Biostar TForce P965 Deluxe - 530FSB 1:1 4-4-3-4

im a little pi**ed off right now. i did the exact same vdimm mod as eveybody with 50k vr to the fan header and the 2-3 pins. but now i my board is f**ked up cuz when i try to boot with sata i get sata bios not installed and with ide i get disk read error.:dammit: it detects both hds but it wont support them no more. so i think my board is f**ked. plz dont say did u connect it to the right pin on header cuz i no i put it on the ground pin 110% sure.:brick: if somebody has an answer i would be very happy and thank u alot.

have you cleared CMOS?...if that does not work...re-flash the bios.

yes i cleared cmos and nutin works. this is with the 914rh and 103 so there nutin more i can do i guess its going rma

edit: ive tried everything u could possibly do. it will not boot into windows. sumtimes i can get it into bios or boot screen but if i try sata and windows cd it wont boot into setup. i tried ide and booted into widows cd and started installing windows. it got to were u have to reboot to finish windows and i get hard drive error. its going back to newegg. the vdimm mod erased the sata bios chip and can not boot into windows with nutin. well thanks for your help.

I had the bios chip in my 965pt totaly die durring flashing a few days after I got it. I was able to pull one from a DFI Ultra-D and hotflash the 965pt bios.

I guess I will just be happy with what I got and not try to blow it up, LOL

Just got a tforce965PT rev 1.0 and a Intel E4300

I notice that bios doesn't give me a 1:2 (400) memory divider. Is there a modded bios or work around for this?

how did you set the resistance on the VR before hooking up the Vdimm mod?...you could of spiked the voltage to high and then damaged the southbridge....i had 3 mods on one board and i screwed up by turning the pot in the wrong direction...puff!...it was gone.:D

My deluxe can't post from 370fsb-400. anything other than that its fine. try go higher if u can't post.

Anyway have anyone tried window vista? i'm all prime stable and memtest stable using xp, but can't boot using vista except on stock!!

What about cold boot issue? Its almost everytime I boot it at 500+. Can this be solved by newer BIOS or sth?

the newest bios wouldn't boot with my ram on anything higher than stock, so i switched back to the 914 deluxe bios and i could occasionally boot at 480...but not everytime, first time hitting 480 tonight (479 would boot, but 1 higher wouldn't. Nothing special :\

If you're having trouble with overclocking stability: disable cpu thermal control and c1e in bios. Then disable all options in Control Panel/Power Options. Now bump up your fsb.

It's really weird... I can reproduce that problem. Any time I set 'Turn off monitor' to something else than Never and put my computer to idle, volts and multiplier drop.

I think I have pretty much decided that this board is getting replaced somewhere down the line. It works fine and it was cheap, but I hate knowing that its the only holding back my OC [500x7].

I need a board thats good to 550mhz fsb and then I should be golden. I'm confident that this chip can do upwards of 7x540, considering it will run at 3.5 [7x500] on about 1.38V.

BTW guys, the new bios only seems to add e4300 support. I tested it and it overclocks exactly the same as the 103 bios.

I don't think so. The beauty of this board is the SUPER EASY vdimm mod. I hate vmods and I was able to do it and run 2.5v easily.

the easy vmod fried my board and dont know wut happened. possibly fried southbridge i will have new one in a week or 2. could somebody plz post the exact way they did theres. i used the stilt pic of the vmod but i seen there was one you could soldier on the board too. would going up to 3.25 volts for the vdimm mod frie my board it was only there a second and turned back down. but it worked after that and posted with the mod out then i put it back in and thats when board would boot no more :( . i hope my new board i am able to use the 1.55(1.8x) nb voltage settings for benching.

Soldered to the board? That doesn't sound right. I used a 10k VR instead of a 50k because this is much easier to adjust. One side goes to a ground (fan header ground is easiest) and the other goes to the DDR2.2v jumper. PM me if you need some help.

don't beat on yourself!...many of us including myself have done the very same thing that you did...mistakes are made, drawings misinterpreted or you rush through the project without checking the connections before applying power...i personally stay away from vmods now and try to buy a board that has it built in.:cool:

so if i do the stilt mod and dont take it over 2.4 volts i should be fine? this is the mod i did to the exact wire it was the same thing but i had a 3 pin fan plug with it in the ground spot it did work i was measuring perfect volt but i took it up to high and i think i messed board up cuz after that it was all down hill. 3.25 volt was a little to high i think lol.

you probably overvolted the memory circuit...i overvolted the northbridge by going beyond 3.8v...it was a split second and the board was dead...your mem vmod setting was probably a tiny bit above specs for the circuit...it probably did a slow burn to death of the circuit.

Just as an update guys...

I put my pc outside while it was cold a few days ago and got it to -4c idle @ 1.5v, 14c load. I got a whole 15fsb increase in overclock...kinda disappointing, seeing people can do better than that on regular air.

I've got a few bucks to blow...should I try for a e6600 in the price drop coming up, or a new mobo? I don't want to try both right away, either one or the other.

is a p5b dlx still a better board?

Hey guys I am facing a problem with this board, it started by changing in the time, it kept changing the time to 3 hours earlier, also every time I push the power on I had to close my monitor and then open it again in order for the picture to come
I do not know how far this could be related to the motherboard itself but anyway the more serious part comes after a week of using the board, I tried to update my BIOS to this version :P96bac29.bst throw the BIOSTAR software then it asks me to restart, after the restart everything is black blank nothing comes out, and both of the diagnostic lights are off, it usually both red means everything is OK :woot:
Then I opened my case and pushed the reset buttons about three times with no success, but later it worked but still both red lights are off
In Biostar book it says that if both lights are off this means that there is a problem related to the Chipset or the CPU, my CPU is 6400 and I believe it has no problem, what could be the problem and should I replace this BOARD?
Also to mention using Scythe Ninja my CPU used to record around 28C now and after this problem it reaches 40C, I am using Core temp

I have updated to BIOS P96CA119.rh2 it seems to be working just fine lights back to red, but still the Core temp is showing high TEMPs around 40C although the board utility showing around 28C the same like another software calls PC wizard, but I really do not know who to trust!

Unfortunately coretemp is about the only accurate temperature monitor out there. The biostar sensor is appalling though It claimed my c2d was running at -2C today not bad in 20C ambient on air :p:

This WOULD be my server board of choice based on the price but for whatever reason Biostar decided those of us in the US don't deserve the Deluxe version.. It's a shame because it looks like it came with a bunch of cool extras in addition to the onboard features I need.

I need a good OC'ing cheap board with 6 SATA ports.. I already have a DS3 and I don't want an S3... nothing else is in the 100-125$ price bracket...

This board is NOT Antec P180 friendly.. there's no way I could get the 24pin ATX around my GPU to plug it in..

As much as I want to buy this board I can't.

It explains that when the jumper placed on pins 1 and 2 we can adjust the voltage from the CMOS but when we place the jumper on 2 and 3 pins 2.2V is applied automatically and we cannot adjust the voltage in the CMOS, I do not know this part dose not make any sense to me
This part is talking about the "JDDR11_2.2V" jumper

he did the vmod its very easy just scroll up the page i posted a pic no soldiering involved on the motherboard. im gonna try it again i have a e6300 on the way now be here next week. ill keep ya posted.

I've had this board now for a month and a half and have become pretty fond of it. Its great board for the money.

Mine seems to have topped out at 508x7 with the e6300, regaurdless of what voltages I use.

That's not bad at all. My E6300 is FSB walled at 460 with 1.38 volts. I can pump 1.5 volts into it, max out the MCH, makes no difference. Same wall in a DS3 as well, except the DS3 is a POS. I'll replace it when the new low-end 4MB cache chips come out in Q2.

Look here for an explaination of how the Vmod works.

tried the stilt mod again on my new board it makes a loud pitch sound so i took it off and thought i fried another board. i dont understand i do the exact vmod to the wire. im using a 50k ohms trimmer could that be my problem? here a few pics of today seeing how my cheap ddr667 super talent overclocks. pretty good for a $50 stick of ram it topped out at ddr 1040@5-6-6-18 at 2.1 volts.

@natedog, did you measure how many volts you were giving the mem? as I can do the mod fine upto 2.4v anymore and it wont post. My board also screeches under heavy gpu and cpu load or if I put 1.8v through the NB :p: I guess in simple terms it's because the board is struggling to deliver the power. :toast:

P.S. I'm hoping to knock down all your intel 511 scores very soon ;).

heres a little update using stock 914 bios too. 2.2 jumper on 2 and 3 position. ya i measured the volts it said 0.65 with a high pitch noise from top right corner of the board. i set 50k trimmer to .000 with ohms meter and put it on and thats wut happened. i can turn the trimmer counter clockwise and get .047 with ohms meter so i figured .000 would be the right way does that sound right or no? well heres the pics.

Don't use a 50k trimmer, use a 10k. Will work much better.

I really now started to totally doubt in the accuracy of Core Temp, I updated my system to BIOS 119 and the Core Temp was showing 42C and that really shock me because before the update it was showing 28C now I am back to 114 version and Core Temp is showing 28C

well heres my results from my new e6300. the batch number is Q649A178. im not sure wuts holding me back yet i will have different ram to try very soon. it goes a couple mhz above 500fsb and the system locks and i have to restart it no blue screens or nothing just a simple lock up so please let me no wut you think about that.

vcore: 1.7v, 1.76v doesnt help
mch: 1.45v, 1.55v doesnt help
fsbv: 1.4v, 1.5v doesnt seem to help
very loose timings 5-6-6-20 at 2.20v all memset subtimings are very loose

anybody try this pencil mod on there 965pt yet. i might try it myself.:) . if u did try it wut was the out come.

i will confirm that the vdimm pencil mod works great for me. go up to 2.3v with no problems. didnt try any higher so thats up to you. made my memory hit ddr1100 cas 5.:) :D heres the link i stumbled across.

Hey guys, just a quick question i was hoping one of you could answer for me. Im using the latest bios on Rebel Haven currently.

I have a Biostar 965PT w/ a E6300. I currently have it at 1.225v at 401*7 = 2800mhz. The system is completely rock stable at this setting and i can stress test it all day and play any game i want and nothing goes wrong. Here is where the problem begins however. Using Memtest i test the memory all the way up to 450mhz and it runs the test multiple times without any sort of problem. At 430*7 with 1.275v it can run Orthos all day without any problem, can do any Super PI measurement, etc. However the moment i start a game (such as F.E.A.R. or Company of Heros) the game will freeze within a minute or two. Hard lock kinda freeze. The ram is good up to 450, im running it at 430, its orthos stable at 1.2625v i have it at 1.275v, etc.

I thought it was power at first, however a new Crucial HX620 power supply didnt help the situation. Im not really complaining about this, i just have NO clue what the problem is and was wondering if you guys had any ideas. Thanks. Im figuring its a Bios issue, like maybe the PCI bus not being locked, but i assume its locked all the time (PCI-E bus is locked at 100).


Also - does this board support Quad Core? Havent seen an official response. Thanks.

IF you running Visa 64 bit edition, your cpu will most likely need more voltage. I've heard of this occurring on both AMD, and Intel processors.

my board will boot at 449fsb stable and 450 no boot and dont know why. but i can clockgen up no problem. my cpu seems to be wuts holding me back. i gained a few mhz from chilled water but cpuz validator seems to be not working right now so i cant post the results yet. but heres a screen of 500fsb. and im not to sure about this new stepping and revision.

I got the exact same no boot at 450fsb but 100% stability at 449fsb problem from the official 103 bios too. Stilts bios is fine for me to boot 450+ though so I'm still sticking with that. :toast:

Is it safe for me to be running this board at 500 fsb with the stock northbridge cooling? Just got done stress testing it but dont know if i should keep it there.

well i dont have a insane fsb but i did the little mod to my e4300 to get it to boot at 266x9 stock and with my phase machIIgt it is doing very nicely with this board, a few problems though i cant use any ram divider higher then 1:1 when ocing (and i have the nice ddr1000 4-4-4-12 cellshock) which really bumms me out

the best bios's i have used are the havens mod 921 and 914 currenty trying the 914 and it seems pretty stable at 440x9 with 1.55 vcore, heres a quick 2 hour occt run i did with a 1m run

I need some advice for cooling the northbridge on this puppy guys. The northbridge on my board literally just burned my hand when i touched it! Im at 490fsb 1.45mch in bios (1.65 actual reported). I really wish this board wouldn't overvolt like it does.

Put a fan over it or get a new NB heatsink:)

is it possible for me to take a fan and just kinda make it work on the old heatsink? Just take some screws and force the fan into it? What size fan would i need for that?

The fan is a perfect fit, however i cant just screw it in because the fins on the heatsink are too spaced out. Anyone have some suggestions on how to attach it? Thanks.

all you have to do is take a pair of needle nose pliers and squeeze the fins a little closer. thats what i did before i got my swiftech nb cooler.

The TT ES rocks, I am using it on mine right now and the NB is cool as a cucumber (well, relatively speaking of course).

quad core is supported.
i try HR05 but it blocked by some caps near the NB, so i think TT ES2 is the right cooler 4 the NB

they are the same with the exception of the deluxe has ich8r and the pt has the ich8 SB so there are no raid on the PT version, it has two less sata connectors also, infact on my PT's that i had i could pull the little sticker off that said tforce 965pt off and the printed on the mobo was tforce p965 deluxe

as far as ram i have only heard bad about using ocz with these guys, most all other d9 works great with the board

the board has some tight subtimings which can cause some issues and the easiest way to get really high clocks is to use clockgen and memset, adjust the timings and then proceed up with clockgen unless you have really good ram that doesnt mind the really tight subs

MADMAX22, I haven't had any luck with my 965pt and memset. I set the timings loser with memset but i don't get any higher clocks with clockgen.

what other components do you have, ram/cpu

I'm having a heck of a time getting 500x7 stable. I suspect it's my ram, but maybe someone can give some insight.

500x6 is stable
500x7 will pass 1mb pi.

Ram is at 1:1 5-5-5-12 (Team group D9GMH...should go WAY higher).
Totally unstable at 4-4-4-12...which I don't understand. It's like the chipset is limiting my ram timings somehow? Is that possible? Chipset voltage is 1.45v, cpu vtt is at 1.3v and tried 1.4v as well. Ram voltage is at 2.3-2.4v. Anyone have any other suggestions? I'm using the very latest rabel's haven bios.

just by chance did you try vmch at 1.35, i know this board overvolts it alot, if your running 1.45 i think your around 1.68 real or something like that, did you beef up your NB cooling with a fan or anything

try using memset and mess with the subtimings a little and see what you can get, i know that my crucial ballistic didnt like the trfc that the board set which was like 24 i think, i upped it to 42 which is kind of loose but it helped alot

I have PQI TURBO 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDRII667 and an e6300 cpu. I've messed with all the voltage and run my ram at 2.1volts my cpu at 1.4 volts and tried to up that too so I know it must be my ram. I can get my fsb running at 450mhz but not any higher other wise random hard locks. I know that 900mhz might be the max for the 667mhz ram i have but if you could tell me what numbers to up in memset i might be able to get it running a bit faster.

Hey guys I've own two other Biostar systems been fan of them since OCing my Barton. So glad to see they are still rockin.

I have some questions though cause I'm really confused from reading conflicting things.

Is the newest revision OCing just as good as the older ones?
Which Bios would you guys are are the best use with Micron D9 Ram?
Does the 1066/1333 strap mod work and which is best on this mobo?

Last but not least since I read the one guy said the pencil mod works but I dont really understand it either.

What is this? like did you buy that little part at radio shack or something? I don't really get this mod since it's usually just pictures of the board and text. I may be dumb but at the same time I'm cautious. Does the pencil mod work just as good? Is anyone besides nate useing it? I hope someone can really dumb this mod up for me? Like I said I'm dumb :slapass:

Can someone confirm me that there is no modded bios thats unlock the CPU multi correct? (i mean the lower multi)
