, any attempt to go higher would fail even with ACC enabled. Any suggestions other than go down to 4GB memory and see what happens? Still, happy with the CPU, would like to push it some more...
Nah, it's not the Platnum series. It's the Gold series. I have it running at 4-4-4 with my 5000+ BE right now though.(See Updated Sig) I won't be able to put them to the test just yet until I get my 940.:(.BTW, how could you miss the bobbies? LOL
Not sure about worth. I had to buy my set. I am passing my 4GB of DDRII 800 to my wife. I am also giving her my 5000+ BE. I am going to move the Biostar TA770 to her machine too. I bought a ECS Black Edition SB750 mobo with onboard 3200 that I am going to use as the HTPC. Bought a 100 foot VGA cable to run to my Epson Projector. I figured DDRII 1066 is just as cheap as 800 so why not. Besides I want 2X2GB over 4X1GB. NTM, this RAM was only 50 bucks for 4GB.
sound, how long ago did you pick up that set of plats? I know the more recent max out around 1120, diff IC's i think. I'm using them as well.
yea ocz platinums are pretty good im using the 1066 2x2gb ones as well and i got them on stock right now running fully stable at 1.98V.
06 cpu test...
http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/4...shot102pn7.jpg
Nice, I finally just broke 6k last night lol
Man, you seem to be having alot of problems... Did you try stressing your chip at stock? I know it's an outside shot, but you may have actually gotten a bad chip. In that case I wouldn't hesitate to RMA it....
Mine is no OC monster, but I haven't had the problems you've been experiencing..
Well I repositioned the CPU cooler to better cool the power regulator heatsink (as described here). My CPU temp benefited the most. Anyway, finally got 3.6 stable.
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=487023
I'm still stuck at this clock, still tuning also -_-'' http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=486147
WOW the new PhenomII 940 just did a price drop here. then they came out price was 375.00(CAD), now on Newegg.ca there 310.00.....920 are 265.00
WOW....Check this out. I found out about the 15 dollar Phenom II 940 discount late so I contacted Newegg and they are giving me 15 bucks back(Promo Code). Thus, getting my 940 for 215 due to buying a cheap 16GB flash drive. (15 Dollar combo discount).....Plus a 10 dollar rebate for the flash drive.(LOL)
http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/2...3169vn4.th.jpg
SO what are you buying me?
I forgot it doesn't show that. I had to use 1.5v.
Funny part is at these settings my CPU gets to 72C and my chipset up to 75. :( It's never been that hot before. I calculated repositioning my heatsink knocked off a couple degrees from the CPU, but didn't do much of anything for the chipset.
Daveburt714, yes, at stock my system is fine.
Had to. I couldn't resist. I have spent almost 500 bucks at newegg with in the last 5 days.
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/6...9403sj8.th.jpg
That sucks man... I hate to say it, but it sounds like you may have gotten a turd. I'd be too honest to RMA it if it did what it was supposed to do, reguardless I feel for ya... :yepp:
On the bright side, Phenoms are tricky chips keep working at it you may very well be able to get better clocks.
Well, it's not real impressive, and I seriously doubt it's 100% stable, but it was good enough for a CPU-Z validation, and it's still holding it's own while I post this message.... :p:
http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...0118_39_27.png
Personally, anything under 10secs on WPrime makes me feel good...
I'm still working on my tweak abilities, It might actually do better, and let me get an hour OCCT verification.. :D
Heres the CPU-Z Validation link:

I love this PhII, and in the end, it's just your average retail chip, SWEET... :D
Probably the best thing of all is the ~2.7 NB speed! My 9950 would have never even come close to those clocks...
:rolleyes:Dave, mine is similar to yours clock wise, but require 1.52V for that clock. I've did some 4 core Cinema stuff on previous page, but OCCTP 1H failed after 6 minutes when temp reached 57C. Better cooling or more volts and 3.9GHz in 64bit stable!
I'm now going to fire up my main ring and figure it out
Some more benching at 3.95gig on WATER trying for decent ram and NB clocks atm , rather than outright clk, which seems to be difficult on wat over 4gig. :)

Thanks for posting your results on water, nice clocks, but from what I have gathered 4Ghz prime95 stable seems to be out of range with the current stepping of Phenom II.
Thats what I was hoping to see, Im sorta holding off on getting one now, as it looks that 3.8Ghz is more realistic for prime95 stability using water and moderate voltage increases.
Also waiting for the prices to drop in the UK, such a shame that US retailers dont ship to Europe, so we can benefit in better pricing........
mAJORD, your Crypto bandwidth should be higher than mine, but it isn't - I'm running at DDR2-960 memory 4x2gb, and FSB 240 x15 = 3.6GHz CPU, NB at 2.4GHz (10x) and HT at 2.4GHz. That's kind of weird. Your HT multiplier is different from your NB, that must have something to do with the motherboard you are using.
Crypto
Bandwidth 542 MB/s (you got 441 MB/s) - big discrepancy
Hashing 660 MB/s (you got 687 MB/s)
CPU at 1.4V, NB at 1.3V right now. I've tried 1.6V on the CPU and 1.5V on the NB but I can't increase the speed of either without crashing the system. Not quite where I expected water cooling to get me. I'm guessing it is due to using all 4 memory slots.
His should be better than this test I did...
http://img118.imageshack.us/img118/5...2nb2926sl4.png
I went for it. I picked up 8GB of G.Skill DDR2-1066 just now. It's supposed to clock well, but I'm wondering about the PII IMC. Has anyone had luck in doing 1066 with 4 DIMMs yet?
I like your memory scores :)
Good work mAJORD:up:
Has anyone seen Phenom II with 0901xxxx batch?
Toppc did 1120 on a MSI DKA790GX-Platinum here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...5&postcount=26
Best I can do stable with 4x2gb is FSB 240, DDR2-960 5-5-5-12-20. Sandra scores are very good [improvement over 9850BE, 3GHz, same memory settings and NB speed]. I was able to post at DDR2-1066 speed 6-6-6-18-25but the memory was not stable, and I could not boot at all at DDR2-1100. I have also tried FSB 250, NB at x9 (2250MHz), DDR2-1000 also not stable at 5-5-5-15-24.
Memory
Int 12.08 GB/s [ 6.5%]
Float 12.06 GB/s [ 6.5%]
Latency 77 ns [ 6.1%]
Curiously the Multi-core efficiency is way up in Phenom II, but way behind Core i7. It's probably not a very good test. Up 45% for a 20% increase in clock speed.
Multi-core efficiency
Bandwidth 5.45 GB/s [45.3%]
Latency 78 ns [44.3%]
That is suspicious, since multicore efficiency went way down in Cinebench. Instead of a speedup of like 3.8-3.9 we're seeing 3.6ish on Phenom II for whatever reason.
I have issues running 4x2Gb too. Memtest fails at 1066. Down to 800 now and testing from there.
Tried NB up to 1,5v and RAM up to 2.28v with no difference. My CPU/SB temps are very nice but need to check ram temps.
Thats a great clock, and one of the better CPU's, only thing small FFT's dont stress the northbridge of the CPU.
At least with my current Phenom, the difference in clock speed with regards to stability comparing small FFT's to large FFT's can be as much as 150mhz...........
what is your guys max trc in bios for phII?
This is what I've achieved so far :)

Well I spent most of the day seeing if I could coax more CPU out of this CPU, but I cannot. I didn't bother going down to 2 sticks because I want to run with 8gb memory. Even if I push the system to FSB 244 it is not stable (3.66GHz CPU). It's "close" at that point. I tried backing off the FSB to DDR2-800 with the same timings that work at 960MHz, and tried to push the CPU up to 3.7GHz but it was not stable, even with 1.6V on the CPU and 2.6V on the other BIOS setting (that starts with 2.5V, I forget the name!) Just to be absolutely sure I am going to keep it at 3.6GHz on the CPU, 2.4GHz on the NB, with 1.4V and 1.3V respectively as stated in my signature. Memory was also not stable up past DDR2-960, looks like I found all the limits I can, and will just have to be happy with it. I was really expecting more though.
How's this for a glory shot w/ stock volts? Stable enough to get a screenshot! =o)~
http://www.overclock.net/gallery/dat...STOCKvolts.jpg
Normally have vcore at 1.536v but under high load my motherboard drops voltage a bit (.016) and after 10+ mins of occt at 1.52v (even thow it should be 1.536v) computer will restart:mad:. Only have it at 1.568v for occt. Edit: NB is at 0f (1.375v) Also cpu is on water.
http://i380.photobucket.com/albums/o...table1hour.png
guys, how does one validate his voltage? lol.
Yes!
I think I solved my BSOD issues:cool:
There seems to be a hotfix for the 0x00000124 BSOD's which will be in SP2. It's some issue between multiple PCI(-e) cards or so:shrug:
Anyway, what Ive done past days is got my RAID card working (I had to enable SATA controller in BIOS?), fixed BSOD's and got a stable OC:cool:
Ran 6h Prime Blend last night without errors, did a 10 run Intelburntest where the 9th run shown instability, all the other runs were good. I assumed this might be the IMC so changed it to 15 and did a 15 run after and no errors at all.
Maybe Ill give it another try in a while but for now Im more than happy:cool:
I do not have one for that particular speed. However, just messing with the multi I have one upto 23x. Although, I found there to be much stability to be gained by keeping the multi low and the bus speed high, which was what I was playing there to see what I would need for a high cpuz run! Now, it's time for some volts and some bus speed!
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=482422 Just Multi.
I thought that there was supposed to be switches in in CPU-Z that would let you post the Vcore.
