WHY DON'T WE RENAME THE THREAD TO "OBR news, info, fans !"

It's to me a :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing wonder there still are people who are quoting him and believe in every :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing word he says. We know it and, and we already knew before that he's a stupid clown-attention-whore and haven't XtremeSystems admins already forbidden any discussions about him since he was banned from here for a reason aswell...?

Not sure about you guys, I come to this section to read about AMD not some fake misinformation by someone with split personality disorders who is also banned from here. I already reported this thread and hopefully it will be cleaned up soon.

Damn I feel much better getting this of my chest :yepp: :rofl:

Of course, it will affect other words, like cobra, but that's easily avoided by using " obr" inistead. :D

What is so useful that I might've missed, have the braintrust of XS come to the conclusion that all he says is either BS or fake? Good going I think most people knew this before he started faking stuff about BD.

Actually it's not. For whatever reason amd chose to market it as cores.

In reality however BD is more akin to 4 cores / 8 threads as they share resources.

I have said this since the beginning.

There are however other reasons for calling them cores.

Example you can disable HT with intel.

AMD's design to my knowledge however does not allow for disabling a core in a module, I could be wrong however.

These ARE cores in Zambezi. It is from hardware and software perspective a true 8 core processor.Each module can retire 8 macroops per cycle(4 per core). Each core has a dedicated FMAC (And an additional FMAC if opportunity arises). The fact that cores share certain parts is because this is a smart thing to do from engineering POV. You save space and improve performance and perf./watt.
In the end,why would consumers even care? If it performs like an 8 core processor for all intents and purposes,why wouldn't people refer to it as to an 8 core processor(even if they don't personally think it is one)?

I have a question. Doesn't BD have a 4 issue decoder so how can it retire 8 macro? I am not good with this stuff so I can be wrong any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks:D.

Not really, it's still consuming something power wise and you have no control over a specific core in a module.

The front end/decoding stage in BD (and K10) takes the x86 instructions,decodes them into RISK-like ops that AMD calls macro ops and dispatches them in two groups of 4.Each x86 instruction is typically translated to 1 or 2 macro ops. Note that AMD's and intel's terminology on what is micro and macro op is not the same.

As for "sharing penalty" who cares about that really? It is part of the design. Yeah sure,a theoretical 8 core Bulldozer with non shared parts would maybe perform 10-15% better but why this fact makes actual Bulldozer any lesser 8 core processor? The "other" bulldozer would in turn consume more power,have higher manufacturing cost(bigger die) and probably lower clock(due to higher power draw). So how does all this make actual Bulldozer "lesser 8 core"?
Sharing penalty is a small price to pay for what you get in turn : 8 real cores working @ high(er) clock speeds and consuming less power while having smaller die.
