Is it just me or does the building look straight and the tower isn't?

Pentax K20D + Kitlens
Thats pretty awesome HDR.. Pentax is pretty good it seems.. wish they make FF. But maybe we will get MF instead. :D
Erh, sorry...I dont even know what FF and MF is?!? :D Plz explain :)
FF= Full Format / Full Frame
MF = Medium Format / Crop
Dunno about "crop" as medium format is bigger than FF. :) Usually its 0,7x coeficient.
medium format isn't crop, it's even larger than FF ;)

to redeem myself, i'll post one of my recent photo's :)

Cool one.. maybe is Nikon right and 12mpix is enough. :)

The chalet which is the main feature of the shot, is just past the Prarion Ski lift in Les Houches and is part of a new development from chalet and apartment builds, "MGM". The background of the shot is Mount Blanc and i tried to capture the "White Mountain", without the normal "Hat". His hat is normally a small area of cloud resting around the top of the peak in the winter months.

Metric, any changes to your process? What programs are you using now? Been a little while since I messed with HDR. Normally I export from LR2 to Photomatix, do the work then port back.
I've moved to solely ACR and Photoshop. Luminous Landscape has a excellent thread on creating images with visually zero noise by exposing for the midtones and shadows by 4 f-stops and then "re-zeroing" the exposure to get clean, smooth midtones and shadows (highlights can be left alone or taken from an underexposed capture if necessary). By working in a 16-bit workspace, I can use adjustment curves to pull up shadows and do tonemapping without worrying about introducing any noise or banding since I'm working with 'perfectly' exposed pixels.
If others are interested, I was planning on posting a How-To sometime in the following weeks. :)
Thanks for that link. I'd definitely be interested, I am always having trouble keeping noise down in HDR compositions, no matter how good my exposure was, low ISO, etc.

The main part of this shot is the snow part leading up though the forest with Mount Blanc in the Background. The forest is a hidden Gem in Les Houches with view of Mont Blanc and clear walking paths which turn into the town cross country circuit during the winter months. The forest boasts many great features from small streams running down rocks, to vast ice walls which locals practise they ice climbing.

A little teaser for my HDR tutorial coming up in the following week or two ;)

Don't let the underexposed image trick you, open the TIFF in Camera Raw/Lightroom/Photoshop and run some fill light or crank up the exposure and pay attention to the shadows :)
Nice ones..
thanks ;)
now buy PS CS5, fix that spot on the last picture, and it will be one hell of a pic, great job!
lol i already fixed it once in pshop but didnt feel like posting it on flickr :P
Fixing flare is hard, usually its easier to make new picture.. not worth it, plus rest of pics is good enough. And hell, its just flare. :D
that's why he needs PS CS5 :)
1 more ;)

Deleted last as it was really too destructive. Now I wonder what you will see, cause its showing me pretty oversaturated on this monitor. :D aRGB vs sRGB is really crazy..

Software manipulated HDR
EDIT: remved, it was just for fun ayways.
And one more, just for fun. The view is more balanced in this one.
EDIT: removed, it was wasting space on Flickr .
If you want single shot HDR, do it from RAW.. JPEG is unusable for this.. That last one is ok, just horizont is bit off and its bit dark.. If you want, upload RAW file somewhere and I can show you what can be done with it. :D
Yeah, but my little Panasonic TZ10 doesn't have a RAW shooting capabilities. I got only JPEG :p:, but it was fun to try anyways. :)
@Mescalamba:
So what program do you use to do HDR just from one picture?? I might have a few that i would like to try to get done as HDR
Beautiful shot of the Tapti River.
Hey thanks, How do you know its Tapti river ??
Photomatix. :) Almost all my pictures on my Flickr are made by using that (one shot HDR, in my case its just bit extended DR, not HDR, as I wanted it to look "normal"). Cause G1 sucked at DR, at least if you dont know few tricks with RAW. :D
Though its bit tricky to set up right.. looong time experimenting to get proper results.
Thats what i use also. Photomatix 3 pro. But i'm only a noob yet, so i haven't tested it to much. Photo programs aren't my kinda thing.. But i try to learn a few things. Not tried HDR with one pic. Don't even know what to do
Well, you need RAW file. Then save that RAW file as TIFF, and save it with default exposure (0eV) and one file with +1 eV and one file with -1 eV. Most cameras can handle this eV shift, you will see if you went too far (colors disappeared and such).
Then you simply load it into Photomatix and do that HDR part. :) It needs lots of tweaking to get desirable result, but it works..
Can't you just use a peogram to save ass tiff an adjust EV on it. Sounds like i have to use the camera?? I use bible5 pro to look at my pics and photomatrix3 pro to set up my hdr shots

I think its called posterization, you have nice amount of it on lower right corner. Though, still nice picture.
no you dont man, all you need is 1 picture, and most hdr apps will make copies, adjust the exposure up and down to the setting you choose and then blend them.
or
you can just create 2 copies, and adjust the exposure up a few and down a few. or tell the program what the exposure setting is, or what it should be.
but again, yes raw is best, always. but jpeg easily does pseudo hdr and can be made to look really nice.
i did the above flower picture with 1 jpeg and didnt even use any hdr software. i used photoscape and clicked the "backlight" button about 5 times.
any further and it really started showing that halo effect form too heavy of hdr.
Yea that posterization is exactly what you get, when you try to do something you cant. :D If you try to get data from place where are no data, well, you get this. :D
Only thing one can get from JPEG is color/contrast/whatever manipulated JPEG. Nothing more, its as close to HDR as water painting.
I would try bit of selective bluring, or create copy of layer, blur it completely, create mask and modify it to mask only posterized places, leaving sharp what you want sharp.
Gaussian blur at 2-5 should be enough, but you will see whats best. :)

There's an obvious, but clearly confused line between HDR imaging + tone-mapping and regular LDR (Low Dynamic Range) image + tone-mapping. The tone-mapping of an HDR image is the process of compressing 16 or 32 bits of image data down to a LDR of 8 or 16 bits while still trying to preserve the scene's original perceived brightness and contrast. In contrast, LDR + tone-mapping doesn't compress or involve any HDR image data at all - it simply takes the existing LDR image data and tweaks it to simulate the tone-mapping effect often seen more-than-enough with "automated" HDR programs such as Photomatix. This is also the reason why many tone-mapped LDR images have excessive noise levels in the dark regions of the image and blown highlights - there's simply not any useful information to work with - clipped white highlights (255, 255, 255) and clipped black shadows (0, 0, 0) can't provide anything - even after any amount of tone-mapping.
This, in my opinion, is a must read for those who want to really understand the meaning of HDR photography: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/essays/hdr-plea.shtml. Additionally, the book titled "The HDRI Handbook" is another excellent paperback source on the techniques and uses of HDRI.
Simply put, each technique has its purpose, appeal, and followers. But my main reason for replying to this is to help differentiate between these two, very popular photography siblings - both may share a common root (tone-mapping), but each are very different in their own respects and shouldn't be confused for one or the other.
/end technical rant

Here's one I made from a picture I took on this years vacation out west.
I used a raw image shot with a D90 with a Nikkor 50 1.8 lens.

hello, this is my firts try into HDR :sofa:

That's a good start.:)
Next time try to tone it down a bit, this is a bit overdone.
Thank You for the hint...will try it next time :)
No problem, here is an example that I've done.
I already posted that picture on the "Picture of the Day" thread; I figured that this is a legit HDR.

Nice shot Buddy

36 exposures in one pic :)
This is a pick i took last November when in Cuba. It is a psuedo HDR shot meaning it was only one shot and then Tone mapped with a software program called ContrastMaster. I hope I am not breaking any rules posting it in the HDR thread.

I went for a drive to the country 2 weeks ago and took my camera to practice taking shots using the bracketing feature on my camera so I could start making real HDR shots. This pic is 2 images as when i tried to use 3 I could not get the branches aligned properly. I think this was due to it being very windy that day? Go easy on me folks as i am just learning to use a camera and this one is not a DSLR... The software used was Dynamic - Photo HDR5.

Nothing special, four exposures...crappy Fujifilm S700 from 4 years ago. I'm broke...but I will see a DSLR down the road hopefully. My dream cam is the EOS-60D :(

Besides photomatix, what are some other nice HDR apps?
You may want to look at Dynamic Photo HDR. http://www.mediachance.com/hdri/index.html
Fusion 2.0.4 http://fusion.ns-point.com/
easyHDR PRO http://www.easyhdr.com/
This gives ya a few to look at...
Having checked out the last few pages I like what I see, I took a pretty nice one of a friend sat at a garden table a few years back. I may just dig it out!
Over the top I know but it looks a little like an oil painting.
