Hey guys, Are there any ways to recover your system from failed OC? It's driving me nuts to manual clear the cmos everytime the system fails to boot...I had to reconfigured all of the setting under BIOS again and agian...
This my first DFI board and I'm very used to the crash free feature on Giga/Asus boards I had. If there's no way to get around the failed OC crash issue, my OC will take FOREVER....
Please help me out here.
Thanks everyone.
you've got the new bios. hold reset and home key
damn...now the reset + home key method doesn't work after like 5-6 times failed OC. The system just hangs there after powered on...I really don't want to go through the FCG guides again for reconfiguring the bios settings....LOOOL..:(
time to get some nice PC8500 RAMS !!!! ARRRHg
Guys, what's the correct way of press and hold the RESET + HOME key to get back to default setting?!
I've being trying for hours to no avail!
I even flashed the BIOS back to 0402 cos 0424 doesn't let me use the reset + home method.
I'm on 0402 now and I still cannot go back to the default setting using reset + home method....OMG.
What have I done wrong??? I tried press and hold reset + home from the ATX case or mobo's reset button + home key on the keyboard and the system just kept on shutting off / on before I could even hear the loud beep for a successful post.
I really love this board but until I get failed OC, things started to get really annoying.
I said to myself this is my 4th c2d mobo and I really want to keep it as my last one.
Edit:
The booting cycle:
1. click
2. click click
3. click
4. shuts off.
5 turns back on..in a loop
I pressed RESET and HOME together and the system just wouldn't let me CONTROL IT @@@@@!!!!
Hold down Delete only and then power on. May take several cycles. Didn't you clear CMOS?
Edit: Never mind on the Clear CMOS. You don't want to reset up....
Edit Edit: Rebels Haven has mod bios with all the crap preset for OC. Makes it easier. Also all straps are available, but not all work for me.
Yeah, I cleared the CMOS already but whenever my OC fails, I cannot use the RESET + HOME method to post back to default setting. It'd be crazy if you had to do CMOS clear everytime you make each trial and error OC attempts.
I've tried your method by holding down the reset key first and the power on but then the system just hangs there. I pressed reset again, it shuts itself down auto and turn back on again and shuts down again and again...in a loop
I press reset again in the middle of the loop and the system seems to get respond to that but its respond was just hanging there.
It would take over hundreds times of trial and error to get the perfect OC setting and it would be impossible to acheive if this DFI mobo doesn't have OC fail recovery feature..
I literally tried every combinations of RESET / HOME / INSERT ...and I just couldn't get the mobo to respond back to me properly:mad:
sigh...
THis mobo seems to be the best OC board I've tested but with the lack of OC fail support may just make its great OC-ability to nothing unless I'm just so talented to know the exact configuration without the system fails to boot due to OC....
Sorry, reread my reply. I was editing while you were posting back. It's Delete not Reset.
@X-Tiramisu
It doesn't take but maybe 45 seconds to set the cmos back up from a cleared state. With that said there might be other issues at work here. I've hammered this board hard since the day it was released and probably haven't seen an actual no-boot condition but maybe five or six times.
on my nf4 DFI when i face such problem and want to boot into failsafe settings ii hold my finger on the insert button and power on the machine
can u try that
It's Delete on this board, Resets only FSB.
Thanks for the replies guys,
I still don't have any luck to get the mobo to post using the methods above.
The system will just cont on a restarting boot loop and it doesn't seems to respond to the press and hold key(s) I've tried..
manually CMOS clear will be the only option if I ever get a failed OC. I'd have to go through the hassel to just get CMOS cleared...and then another round of hassel to get BIOS configuration setup again. If OC trial by error fails, congrats, I'm on the nightmare loop again...it'd take forever before I could reach the final OC.
Sorry guys, I know you all have kindly helped me on the way but this DAMN MOBO just isn't smart enough to recover from a failed condition. I feel like I've to OUTSMART this board to get it tricked to boot...
If I cannot solve this issue and have to do CMOS clear everytime OC fails...back it goes and it doesn't matter how great of a OC'er it is...it'll take FOREVER MY TIME to overcome that failed OC loop....
On mine, I have to hold the Delete key down while the board tries to reboot. Once in a while the settings are too screwed up to work at all, but usually within 3 restart attempts, it resets the FSB to 266 and away it goes. If my settings turn out to be bad at 266 also, Clear Cmos is the only answer. Good luck!
I can't pass 310Mhz FSB stable on my QX6700 :( I must be doing something wrong but I dont' catch it...
Is there any tweak/critical value for Quad Cores ? I'm using 04/24 bios...
I did 480Mhz FSB stable yesterday on a P5K Deluxe... this is by now quite far from those numbers... Hope I will find the solution (if someone helps me on this..).
Here ya go loc.o. I managed to get the crucial 25th Anniversary to do 600Mhz. Took 2.5volts though. 32mb Pi not possible, but I'm gonna plug in that G.Skill kit I mentioned b4. Only increase in Vdimm was necessary by the way.

My NB temps are 50C idle at 1.25V... i touch the heatsink and its very hot...
any ideas? everyone elses seem to be running under 40C
my cpu temp is 28C / system temp 37C
Put a fan over it. I've got a small 80mm Antec Spot on low that keeps the NB @ 30.
Hello people.
Sorry by my bad English, I'm Spanish.
Today arrived the mobo and I have a problem.
My PSU is a Tagan 480W and with the same components except the motheboard that was a ASUS P5W DH Deluxe my system was totally stable.
TOday I change the Mobo and configure the BIOS, but when I run Orthos, in two or three seconds, the PC shut down (with a previous power off).
Sometimes when Windows XP starts up, PC shuts down too.
I watch a 12v Power with 8 pins in the motheboard but my PSU only have a 4pin 12v. The manual says that If we don't have the 8 pin 12v power cable, we can connect de 4 pin cable.
What is my problem ?
Is my PSU ?
@yenclas, you are probably right. DFIs are picky about which PSU they like. I assume all voltages are correctly adjusted.
bleh. might need to get another dfi board and see if it does better than this one. or move to quadgt and try that (although I'm starting to like this board).
I can't seem to find stability with 500fsb. Unless I set dq to 5 or 6 and 1.6vsb, and pcie to something other than 100, I can't even get more than a few seconds worth of blend stability. Doing the above grants me a much longer time of around 6 hours or so. Even adding a bump in voltage across the board doesn't help. I've tested with loose timing and 6x multi as well. Seems like all will be fine when it'd decide to just out of no where lock up hard.
So I'm at 8x450 now. Tried 200strap and found no 400mhz option for ram, so no 1:1 there.
man...
@ziddey,
Did you loop memtest 1.70 #5 @ 500FSB? I was successful with one kit, but unsuccessful with another. I normally run memtest for about 4-8 hours @ high FSB or memory speeds to isolate it or the memory controller. You may want to try running small or large FTT's and see if you get further. This will help isolate if the memory oc or cpu oc is failing. I got my board to pass 4 hours of orthos 515 X 7 when I first got it. Haven't been able to duplicate it since. Going to be trying my 2nd board over the weekend. It has newer serial numbers etc. Hopefully I can see some 535FSB Pi like others:)
Thanks for keeping me updated.
I tried that method but the board still only cont. on a reboot cycle...sigh
Can anyone else please share your reboot back to default trick with this board without doing the CMOS clear the hard way everytime?? Thanks.
This board doesn't seem to like my rams(see sig) no matter even I've loosen the timings and such. My DS3 could bench at 500FSB 1:1 at 4-5-4-15 timings but with the DARK, I can't even post beyond 495FSB with sorts of loosen timings/subtimings...and voltage bump to 2.3v already..
@X-Tiramisu
What keyboard & mouse combo do you have? My microsoft one doesn't work holding insert or home, but the logitech does. Both are wireless & both are hooke to a kvm switch.
You've drawed a very good question I've in mind as well. I use the logitech LX700 wireless mouse/keyboard combo and hooked them up to the PS/2 ports. I've USB mouse/keyboard options dissabled in BIOS at first but then tried enabled them again and the insert or home doesn't quite work for me either way. (I tried the INS and Delete keys on top of the up/down/left/right bottons and as well as the Ins and Home key on the Num key pads sections on our far right of the keyboard.
Maybe there are options I should enable/disable for the mobo to properly recognize my PS/2 connection keyboard upon booting up? (I followed FCG guide to setup my BIOS w/ a little minor diff but they aren't related to this area)
*EDIT: OK, this is VERY WEIRD, the home key actually works! but only when my OC hasn't failed yet. I'm at 480FSB now which is near the threshold of a possible failed OC, and I just pressed and hold the home key to see what happends and the mobo just reset the FSB value back to 266 * 7 multi I selected...The home key doesn't seems to work anymore once my OC fails and on a booting cycle.
Thanks for your help Nemesis.:)
Me too, but I've got 3 arrays on it.
When I run memtest on my RAMS on DIMM1 & 3 or 2 & 4 I could hear noticeable clicking/squeaking sound comming from the rams...often the sound is in a loop of clicking/squeaking kind of sounds...sound preety scary and I feel like the rams are deteorating from the memtest test...I hardly notice these kind of sounds when I used the same pair of rams on other boards...or maybe becouse my side cover was closed and now it's off so I could hear the sounds whereas I didn't noticed b4??
I've everything at stock volt and speed.
oh and so far no mem errors...
Could someone with a Quad Core over 360 Mhz FSB post the BIOS settings here ? Many thanks.... I'm still on 320Mhz range :(
Hey guys, looks like my OCZ platinum rev2 PC6400 isn't willing to go over ~499 - 500+ FSB on 1:1 ratio no matter how I tried with the voltage, timings and sub-timings, Mode 1,2 and 3...and the system will just freeze after posting. That was on *7 multi by the way so it's still quite a bit away from reaching CPU max clock speed.
Any recommandation for the best cost-performance ratio 2GB PC-8500 ram kit?
 :D

ps. I have mouse and keybord - both usb
Wow, this board is hard to tweak lol..... Mine did 507fsb at stock volts out of the box, 3days later im still at 507fsb lol...... Highest Ive done is 540fsb but with slow settings:( , from what Ive seen this board is hell on rams.......
NCIX has some killer deals right now for D9s..... $149 for Ballistix pc8000 and I heard $126 for Firestix...
Hello !
I have recently bought this board and I have a big problem. Please Can you help me ?
I have configured all values in BIOS (voltages, cpu clock, ...) but when I start Windows sometimes my PC restarts. If Irun orthos, in two or three seconds my system stops. I thought this is the PSU (Tagan 480W) but today I put a Antec 550W and the problem are the same.
I have 2x1Gb GSKILL DDR2 800 HZ's and this problem is when I put two sticks for Dual Channel. If I put only one stick this problem doesn't exist. It's very curious but with one stick the systems runs perfectly, and I put other pair of sticks differents and have the same problem.
Is the memory controller ?
Will I RMA the motheboard ?
Sorry by my bad english.
Thank you
what happens if you change dq calibration. i had similar issues, but changing dq to 5 or 6 (auto is 4), and setting vsb to 1.6v bought me about 6 hours of stability. still trying to figure out why it won't last all the way through
edit: anyone know what's up with the alarm that goes off sometimes when you power on, right before it beeps for the post
wow! this is just absurd. seems like this board doesn't like firestix with gkx. I had two extra sticks that I've never used and gave them a try. Won't even pass post at 500fsb. Tinkering with dq calibration now. Already have generous voltage bumps and weak timings
edit: hmm, either the dfi doesn't like the xfinity600 or this ram is bad. it won't even work with stock settings
edit: wow this sucks. looks like at least one of the firestix i haven't tested is bad. threw in both old sticks and it's passing memtest now
Hey guys,
I just received all my parts for a new computer. I bought this mobo and here comes the problem(s).
When i try to turn it on, it goes on, turns off and then turns on again. Well, it worked for first couple times, now it turns on and turns off. I need to try few times before it actually boots.
And this is not the end. When it finally turns on, the first screen goes very slowly, the HDDs, CDroms, everything. After about 2 minutes it finally launches. Even in BIOS it is very slow, when i hit down on the keyboard it takes couple seconds before it actually goes down in the menu. Same thing happens when i try to install Windows. It just takes ages so I turn it off.
Anyone knows whats going on? Any help would be appreciated. :)
Computer specs:
Intel C2D E6600
DFI Infinity P965-S
G.Skill 2x1gb pc6400
Evga 8800gtx
Raptor 150gb
CDrom Lite-On on IDE
Corsair 620HX W
Cheers
Yes.
Small addition: I noticed that when i disconnect mouse and ethernet cable it works fine.
Another update: POST and BIOS works fine now. Still I have problems with booting up the computer. It turns on, then off, then on again ( rarely ), usually just turns off.
Anyone? :)
bleh. set it to loop test5 and it locked up after 13 passes. the + in memtest86+ is still blinking but it's pretty frozen. grrrrrrr
edit: whoops. i forgot to set dq again. put it to 5 and it's going longer again. although i've already proven that 5 still eventually crashes. but i did already do a memtest where it passed, so who knows
After a few days OC with this mobo, I'm not super impressed nor dissapointed.
Actually my past DS3 could just do the same...and same goes for P5B-Dx....This board doesn't like my OCZ rams too much either unlike the DS3 that I could take it up to 500mhz 1:1 4-5-4-15 at 2.2v. Even with some tweaking in the subtiming and various combinations of auto, normal, fast, mode 1 2 3..etc..and relatively ample volts, it's hard to get the rams stable near 500mhz...
Besides that, the CPU isn't doing so great on this board as well, I was able to reach near 3800mhz and Orthos stable for a few hours only but with this mobo , I could only do a touch higher than 3700 w/ 225mv(0.225v from stock) = 1.475v and already reach temp like 66 degrees.....
I'm glad I didn't get in the HYPE and paid for like $250+ or something for this so called to be the best OC board...It may have high potential with CERTAIN hardwares but not all....the board is def picking for your WHOLE configuration.
I was hoping that this mobo could take my Overclocking-ability to the next level but I guess the result doesn't turn out to be too optimistically...
I'll wait and see if the new P35 chipset board will do better and I've my heart leaning towards gigabyte for now as it's still the most exciting OC board i've tested up to this point...DFI may be only on par with it or maybe worse in terms of the configuration I've setup...
Crap...now Orthos failed after a little more than 1 hour at 3707mhz...!!! looks like this board does even worse than on my P5B deluxe...ARRRGGG!!!!
I got this board about a week ago, been playing around with it...
Not very impressed either, not dissapointed too...
E6400 629b will run 8x500 on 680i mobo, 2x1gb Ballistix 1000 5-5-5-15, will not run 1000 on this board, slow settings, fast, doesnt matter, will not pass post..
@900 the rams will run 4-4-4-12 wtf..
is a nice board, but I was expecting more out of it, currently @ 8X450
Trying for 7x500 or better, but no, the rams wont go 1000...... tied geil and kingston cause i have them.. both ddr800 and will run 1100 on other boards..
Just don't know if its me or the board.

It's the board bud.
We're in the same condition that we had the same rams that we tested on other board that could do ddr2 1000 but on this board, we'd have a hard time to post at and beyond ddr2 1000. I mean in the end if we can all think about the price we paid for...only like a little more than $150 USD or $180 CDN...it's not tooo shabby afterall.
But since we're xtreme OC'ers, money isn't really the main point here IMHO. If I can take a $300 board overclocking-ability to the max...it's worth EVERY PENNY but a $150 board can only do a half ass decent job..it's the WHOLE $150 DOWN THE DRAIN IMHO. It's either an A+ or a F...no inbetween rule by my standard and I think a lot of overclocking enthusiasts will agree with me...
Time to move on to P35....this is happening sooner than I expected...
*Once again I've learned my lesson the hard way....despite the great reviews that have being brain washing many readers out there...the result on one's own case can never be promised...there's always a risk when comes to overclocking, you may be lucky or you don't.
10-4
I whole heartedly agree with you..
only reason i got this board is the crappy raid performance on the nvidia chips.. got 3xraps in zero and 3x500gb r5 - I guess this board is going to ebay as soon as the p35 comes my way..
Guys this board takes a bit of tweaking on some ram modules. It likes micron D9's but not all of them. I know there was alot of hype about 500FSB right out the box with no increase in voltages, & for the most part that is true. But thats mostly with memory @ 1:1. I can't seem to get my board to run past 509FSB 1:1 X 8. No matter if I lower the multiplier or increase the voltages, I can't get back to the 515FSB I was running when I first got the board. I'm going to put together my second one tomorrow and see if it fairs any better. The RD600 also clocked my 6400 higher than this board. On the RD600 I got 3820 12hours orthos stable. On this board its topping out @ 3730. Funny thing is, it topped out there on the 680i boards as well, and on the P5B Deluxe a little over 3.6ghz was the max. So I believe every cpu won't reach identical clocks on different platforms. This board has gotten me the highest 1:1 overclock on the cpu though. :)
Question is, Nem, Are you able to run your rams above 1000?
doesnt matter, at 7 or 8 X400 no voltage increase and its up and running great, mems at 800, I believe this is 1:1
450 with slight V increase accross the cpu and nb is all good, mems at 900..
get close to 480 and it craps, 500 is a definate no go, I'll keep tweaking it, it was cheap at $130 and it seems the Raid performace is good.
also, if im running 8x400 and manually set the rams to 1000 it craps, was hoping it was just some stupid timing issue, but its probably my rams, suppose I should get some crappy patriots :P
Just why do these Ballistix make so much noise during memtest and orthos blend...
I'm not too sure it is the rams, could be coming from the caps or something... high pitched noisy noise..
guys pure easy to hit 600 ....

Could you post your bios settings? I think you have a value or two that may need to be changed. Also could you make a sig with your hardware or maybe just list your ram etc. I've had no trouble running my ram @ 500FSB & above. I just want more than the 509FSB I've reached.

set dq to around 4 and work from there, i have friends who are running 535-540 fsb on around 1.4vnb, the dq setting is proving pivotal for them...
Remember you are dealing with a locked 266 strap over 400 fsb , unlike the earlier 965 boards that auto set 1333 fsb when up in the 500's, giving the oc'er and easier time getting to that point, unless you clock gen'd up from the 266 strap within xp...
regards
raja
Guys having problems need to work on their configs, and be sure the 266 strap is set. This board is very capable when set up right. I see you got 400 2:3 working Nemesis, without all the vdimm :D
Which direction do you suggest to go from there first? Up or Down for Micron GMH?
Yes, I'm having so much fun tweaking this board to see what it can do, I haven't opened the second one yet. I also have the DFI 680i LT on the way too. Should be a fun next couple of weeks:)
^ above, it's either you've too much money or the place you get all your boards has too good to be true return policy..:p
Anyways...I think I'm back stable at 3.7Ghz....it's weird that I've to max the VTT to 1.5v and that seems to do the trick to make my CPU stable at this speed. I was not able to pass orthos more than 30min ~ 1 hour under Small FFT or blend and now it's priming away +2 hours with additional 2 instance memtest to stress the mem...but the temp does get kinda high for my E6700 at low-mid 60's but at only 1.43v under load...
Indeed, I'll try a bit more tweaking, hopefully I'll get a fair bit more improvment from every aspect higher clock speed vs lower voltage here and there..
4 seems the central point, Kris thinks, lower skews left and higher skews right. Oskar did say that each cpu/mem config will need tuning for dq. Don't forget that MCH's vary in overall ability too, and that's something that neither you or the board can change..
Definitely try tweaking DQ calibration and see if it helps. I'm in the exact same boat as you with 500fsb not being stable at all, and 450x8 working just fine.
It does have its great appeal when memory enhance are on fast, so I'm trying my best to get the thing going.
I had the exact same symptoms as you, but doing the following seems to have bought me general stability, with the ability to pass 6+ hours of orthos large / blend. However, I won't accept that as stable, so am still working on it, hoping to get it fully stable.
But what I have done was this: bump pcie to 105. change vsb to 1.6v. and fiddle with dq calibration. I've found that 1, 3, and 4 (auto) result in poor conditions with it getting stuck on post or windows boot. Then I tried 7 and managed to get in windows, but orthos small fails right away with rounding error (usually 0.4 when should be 0.5). Then I tried 6, and it crashed after 8 hours. 5 was the same. But 5 and 6 have gotten me the farthest I was able to get. Wonder if there's anything else I'm missing that needs tweaking some how.
FWIW, if I leave dq to auto, memtest test5 will lock up after about 4-8 passes. I have dq set to 5 at the moment and am on my 22nd test and chugging along.
Thanks for your share of infos on the DQ setting, I've tried 5 but it doesn't quite help with the settings I set...I've a feeling that this board definetely needs a combination of right settings to shine better. Only one or two changes here and there won't make much significant...This board does take a lot more patient and skills to work with...and I'm working with it as every min goes by...I'll keep you guys updated..:)
yeah, it definitely seems to be a lot of effort. I was driven to exhaust all the settings because of dfi's track record, and it has helped a little, but I'm not there yet. I am quite a bit jealous though of all the people who got 500+ without touching a thing. just my luck i guess ;)
Exact how I feel too, I envy those suckers!!:D :D
They may just have the right components that's feeding the mobo and making it happy to work with...
This board may be a keeper becouse I suspect with various tweakings and the right components for it will probably make him the king of the hill.
my nb @ 517 right there is 1.35
guys on ideas on this probelem i am having :
P965-S - windwos install raid problem:
hi,
i have 2 hard drives both seagates (300,320) when i set raid in bios and then set them up in intel storge to be raid 0 64k.
but when i try to install windows xp in raid i have problems.i hit f6 and have the disk in the floppy and when it asks me to specify i click on the "intel desktop raid drivers" and then load them and then when it says "loading windwos" i get a blue screen saying "stop:0x0000007b" i have googled this and it seems to be a driver issue but i have tried the drivers on 2 diffrent foppys.i have also flashed the bios to the newest.and i have tried the installation in single/non raid arrey and windows get past the part where i usally get the blue screen and i can then seee my 2 hdds.
also when i click on speciy and click on the intel drivers it pops up saying "the driver provided seems to be newer then the default driver"
windwos allready has a driver that you can use for "intel ***************** sata raid controller"
i try using the windwos default drivers as it says allso but it does not show any hard drives up in the install area.
any advice apricated.
make a new floppy works fine for me
This DFI board is an Infinity version, wait until you get your hands on a Lanparty if you think this BIOS is tricky ;)
awhir,
Make sure you have the correct drivers, try the installation on a single drive to be sure your installation settings/media is OK.
yep i am using the right drivers and have tried with both hdds in single and they worked with windows.
i have tried 2 foppys also.
im getting really annyoed since i really want to use raid.
@ awhir
You said you are using the newest bios. If you are using a SATA optical drive check that that the bios is 04/24. That is the only version that will work. Also try to zero out both drives. RAID setup on this board should be flawless.
Finally after changing DQ setting to 5, i was able to get my system pass OCCT.

Hello.
I have new info of my problem.
Finally I think the problem is vdimm that I apply to my memory.
My memory is G. Skill 2GB F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ with Micron D9GMH.
If I put 2,1v the systems seems to be totally stable, but If I put 2,2v Orthos hangs in no more than 1 minute. If I put 2,3v sometimes windows don`t start.
I think my memory is very good and I saw more people that have the vdimm with this memo set to 2,2 or 2,3.
My PSU is Tagan 480W, but I test with a Antec 550W and have the same problem.
What is my problem ?
Since DQ configuration setting is under DRAM section so tweaking with it will only effects the stability of the rams am I correct?!
If you're more likely to have an instability with the CPU then tweaking with the DQ won't help right?
In effort to avoid frustration, I'm now switching to my second board. I can't get the current board to bench past 509FSB with 4 different kits of ram & adjusting the DQ etc on each kit. I'm hoping this board just won't do more & I have some clue as to what I'm doing. I report back in a bit.
I think I'm about ready to try out one of the new Asus, Gigabyte, MSI P35 chipset boards. This board just doesn't want to get stable with high FSB or memory clocks.
i left every thing @ auto cept drive str 2 and 1 just those and 4.4.4.12 31 so simple even with my weakest memory i could do those ss's
keep pcie to 100 for high clocks, I found this better 500fsb and over..
...
I wish I could. I tried with 100 a lot since it was recommended, but doing so usually results in my jmicron devices not being detected and windows flaking out either with a lock up at boot, restart, or corrupt file errors. Or it will hang at the bottom of post or hang in memtest. :(
Damn it...now later in pages on this thread, I begin to read negative reports for this board. This is by far the hardest OC board I've tested as you reach higher FSB / clock speed, and I really missed the days I could easily acheive +500FSB with my past DS3 Rev3.3, E6700 and the same pair of OCZ Platinum Rev2 PC6400 ram on 1:1 ratio.
I cannot do 1:1 over 499FSB no matter how I tried. The system will post but immediately locked up or freeze before windows starting to load. I'm still at x8 multi and @ 460FSB and it's currently priming OK. I'm certainly being cut back by my temp from low to mid 60s @ 3680. I'll try to apply the AS5 the correct way by adding 1 thin vertical line across the centre of the IHS. I'm serious thinking to upgrade my current air cooled 9700NT to best ones like Tuniq Tower 120, Thermalright Ultra Extreme 120 or wait for the new Thermalright IFX-14.
I'll be on the look out for the new P35 DS3R or DS4 Gigabyte board, they seems to be promising and around the same price range....and at this very moment, I speculate I may not be alone to leave this family....:(
My only hope is a magic BIOS update will enhance the board's overclocking-ability or I'll just go find a better and easier overclocking board and better future-proof..
having the system lock up on post, have you ever noticed jmicron devices dropping out? try 101 pcie and 1.6vsb and see if it buys time
^ if the above msg is related to me, then yes, I've set my PCI-E at 105 and SB 1.6, VTT 1.28, so basically all the sub voltage setting a notch higher over stock. I don't use Jmicron as I setup my SATAII HDD & DVD-ROM as native IDE.
guys okk installed on 1 hddd.
guys anyone got any timings for crucical balltix 6400 ??????

It's 100% related to the driver, a bad floppy drive, or a bad floppy. I use a USB TEAC floppy drive, recent floppies, and the latest F6 install from Intel under 965 drivers. Also, an unattended XP OS install disc can create problems if not made correctly. Rather than doing that manually, you might try nlite. It's fairly simple, click on the driver you want and it'll stick it on the disc and load wo/ issue. Good luck!
500 workin' wo/ too much trouble... *rub, rub* :stick: Tho, I paid many a late night bumblin' around w/ that P5B Deluxe.
haha rubbing salt in my wound I see :)
I seem to be the farthest I've ever gotten so far.
I'm using my fresh d9gkx sticks in the blue slots (2/4). I've found these sticks require 2.2v set instead of 2.125v of my other pair, but whatever. Resting a 120 on there at the moment. When I want to finalize, I'll screw back on the ocz xtc cooler.
Testing with 1.35vnb, 1.6vsb, 105pcie, dq5, and it's been doing large for over 9 hours now without a hitch. That beats my old record of 6.5hrs before lockup. Crossing my fingers for full 24 :).
Hi guys:
I need some pointers from here.
I've finally stablized my E6700 at 3667mhz with 1.42v / +200mv BIOS, 8 * 458. I used Orthos "small FFT's" to stress the CPU only to avoid possible errors reporting from the RAMs and + 8 hours OK! BUT...I could not pass Orthos "blend - stress CPU and RAM" test for more than 30mins -____-
This board is certainly kind of tricky to tune right and that's at 1:1 ratio already at FSB458...
I had my voltage bumped to 2.20v in BIOS, Smart Guardian is reading 2.22v. I'm a bit frustrated at this point becouse previous C2D board I've tested could easily do +450mhz(DDRII 900) with only 2.2v and that's even 4-4-4-15 timings, Gigabyte DS3 was the best among them at 500mhz, 1:1, 4-5-4-15, and rest of the subtimings left Auto. Now with this board, I've even loosen the timings to 4-5-4-15 and rest of the sub-timings AUTO meaning quite LOOSE by default....I've tried mode 2 for DDRII configuration and it failed after 14mins (Orthos "BLEND" only)...@!%*
I know the GTL + Driving strength got nothing to do with our C2D CPUs according to FCG and the DFI club's OC guides so tweaking with it matters not here..?!
I've my Enhanced data transmitting/addressing at FAST/FAST. (According to one of the official guide from DFI club, one admin tested the exact same RAMS I've, OCZ Platinum Rev2 PC6400 4-4-4-15 stock) and he had his configurations for the Enchanced data also enabled FAST/FAST at clock speed a little faster than 450mhz (DDRII900) with 2.2v as well and rest subtimings also on AUTO.
Here's my detail configuration:
NB = 1.48v
SB = 1.6v (one notch from stock)
SB Terminal = 1.10v (one notch from stock)
VTT = 1.28v (one notch from stock)
DRAM = 2.22v

Tried Auto/ Mode2/ and now Mode3 Orthoing Blend..

Sorry, I havn't being getting good night sleep for the past few days. In fact I'm actually living on a different time zone...you know what i mean...@@!...as I just woked up..crazy...lol
Those of you having trouble getting your boards to or above 500FSB, where did you purchase them & what serial is on the box? My first board from eWiz s/n U7150XXXX has no trouble reaching 505FSB with no increase in voltages, but I'm capping @ 509-515. My second board from newegg s/n U7170XXXX will not reach 500FSB with the exact same hardware & settings as the other. I even tried tweaking all my settings from scratch to no avail. So there you have it guys, as mentioned earlier by raja I believe, not all NB's are equal so not every board is gonna hit 500FSB right out the box. I didn't bother to see where the second board ended up yet. I've got an E4300 I need to test so I'm gonna drop it in. I've reassembled my original configuration with the eWiz board & I'm now trying to get 3.8ghz 12 hours orthos stable.
I have the same setup as you but with the e6600. Could you post your memory settings for me ? Here is what I have. Stable (orthos 2hrs + occt 30min) @ 3711 @ 1.5volts. I haven't yet tried to over clock the ram and wonder how far you can push them.

Oh btw. The thermalright ultra 120 rocks. 25c idle and 55c load in a 70 degree room @ 1.5volts. Im thinking of trying to get to 4 ghz at 1.6volts. Do you recommend 1.6volts for 24.7 ? What's the max volts I should go if I want my CPU to last 2 years?
very nice.. :D
Why do you guys tweak the settings for GTL+ strength? Do you all have quad cores?? This is something I learned from the FCG/DFI Club's guide that GTL only matter with quad cores is that right?
I wonder why is it placed under DRAM configuration category?
People who changed its setting from auto, what differences did it make?
Now, I'm finally able to do Orthos BLEND for my rams (2hours and 40mins). It seems by changing the DDR configuration to MODE 3 does the trick. I wasn't able to do Orthos Blend for more than 15 ~ 30min while I put it on AUTO and MODE 2. So only changed it to Mode 3 and the rest of the configuration stays the same to avoid confusion.
I'll slowly chasing the rams setting away...:)
Answer to Nemesis: Your response kind of scared me....! Becouse your second board and the one I've have exact same serial # so this definetely draws something interesting for U7170 DARKs. But please don't take me in for an account just yet becouse it's highly possible that I'm capped by my rams becouse they're not the native DDRII1066 and D9 chips that all of you have..But as for the record, I was able to push my DDRII800 all the way up to DDRII 1000 with only 2.2v on the DS3 Rev3.3 so the love bond from that board is definetely stronger than on the DARK.....:(
DARK! you need to stop be so picky for which types of rams GOES IN your nice DIMM SLOTS...lol
Any inputs you'd like to share, please post your findings with all of us :D
I don't have native 1066 memory either. All of my ram kits are gmh's 3 G. SKill 6400 HZ's & one Crucial 25th Anniversary. I also have some Cosrair 8000UL's, but none helped the second board hit 500FSB or the first get past 509FSB. I'm gonna go ahead and order some Crucial PC8500's and see what happens.
yenclas
we have the same ram but I put 2.25-2.3v on mine depending on the FSB. I've not run less than 450FSB on this board so I've not set vdimm to anything lower than 2.25v. I don't get any hard locks like you're experiencing until I get above 500FSB. Again it sounds as though you have something set too tight. What do you have tRFC set too? If auto, try 35 or 42. I have one kit of G. Skill 6400 HZ's that can do 1066 with 2.25v but on this board they didn't do squat above 500FSB.
