Great to read the review. Thanks for posting.
I'm down to a couple board choices. The review said the ASUS P5W DH DELUXE was their choice though they didn't have the P5WD2-E Premium to test. I don't need most of the Deluxe's features but I like the driverless RAID. Any idea how these two boards will compare besides the obvious feature differences like the remote and wi-fi?
So many were expected in June :/
ABIT has both ab9 available... here some problems though
Is there any plans to refresh the p5wd2-e premium?
ATI is a real joker this time nobody really knows anything, but many suspects a lot.....too bad they have been this slow. getting some tested through and compared could have told us which board to chose...now i think i will wait until august/september until i know if they are good or bad...and available.
It's not Conroe that we're waiting for anymore (Comes out Monday) but a good overclocking board that will consistently do 450FSB. There are so few boards out now and they all are very expensive and cannot reach high FSBs. I don't want to pluck down $275 on the P5W when 2 weeks later a superior overclocking board will be out for $75 cheaper. Looks like we'll have Conroes before good motherboards.:(
I'm really getting tired of the SLI/CF crap, they should both agree on a dual GPU slot standard, so that all motherboards/chipsets can accomodate both... bunch of freaks IMO. they just polute and make the entire build process more complicated than it should be.
DS3 + e6400 @ 3.8ghz? :stick: :stick: :stick: :stick:

" overclocking was outstanding, but we suspect that higher voltage adjustments on the MCH would allow even higher overclocks. The ASUS stops at 1.65V, while the Intel BadAxe goes on to 1.725V. We would welcome ASUS raising the top voltage on the MCH. There are reports that modding the ASUS to reach 1.9V MCH allows FSB overclocks to almost 500 instead of the current limit of around 440 to 450 FSB "
"But the North Bridge chip may get really hot, and even reach dangerous levels if the cooling solution is not efficient enough"
The ASUS P5W DH Deluxe max V on the northbridge is 1.65 Volt. we need more. I think every board, even the cheap msi bastards can do 450 with enough juice in the hood :)

No guys, sorry that my list isn't updated at all the last few days but I really don't have any time to do it. And I'm leaving tomorrow to italy ^^ I'll be back on the 1st of August. Then I'll update my list ASAP!
Alright hurry up and update it when you're back! I'm counting on ya mate!
-Jo.
p.s. hjave fun in italy, beautiful country =]
anyone planing to get that cheaper AsRock motherboards to see how far it can go with a E6300 ?
-i got a 20pin power supply, a Geforce 6800 AGP card and 2x512mb DDR memory..
To overclock these Conroe and Allendale, I can use a low memory and set a divisor on it?
the few tests on it says it wont do much at all....its a very fair ordinary board...but no abilities to oc
interesting news : maybe old, maybe new : http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/200...timings/1.html
Agreed, CF and SLI should work on all 3 vendors top end boards and be done with it.
How come nobody has been trying any of the other 975X boards that have been updated to support Core 2?
Example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813186097
hmmm. a bit awkward, though the foxconn looks to be a good board.
a new motherboard with a PWM refresh is required for the conroe cpu, this board will not work with conroe :rolleyes:Quote:

So, what do you guys think now that AMD as officially bought ATi? Will there actually be an Intel based RD600 chipset from ATi? Damnation. This is starting to look really ugly now. :(
It 's in french but to say that RD600 is dead .. :(

new review gigabyte dq6 : http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=6233 :)
Seems to me that the asus P5W DH Deluxe and gigabyte ds3 still are the master in fsb
This one didn't screw me over, but another one did. They changed their BadAxe boards to show that they supported Core2Duo also... I just got mine, a 302 version.Quote:

It's out of stock now and the OP says the 1.03G revision boards should be out post July 20.
As far as I know, there isn't. newegg's site states they cannot check the boxes. Shortly after I made my BadAxe order someone posted a review stating they were still sending out the 302s so I emailed them to ask regardless of what their site said. I got a reply almost immediately stating they couldn't check the version numbers as they had no access to where the boxes were.
I asked them how they could tell if their motherboards were Core 2 Duo supported to update their website without being able to see the boxes, they didn't answer that question. =p Or the fact that they had other non-Core 2 Duo boards listed as supporting the CPU.
At least they are taking the mobo back for a full refund.
hey guys; anyone got this or any comments on how this overclocks:
MSI 975X Platinum PowerUp Edition Motherboard
apparently there was a thread with it and coolaler getting 433FSB on an unmodded mobo?
Just do a search on "msi 975x platinum" and you'll find 4 or 5 threads started by Coolaler using this board with Conroe and Kentsfield. From what I've seen, this board is what I want, I just can't seem to find any definitive answers on when it will be available. (only places I see taking preorders for it are ALL in Australia, one listed the 28th as an ETA)
any other mobo out there other than the dfi 590 and bad axe with 3 decent pci-e slots?
i wouldnt worry about the ati/amd situation right now...or in near future....think of it this way: every board that chooses ati instead of intel or nvidia chipset is a coin in the sack for amd/ati regardless that ppl buy an intel cpu....so they will still try to make the best for intel cpus....perhaps even harder now...in the future intel will most likely try to make obstructions for it, but its too late for the conroe now.

p5w dh if you want to overclock (the badaxe is good but requires mods)
975X is the chipset and P5W DH is the motherboard model. If you want a 975X chipset board then the P5W DH is about your best option for the moment.Quote:

How would 945G performance be with Conroe, reasonable? I'm debating whether to:
1. Screw it, buy Antec Solo and DS3 and forget SFF
2. Buy a 945G MB in a week or two for cheap, and buy SFF case and build now. Then buy a "real" motherboard, possibly RD600 or 965G in a month or two.
Asus P5W DH Deluxe doing 500 mhz fsb, seems a "real" board to me :p: ( not so short :D )
WHY...that would be directly stupid for amd....now they can make a little money even on intels cpu sales...they just have to be among the best.....Quote:

Honestly, while I initially thought the idea for the "Crazy Cool" was great, I ended up being very frustrated by it. I spent a bit of time trying to gently remove it, and came to the conclusion that it is not really meant to be removed - which is very dissapointing on such an excellent overclockers board as it prevented me from using high end air coolers such as the Noctua NH-U 12 and the ThermalRight Ultra 120 "

not much actually but seems ati chipset has same problems with high fsb as 975X
I told people the crazy cool does not just "come off"!!!!...there is a spungy thermal pad that holds the crazy cool to the motherboard. It dosen't just come off without ripping the thermal pad apart or leaving residue behind...and it could void the warranty!Quote:

i am aware of that, but just the idea..even in long term is stupid....ppl decide for a cpu..and THEN they find a board that works good with it afterwards...so if amd/ati can make ppl buy their chipset and not intels, intel will make less money...that simple.Quote:

The combination of the increased base FSB (compared to socket 939) and overclockability of the CPU to much higher levels you are in constant combat with your stupid board.
It's really too early to tell. That board is an early reference design on only a 4-layer PCB. Let's all take a breath and see what DFI can do with it on a 6-layer PCB and Oscar Wu on the job. :idea:Quote:

Intel could squash ither one of them if they really wanted to but then would face a lot of lawsuits and investigations on the matter in court. I think there is a decent chance Intel will step up and outbid AMD before the end of the year because Intel could use ATI's chipsets and Crossfire. It will be interested to see what takes place after the first of the year.Quote:

You're talking about this tiny market as if it really meant something. AMD will have their asses well spanked for the next 9 months to a year. All ATI can do is make this worse. RD600 is just one more reason NOT to buy AMD processors and at best its about 100 million for ATI. Dude AMD is small but even for them that's Chump Change. Even ATI can't stop the Booty Kicking AMD will be getting until they come up with something better=P

They have to make use of all their fab space since they don't have a competative cpu design to manufactor that would be sellable in such quantity. IE Keep producing as much, just a different wiggit; with the idea of hopefully holding up the same profit margin. It's a tactical admission they expect to lose on the cpu end.

Haven't read much of this thread. Anyway i'll be using a 6700 on a single stage so i'll want up to around 430x10 bootable. Am i right in saying that the P5WDH and BadAxe304 are my only choices?
yes..but you need a really lucky cpu too...the new steppings are not good...even great cooling dont make much of a difference....

Simple Charlie, regular reasonable priced boards, not their "trying to set a new high price trend to see if it will stick" $200+ boards.
What we need for that to happen is for all the idiots NOT to buy boards at those prices, waiting until they become even remotely reasonable.
What's so bad about the ~$150 i965 boards from Gigabyte, Abit, Asus and Intel or the $50-80 boards from ASRock?Quote:

I need well over 400 fully stable from bootup with a 9 or 10x multi, the 150$ "budget" Conroe board -- the DS3 -- does not deliver this.
We need more boards that clock like the Badaxe & P5WDH but don't cost 250$.
If mine, whenever I get it, goes to 3.6GHz I'm happy as hell. At an even 3GHz it kicks the crap out of everything on the market except higher clocked Conroes.Quote:

@AAmeeting: the power regulating area differs so much from netburst only boards that it had to be redesigned.

Yes several webshops have added the intel G965 boards to there site, but it's pre order ;)
I would like to build a workstation, that has to be really, really reliable. Unfortunately, I cannot afford Woodcrest.
So I am thinking of an E6700 with 4 x 2 GB DDR-557 ECC RAM (8GB total) from MDT. I will not play games or do video editing, so a XFX 6200TC with a GeForce 6200 TC will be more than enough. The case will be a Stacker 810 with three intaking and two exhausting 120mm fans for decent cooling.
For the 8 GB of ECC RAM there only seem to be the Asus P5W Boards or the Bad Axe Intel D975XBXKLKR. I do not like the Asus Deluxe, because I do not want WLAN. But the Premium or the WS would be fine.
Do you know any other boards, which can take 4 x 2 GB ECC?
Can anybody already give some estimates, which one could be the most reliable board? I do not want to oc, but it has to be stable and reliable.
Asus advertises their superior thermal design. Is the chipset really cooler than on the bad axe? If true, the P5W might last longer?
There was a thread about dying Bad Axes and it was suggested that there might be a problem with the combination with a Thermaltake Big Typhoon (pins a getting contact with the backplane).
If I do not want to overclock, is it safer to use the Intel stock fan, or to use a TBT, which would cool better, but the boards may not be designed with the TBT in mind?
I know found these pics of P5W64 WS just thought I would share them:woot:
