I had it installed because I was using an X1800XT and then installed a 1950 a co worker tried to sell me. The file is 53.5MB It installs as a patch, anything else?Quote:
Btw: do you have the Crysis Hotfix Instaled????
http://support.ati.com/ics/support/d...estionID=30533
Don't need it for 3870. Looks like it was removed during the last cleaning in fact.
Anyway, I fixed the problem and it was the nothing to do with my system hardware or my computer. I tested the video card and the computer at stock speed. What was the problem? HDMI and its High Def Drivers (might not have installed correctly) + the X-Fi + Dimage (Minolta Digital Camera software). Might be overkill but--->
After a fresh Defrag and Disk check.
I then;
Booted up in safe mode.
Un-installed the drivers.
Cleaned out the driver cache
Looked for leftovers.
Booted into WinXP
Canned the reinstall of the Video card.
Un installed the ATI junk CCC and etc.......
Ran Crap Cleaner found even more leftovers, 79 files.
Searched the Reg for more leftovers. Found more didn't count.
Re-Booted WinXP
Canceled the Plug-and-Play attempt to install again, all 3 times.
Shut down all running apps including AVG.
This time installed the software and drivers from the disk.
Made sure it requested a reboot and did so.
Waited for the next WinXP get to Idle with everything was ready to use.
Wayyyy more than I needed to do but I wanted to make sure. I might have left a step or two out.
Quick Defrag and started up CoD4. Set it to 1600 X 1200 with mostly high details. Games starts, I'm on the sniper map. First start I see a skip and think oh crap. Then when he says "Follow me" and it starts, the game runs and plays is buttery smooth. In fact, it is running faster than the X1800 did at 1024 X 768 (does happy dance).
I replied here and didn't test much else.
To the other guy. I use Video In for my Harmon Kardon Receiver's On Screen Display. Not a deal breaker but it would have been nice.
To: mascaras
CoD4 has only a 1600 X 1200. 3870 only gives me the Option for 1600 X 1050, nothing higher but I think that's my Acer 22" LCD's limitation. I'll give Crysis a shot. Do one of the Quake's, FEAR, Farcry and which ever 3DMarks I can find. Stay tuned.

...you buy the Diamond HD 3870 with VIVO?
https://www.diamondmm.com/store/prod...roductid=16288
Sure, but the Visiontek 3870 sold for $214@Best Buy with a shipped and Tax Price of $237. I have an option to return the card but now that it seems to be working, I'm sticking with it.Quote:
ATI Radeon HD 3870 VIDEO CARD : DIAMOND VIPER HD 3870 PCIE 512MB GDDR4 Dual DVI & HDTV-Out
Price: $299.99
I posted that link because it was the best proof of VIVO inclusion. The price is highway robbery. That however appears to be the same card as newegg has here:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...&Tpk=hd%2b3870
OOS...as usual and $249...the gouging continues, but if VIVO is important to you...as it certainly is to me then this appears to be the HD 3870 buy.
I didn't mean anything negative here. It seemed like there weren't much of a price difference when the 18 and 1900's included VIVO. When I bought mine, Newegg only had a few in stock and wanted about $289 for that same model IIRC. I just wondered, why Visiontek didn't include it?
Didn't take it that way. :) That's the only HD 38x0 I've seen with VIVO support so far...though I haven't looked that hard.
Also make note of the cables that ship with their VIVO Cards? 99% of them ship with it and if it's NOT there, that's a dead give-away. The Dongle Cable on the right.

Damn, impressive score for 3850 xfire!
Here are the two reviews that I did on CrossFire:

Very nice review Apoptosis. That answers the question for the other guy why I wish I had gotten the 8800GT ( a local bud on [H] forum). I would have only paid just over $250 for it.
Not with AA but AF;) This is only on the Med setting BTW.Quote:

At this shop in Canada the 8800gt and HD3870 are both for the same price. I play at 1440x900, which card performs better?

Heres mine @ Defaults:D
The problem is that there are points on each MAP where there was some type of Glitch. I got stuck between some lockers, I dropped a Laptop the wrong way and it killed me and etc....... I like the Game but I was surprised by how Buggy it is.
I kept my 3870 instead of taking it back. CoD4 and the other games I play look pretty good with it.
I can't wait, my 3870 should be here wednesday. What do you think i'll score in 3DMark06 with sig-rig? :D
Can't wait for the 45nm release, i plan on E8400 / X38 and might go crossfire :up:

There's definitely something wrong with that "crysis benchmarking"
AFAIK all latest runs perform same or bit better
I think that is absolutely not bad, for a HD3850 256Mb Crossfire Default .
I'm glad to see someone posting a real game benchmark again. (instead of the annoyingly useless 3DM06 scores), and showing how relatively strong this 'light' card actually can be in dual setup. Thanks Mascaras.
I think I am being bottle necked by my CPU.
See sig for full system speck.

Or do you think there is something wrong with my setup?
Of course you aren't "bottle necked by CPU", see the same CPU score in both benchmarks. EDIT: wait. I just saw you have merely a E2140. Yeah, could be the bottleneck...
Your CF isn't working correctly? Make sure you have default settings in CCC when you use CF.
Q6600 @3ghz => 17500 with gpu and ram @ stock ;)
The problem is not the software, it is the silly miss use of it that's kind crazy.
Most folks with Common sense know the software has a good use. It for checking like set-ups to make sure they're properly set up or tweaked. IMHO, it was never meant as software used for contests LOL! Geeks change this view and FM went along with them instead of re-stating what the h@ll it was meant for:) Too many it became 3D Bung-Holi-marks because of this *misuse.
Of course the software has no correlation to any Game;)
3870 CF is heavy CPU limited, even a 3,6Ghz quad is not enough.
Good work Mascaras!
I did Crysis x32/x64 tests @1680x1050 HIGH DX9 (under Win XP x64)
Phenom@2470MHz
Hd3870CF@800/1200
Crysis x32 - Average from 2,3,4 loop 38,9FPS
Crysis x64 - Average from 2,3,4 loop 42,01FPS
Bear in ming that I'm running only 2GB of RAM ATM. With 3GB+ Crysis x64 can load everything into memory, so higher averages and no shuttering during gameplay :) .
I don´t know man, but when I tried 3870 CF a few days ago there was a huge difference in scores (I mean, in SM2.0 and SM3.0) going from 3,3Ghz to 3,6Ghz. With more Mhz those things would fly!
My CPU seems a good clocker so I will aim for 3.6 now.
4GHz may be available lol (wish full thinking I know ;)) Bring on the water cooling.
not bad for a single 3870 and X2? all stock but cpu @ 3.33ghz

oh yeah i hear ya, im running 1680x1050 too. Single card is almost exact same score!
I plan on picking up a x38 and a E8400 in late jan / early feb :up:
Danger, if I can remember correctly, I was getting like 8200-8300 SM3.0 marks at 3,3Ghz with my current setup (see sig).
for xFire?
My cpu is only an E2140 @ 3.2GHz so is limiting them. Maybe the extra cache and .1GHz helped your score out more. I am going to have a go at 550x6 (3300Mhz) at some pointand see if that helps.
The 2x Powercolor HD3870 arrived today (but no PCS editon :( )

Yes Danger, XFire.
Burn them mascaras :D
I know, one more hour here in Spain :D
All those Windows installs are PITA. Would we wonderful if you test both XP and Vista, in Vista x64 + XFire with Crysis only DX10 mode worked for me, you can try that too :p:
yes i will test XP and Vista ultimate 32bit
but i think Crossfire in crysis only work with windows XP

vista is dude
What are you trying to say? I think: nothing. like the first 2 pages of your most recent posts. This is a forum, dude, not a cell-phone.
Mascaras: awaiting your tests! :up:
I'm very tempted to order 2 3870's now to complete my Maximus. I think i can't wait much longer for the X2 version, i find the lack of any news about their developement disencouraging. I understood that hardware-wise it's finished but they're still working on the complex drivers. But i have the eerie feeling that the first reviews won't show up before end February, early March...
Crysis is actually quite playable on my X1900XT! :)
If you are planning to use Vista with Crossfire, I would recommend you to wait until 7.12 or 8.1 drivers come out. The perfomance in some games with CF enabled is weird. If you are going to use XP, go for it now.
Buy a 3870 now, you will see a very noticeable boost in perfomance (ex-1950XTX user here :p:) :up:

Bom dia Mascaras.
A Crossfire question: when a certain game runs bad in crossfire mode, is it only a 'one click' action required to shut off one card (so without a reboot) and play the game single-carded?
I could live with a fact that certain older DX9 titles (Need For Speed Most Wanted, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic) run better on my old X1900XT, i constantly have 3 PC's in front of me anyway. But the whole idea for my new Maximus + videocard(s) yet to choose is to play all today's games, @1600x1200 in full maximum glory (DX9 / 10).
@ STaRGaZeR: yes i could order now and enjoy. BUT. I have saved €600, i can't spend 400 now knowing the double-sized cards already exist, and in 2 months time my savings may have reached 800 ~ 900 euros for 2 X2's so i could have in a way 4 3870's in my Maximus.... i only need to know if those are really up to the expectation and run flawlessly on X38... (you never know, maybe they require an AMD motherboard...) there's simply no report about them yet. :shakes:
yep , just 1 click in CCC to deactive CF :)

mascaras, CF is not working in Crysis ;)
With a single card I have the exact same fps at the exact same point. With CF enabled, in Vista DX10 Crysis they are much higher.
in windows xp its working
with single card and with 8800GT @ 1680x1050 @ High Settings i have around 29/30 fps in that place (sunset) , with CF i have 47 fps :)
you have 47 fps @ 1680x1050 @High settings in tha place ( sunset) with single card ???
and crysis bench @ 1680x1050 @High Settings with single card you have average = 40 fps???

I know this results are with 1280x1024 resolution, in a friends house 1680x1050 to 1280x1024 takes about 3-4 fps in that concrete place. So I have 3-4 fps of advantage. Now add that Vista is 3-4 fps slower than XP, and you have more or less the same final result.
64bits DX10 Crossfire with this exact same configuration and settings, in that place of yours, fps around 60-65, beach 50-55. Stock cards and 3Ghz E6700. So I think that results are a bit low for CF in XP. That or CF is not really working. What are your results single card? :p:
1280x1024 to 1680x1050 its a bit different :p:
but you are right in 1 thing , Crysis runs better in Vista 64 bit than in windows XP ,thats why you have good FPS with single card but Crossfire in Crysis dont work on Vista only in XP :up:

Have you read what I said? 1680x1050 to 1280x1024 is about 3-4 fps, maybe 5, not more. Again too low for CF.
Crossfire WORKS on Vista, in DX10 mode :yepp:

mascaras, thanks for the mini review! :up:
mascaras did you you create an autoexec.cfg file (using notepad and rename the file autoexec.cfg) and put the following in X:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis SP Demo\Game\Config:
con_restricted = 0
r_DisplayInfo = 1
r_multigpu = 1
Then start a new game.
Thats for what? ?? :shrug:
regards
con_restricted = 0 <--unlocks all codes
r_DisplayInfo = 1 <--in game FPS counter
r_multigpu = 1 <---makes sure multiple gpus are enabled
STaRGaZeR are you using Sp1 RC in vista 64 or the multigpu fixes?
And with everything on veryhigh on DX10 is crossfire working and do you get good fps?
No malik, no SP1 here, just Vista 6000 version. All Vista DX10 and multiGPU patches installed.
In Crysis and Vista, Catalyst 7.11 without the Crysis hotfix, Crossfire only works in DX10 mode, for both 32 and 64 bits. Keep in mind that this is almost the first release of the drivers for the 3870, so they will improve dramatically over time, specially in CF. For comparison purposes, here are a few screenshots in Paradise Lost, one of the most demanding levels of the game. Mascaras, I would like to see your results here too. This results were done on my sig rig.

Just for information, my single 3870, in the last capture (Prophet one) is around 20-23fps :D
ok i will try
with windows XP the CF in cysis only work with Hotfix (if use only cat 7.11 doesnt work)
I have Cat 7.10 + Hotfix

i think its very very good for single card , i dont know how that guy get that average ................

Yes, 7.11 DX10 CF Crysis works OK. See the captures :p:
I know why that result is so high. That guy is cheating. Take a look at this:
http://img136.imageshack.us/img136/6017/ddud5.png
My monitor only supports 1280x1024. If you select 1680x1050, the Crysis utility will show 1680x1050, but the benchmark runs at 1280x1024. Do you want to see something really :eek: ? See below, and please look at the resolution :D

BE CAREFUL, CRYSIS BENCHMARKING TOOL IS BUGGY!
I would like to se some DX10 action, at least at high settings.
DX10 + CF + Cat7.11 + C.Hotfix + UltraHigh
Just to compare.
my friend tryed 10 minuts ago HD3870 CF in crysis with Windows Vista @ DX10 with 7.11 ando NO GO !
btw:
i tested single VS crossfire in windows XP and its obvious that is working (FPS in left & Right Corner of SS)

O_O WTF with that fps? 25? :lol:
I think I will have to do some video of single 3870@ that place :D
yep , thats normal with single card , and with 8800GT i also have around 28 fps in that place (Windows xp)
in widows vista 64 bits you must have more , thats normal , crysis runs better in Vista 64bits

STaRGaZeR thx for the response and did you try SP1 maybe it gives a performance increase and what mobo and cpu do you have?
He replied to that question in post 688 and his system is in his sig.
Hmmm... i think it is about time to consider buying Vista x64....
NO WAY is only Vista... we are talking about 20fps difference... in Crysis... that impossible and you know it. IŽve noticed that 64bits only affects MINIMUM FPS, not MAXIMUM, average a bit (caused by the higher minimum of course).
BTW try Paradise Lost CF and no CF in XP like in my previous post, is way more demanding than the beach. And again, CF WORKS on Vistax64 in DX10 mode. If your friend cannot activate it, he must be doing something wrong.
Tomorrow IŽll do a 30segs video confirmation (limited by my crap camera :p:)
test with 1680x1050 High settings if possible ...................
1280x1024 its a big difference from 1680x1050
Now my run with same settings >>> Crossfire HD3870 @ 1280x1024 @ High settings @ Windows XP ( + 11 Fps )
http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/8...sis1280yq0.jpg
And now same settings But 1680x1050

Dang that looks good!
Then XP is slow compared to Vista 64... less fps drop in Vista.
BTW I´m waiting for 7.12 or 8.1 to get my second 3870. The last Nov games has no CF support.
