boardonwheels... I used the back of an old clipboard (black one). I took off the clear plastic and taped the clipboard on after cutting it down to size and shape
to the inside of the door.

If you want to maintain the clear feature of the window, here is a custom window I used on my case, (to lower the fan to clear my Infinity).Quote:

or you can cut it altogether... drawback is you have to make new mount holes and repaint the cover to have good finished edges...

3. Nope. If you want the fan LED's off, you have to disconnect the molex connector which means the fan stops spinning.

That depends. Do you consider it a problem? The case does a great job at keeping your system cool but you have to clean it once in a while. Just have a can of compressed air around. You could of course get some dust filters but that will decrease the airflow.Quote:

Well the case is 20.6 cm x 49.3 cm x 46.8 cm and the NV120 is 150 x 128 x 95 mm so it should fit, right?Quote:

Because the PSU is on the bottom, the 4 or 8 Pin CPU power has a long trp.
I got an extension cable and ran it behind the MOBO..

I had to extend the wires on my 8pin connector. Nothing a little solder and heatshrink won't take care of.

You could do what some of us have done and flip the PSU over after cutting a hole in the bottom of the case.
It gives a very clean look...

I just put one of these together for a mate... Nice looking case, but I do have a few gripes.
-The case is quite small, its a bit tricky to get around in there.
-NO room for watercooling.
-Hard to fit a TRUE, though I could do it, I can't have the side fan due to my orientation (Vertical to keep all flow in the same direction)
-Fan LED's are pretty dull, and they're not extremely fast even on the high setting, though they do seem to move enough air.
-Front panel 5 1/2" drive bay covers just fit, dont have clips and either don't sit flush or slid in.
-No power LED indicator?? I dont know what that's about, guess they take it for granted that your leaving the LED fans in there.
That aside, the case looks nice, but doesn't have alot of room for cable managment, or expansion.
The huge fan on the top is wicked. Installation is a little finicky in the tight space, but easy, with easy motherboard layout, no need to line up holes and install standoff's yourself when using standard ATX. Bottem mounting PSU is a nice change though.

Yer I've seen it, and you have actually done an excellent job, but not enough room for me lol. And I hate T-Lines lol.
It is just a bit difficult, and no room for 360 rads, or even dual 240's. Although my armor did take some modding to accomadate a 240+360 rads.
I would love to see a mid tower case that can accomodate a 360 or Dual 240s. :eek:

I managed to fit a 240 Radiator with ease , It took alot of modding to fit it their but it turned out great and its well finished with this A.C Ryan Grill , this case is not perfect for water cooling but it does the job beautifully , I am trying to get my hands on a 2nd 900 for my BTX mod :)

Hey guys! This is my first post. I've been reading this thread over the last couple days and it has inspired me to work on my own 900. I have the old version (no holes in the back panel) and a non-modular PSU so right now it's a mess in there. I plan on buying a new 900 and working on it, while my components stay nice and safe in my current one. I have a couple questions:
1. Once I've cut a couple holes, what's the best way to cover up that rough edge? I see some of you have put some kind of material around your holes. What's that called and where can I buy some?
2. What's the best way to bundle/bind some cables together? I have some generic zip ties but I don't like how you can't undo them once they have been tightened.

Note: I just purchased some round IDE cables to help clean up the clutter. Ribbon cables = bad and I have to have my old IDE HDD in there. So yeah...that's my setup as it is today. Very cluttered and sore on the eyes, I know. Comments, suggestions, tips, etc. are welcome!

Cant help you on tidying up the wires. My case does not have the other side on. I cant figure how people get their wires flat on the back side. Maybe I just need to get a modular PSU.
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Seems like there's very little space between the motherboard surface and the back panel. Anybody here have any struggles with this?
yeah took 1 hell of alot of black gaffa tape to hold down wires still only just managed to get it on tho....

do you really need to cut holes in the case to get nice wires (like the 1st Post)?
and my gigabyte-ga-p35-ds3r is a bit smaller than standard atx case so im worried front panel connectors wont reach
The newest version has 2 large oval holes in front of the mobo tray. If you dont want to cut, you still have a way to get wires out the back. I would still cut one hole for PSU wires to pass through, unless you have a modular.
BTK I have that mobo (see pics above on this page) and the wires reach just fine. no worries. :)

And to the 900 painters...what's the best way to paint the interior black? Just go crazy with a rattle can or what? Did any of you do a more thorough job with sanding, primer, paint, clear coat?

After browsing this thread (really nice mods everyone!) I saw that some of you mount the CPU cooler to blow upwards, and others mount it so it blows to the back. I've made a paint pic of 'my' nine hundred and I was wondering what the best airflow for it would be with a scythe infinity/muugen cooler on a Q6600.

bjp999 is back from the dead! I had no idea that there were so many people that modded their Antec 900s. I stopped getting email notifications and thought that this thread had become inactive. Imagine my surprise to see over 650 posts to the thread I started in Dec 2006. Many of the posted Antec 900s rigs are simply :shocked: Incredible:shocked: !!!
I opened up my case for the first time in about a year to remove one of my HDs. I am moving it to my soon-to-be 5TB unRAID server. (Check out unRAID here, pretty cool). People seemed very concerned that dust would build up inside the case because there are no filters, but the case was almost dust free inside.
I see that some people are flipping their top fans over to act as intake instead of out. I may have to try this when I get some time. I have noticed that I get very little air blowing out of that fan. But since the case was cool, I didn't really care. I think if I flipped it over, it would probably cool even better.
I'll keep monitoring this thread now that I know it is active.

If you are painting the inside flat black, use more than a couple coats. I sanded and self etch primered my inside and after 2 coats of paint, I still get nicks when I move stuff.
Props to the OP and all for the inspiration to attempt this build. :eek: I had so much fun with it every time I finished.. I tore it apart again (4 times!) for more tweaks. Harbor Freight has cheap tools. I wouldn't recommend these for a professional, but they work fine for the hobbyist. Picked up a knockout punch set $15, air nibbler $15, die grinder $5 etc. on sale. The rotary tool had no torque, so I used the accessories with my Dremel.

I was all finished and noticed a PS screw a little c0cked. :shocked: The Vantec Stealth has an aluminum housing and two of the steel screw inserts were loose.. one fell inside when I was taking it apart. Time to go get a modular PS for a cleaner look and what the hell.. another 500G HDD for backups. I'll post build #2 as soon as I get time:

Did you primer your case before painting?
I also have to redo my cable management... installed a second Raptor (for RAID0) and my cabling is really horrible atm :shakes:
But then I also want to paint the inside... so much more nicer to look at :yepp:

NICE! If this is build 1, can't wait to see build 4! Very professional. If I have one regret, it is that the way I did my hard drives makes it hard to get the cages in and out post installation. Looks like you solved that!

Hello everyone, my name is Mike and I happened across this post looking for Antec 900 mod ideas. I have been modding my Antec 900 with a work log with lots of pictures and descriptions over at the mod nation forums. But I thought I would post a few pictures here to show what I have been doing with my Antec 900 case.
First off it great to see that there are several people here that like the 900 case. Seems like a lot of people don't like the case for one reason or another. I loved it the first time I saw it so I bought mine from NewEgg with a discount and a rebate. Anyway on the the mod's. I am only putting a few pictures in because I have so many. You can just look at the index of the folder for more pictures or visit the mod nation forums and view my work logs.
I really liked the look of the 900 so for this mod I wanted to keep it simple and still for the most part keep the case looking the same. I had a certain color scheme in mind and I wanted to change the window on the side. My other hobby is high powered rocketry so I thought I would use that for the theme and I call it Fly-N-High. The mods consist of repainting the entire chassis two colors, changing out the switches with Bulgin switches, front case blow holes with the stock grills behind the panel, adding a handle and the biggest mod, moving the power supply so the cable go through the motherboard tray and not out in front of it. The main reason I did that is I what a really clean wire job where you hardly see any wires at all. This required me to take the PSU apart and rotate the board 180 degrees, remove the old mounting nuts, weld in new mounting nuts, cut a hole in the side of the PSU and fill the old wire loom hole in the front. I am using a brand new Corsair TX 750W PSU to handle the workload of the PC. One thing I did not want to do was cut several holes in the motherboard mount tray to run wires either.

As for the side panels I ordered a new right side panel and I used the other to cut my logo in the side. So if anyone needs a brand new Antec 900 windowed side panel that has never been used (still has plastic wrap on window) I have one for sale as well as both drive chassis without the fan mounts. I cut my logo in the left panel using a jig saw and dremel with a reinforced disk with a lot of filling and sanding.

For the front panel I used a piece of 1/16 satin aluminum kick plate used for a door. I found it at The Home Depot for $14 and this would give me enough for two panels if needed. Well I needed it The first panel came out ok but the circles where not perfect and I did not like the switches on the front plate and I decided to move them back up top where the original switches where and cut a new front panel.

Next a little work on the top plate for the handle. I got a nice spring loaded handle that would lay flat inside the tray that I would never use for anything else. I did have to use some of the aluminum plate to go between the top plastic panel and the top of the case as well as underneath the top panel to reinforce the metal and load weight the handle mounting points would carry the weight of the case. Wooh I hope that makes sense. Anyway here are a couple of pictures showing that mod.

The system consists of Antec 900 (of course), Abit AW9D Max motherboard, Pentium 4 3.2 proc., Thermal Take Silent 775 cpu cooloer, Antec True Power 700w psu, 4 gb Kingston PC6400 Hyper X mem, Asus ATI X800-XT Platinum Edition, 1 Seagate 80gb SATA HDD for OS, 1 Maxtor 160gb HDD for file storage, 1 Lite on DVD and 1 Samsung CDRW and a couple extra 120mm fans in the case.
I'll soon be getting a new Q6600 Intel Quad Core CPU, 2 Saphire ATI HD3870 video cards, 2 Seagate 120gb SATA 3 HDD's for Raid-0 and 2 Seagate SATA 3 500gb for storage, 2 Pioneer Dual Layer DVDRW's w/ Lightscribe, Scythe Ninja Plus Rev b. CPU Cooler and last but not least a new camera to take pics of it all! ALl the old stuff will be going back into my old Raidmax case for the wife to play on.

anyone know if there are good (and quiet) LED fans to replace the noisy tri-cool fans?
Just set them to LOW, the difference in my system (full load) was 2 degrees :P

they're damn noisy though, even on the 'low' setting
i have all other components watercooled and the fans are making me crazy :P

Thx! This is build #2. To be honest everytime I started the M$ installation I found myself looking for excuses to have fun with the case and not deal with the software crap. :cool:
bjp999 - The cages are still a PIA to get in and out. It was easy at 1st, but now I have a lot of wiring for all the fans etc. I wound up using mainly the knockout punch set that deees recommended. I didn't really need the nibbler (cool tool tho) and didn't use the dremel till the 3rd build. The knockout punch set lists the dies by the pipe ID. Add 1/2" to the die size for the actual OD hole size. Ex. the 3/4" die cuts a 1 1/4" hole. You can fit an IDE cable through this by bending the head as shown below. The 24 pin PS connector will fit through a 1 3/4" hole using the same method. If you have a bunch of wires to route, put the cables with the big plugs through the access hole 1st lol. BTW - I think Antec owes you a lifetime supply of Nine Hundreds! Look at what you started. :up:

MetalRush - I found the best look was primer then flat black for the interior. I tried paint only and the result was blotchy. cabbspapp - I only sanded to remove scratches & tool marks (as shown in my 1st post, pic #6). One touch with the die grinder at 20,000 rpm - done. I did experiment by giving the 1st cage a light sand with 400 grit for tooth and no sanding on the second. I saw no difference in the results. Follow the instructions on the paint can. I usually gave 1/2 hour between coats. 1 coat primer, 2 coats flat black. If you wait more than an hour the next coat of paint can wrinkle (and you have to wait 3 - 5 days before recoating). Let the final coat dry overnight before handling. No one is going to wait a week for the paint to fully harden so expect mars. The HDD cages scratch while moving them in and out. If any scratches are visible from the side I touch them up with a black magic marker. This works well for any small scratches. The 1st set of HDD cage pics show the flat black finish. Later pics have a semi flat black paint on them. Semi flat matches the exterior finish well, but I prefer the flat black interior. Painting in the winter sux.. even in CA. Stinks up the house moving the parts inside to dry. This damn camera picks up flaws that you don't see with the naked eye.
sLomax - There are custom holes for the HDDs. You can see the 1 1/4" hole in the side views (final build wound up with 3 on the right and 1 on the left side bays, bottom right is for the HDDs). I also had to file an opening big enough to slip a molex connector through on the HDD cage itself. I used a hand file for this. File the opening where the molex passes through the side:

mbrocketry - sweet PS mod! All - theraputic isn't it :) I gotta quit reading this thread and getting new ideas to try and finish installing M$, yuk (XP, Vista, and Linux partitions).
Build 2 was pretty simple. Add a modular PS and 3rd HDD. The 1st mod was to accomodate the 120mm PS fan on the bottom (added taller case feet in build 4). Time to cut a 5" hole (I should say wear a hole through, the hole saw I used was not for metal):

Build 3 is changing to a slot loading DVDRW. Build 4 adds taller blue feet for airflow to the PS, a blue CCFL, lots more blue fans and a blue backlit kyb. OW|Mommy, my wife and kids like the blue so I went a lil nuts. The Abit IN9 32X-MAX is backlit with blue leds all over the back of the mobo.. looks cool! ;)

What I am wondering is how/where your hdd cabling is going through the case. On 1 of the pictures I see that you created new powercables (3 disk assembly) but how do you get them behind the backplate (or don't you?). Can you take a (detailed) picture of that? I am curious :P
Where did you buy those extra power'plugs' (those 90 degree, blue ones) ?
Also: what did you use to put over the freshly sawed holes (edges) ?

Put the cable connectors through the access hole in the case drive bay. Pull the cable(s) slack out as you guide the HDD cage into the bay (if you feel a bind, back out the cage and make sure the cables are still in the channel).

I found the Knockout Punch set was all I needed for creating access holes. The holes are pretty clean and don't really need a grommet.

I didn't read the negative reviews on this case but, I like it. It does keep everything cooler. I saw the mods you did and just had to follow suit. You did a great job. On mine though when it came to the drive cages I opened up that half moon (upside-down smiley) on the bottom so I could slip the molex connectors through. That way it will be somewhat easier to remove them if need be. I wish I had pics. to better illustrate it. I love this case and how clean it looks. I'm sure it improves airflow without those tangle of wires.
