Try switching memory slots. Memtest (DOS version) is fantastic for isolating problems. If Memtest is error free you know most settings are good, you may just need to up NB\SB voltage and / or CPU / RAM volts.

Woot! Got my new P5Q Pro from Newegg. Turned out that my other board did die after all. :(
Anyways, this new board already came pre-flashed with 1406 BIOS so I'm good to go. Hopefully I won't screw anything up this time.
:up:
Well it seems after much struggle for a while I think I finally got this figured out. The whole time it was the fsb strap that was causing me the trouble, not that I was selecting the wrong one, but that I was not letting the MB select it. It would seem that "AUTO" in that spot solved all my fsb stuggles. Before I would use manual and set it myslef to 333 or 400 strap and could not even boot above 465 fsb, I set it to auto and get into windows at 550fsb, although currently at 500 until I get it stable. Hope this helps some others with the same issues.
On another note, I have checked some of the voltages for the NB, Ram etc and found bios 1406 greatly overvolts everything.
Bios NB
1.26=1.37 real
1.28=1.38
1.30=1.40
1.32=1.42
1.34=1.45
Bios Ram
2.02=2.20 real
Iam still in the process of going through these to see what other voltages are out of whack, although it's difficult to get inthere due to access because of my water block covering the fsb Vtt and Cpu PLL.

Hey Ket,
Does any of your mods include a change to the FSB strap? or is it mainly memory timings and compatibility?
Hi
Having trouble with my normal P5Q getting over 400fsb, using mbios 1611
E7200, P5Q, 2x1gb adata vitesta 1066, 2x1gb dominator 1066, corsair tx650, hd4850
Im stable at 400x8.5 vcore 1.3375
nb 1.28, fsb 1.24, LLC on
linx 8 passes
another stable config.
395x9 vcore 1.4
nb 1.24, fsb 1.28 LLC on

with these other settings doesn´t even boots into windows

Hello ppl
Im new here .. actually registered just because one question :D
System:
MB: P5Q deluxe ... BIOS American megatrends Ver. 1004 date 7/23/2008 ( CPU-Z data)
Disk: 2x WD 250 gb; 16Mb ... raid 0 (strip)
2x2Gb Corsair RAM 5,5,5,18
PROBLEM:
When i boot my comp .. if i hawe external USB disk plugged in (on my front pannel USB plug) it wants to boot it from that
usb disk. My settings in BIOS are
1. disk drives
2. CDROM
2 Externall
when i go into bios with USB disk plugged in (or USB key for that matter) it only shopws to boot from that thing .... grrr
I also couldent Install Vista untill i didnt unplug all USB drives out.
QUESTION:
Would bios updates from ASUS fix this problem ?
Or would any of bioses that i downloaded from here (P5Q Dlx mBIOS 1403 and P5Q Series 1611 mBIOSes) fix this problem ?
I am newb at comp. hardware and i dont intent to owerclock or modify settings any ways, just fix this anoying problem.
SIDENOTE:
Is it possible to make motherboard boot any faster ??? all nagging screens take time as my vista boot time ffs :(
I also got Saphire radeon 4870 silent efficiency, and read somewhere that flashing its bios makes it work better. Anyone here hawe soime exp with that ?
THX if replied .... Deychy
There are some 4870 Sapphire cards that did ship with a somewhat faulty BIOS, but you need to know its exact model to know if it was affected or not. I think it was only the 1GB version tho, not sure.
as for your BIOS question, you should update it to the latest stable version and check. Although I believe it's just the boot order you have set up wrong, it could help.
Additionally, I'd like to make public that I got rid of that pesky aaCenter.exe thing that installs with ASUS softweare, and curious, after having the temp bug on a daily basis, I haven't gotten it for a week now...
Rule of thumb, never use asussetup, always use the regular setup file ;)
I finally got my board to work somewhat good. So im gonna try and flash with ur modded bios again.
But i dont know what to choose:P
I will run a e5200 and 2x2gb ocz pc8500 reaper mems and the Asus P5Q vanilla.
My main issue atm is that my cpu cant handle the fsb:( So what bios would u recomend to me?
Well, Ket, you'll be happy to know that the BIOS isn't the problem on my board. I got a new BIOS chip from ASUS, pre-flashed with 1613, and it DIDN'T WORK!
Just happened to be that after the flash, it went DOA. It was only maybe 4 days old too. Dang it!
I guess the board is next then. Hopefully I can wing an advance RMA. I don't want to pull all of the parts and have them laying around .. esp with a 2yr old!
Crap. I was 100% positive it would work. I can't see anything wrong with the board, caps, etc etc. No black marks or scorching. I think the volt regs are gone myself..
Ouch. I didn't have things that bad but my first P5Q Pro started to get fickle after just a few months use, dodgy CPU fan header, so off on RMA it went.
I've never had that aacenter thing, EVER. Not by using the regular setup files. Never had the temp bug either.. I'll assume its because of aacenter never going near my system :cool:
You couldn't use the AFUDOS I posted up? Its worked twice for me now, no need for that kdatool thing, which imo is very bloated. Don't need the BIOS files people can grab a BIOS file for their board easy.
I hear ya ... I've never had a board just up and fail on me like that, EVER!
I called up ASUS this morning, and talked to them (they have a disclaimer that is sent with the BIOS chip saying if it doesn't work than call this number...)
They offered an RMA, and even cross-shipped without any form of CC collateral. The board will be here tomorrow. I prepare, assemble, test, and ship back the old board when I'm all done.
I think they know that something went really wrong with the manufacturing process on some of these boards. I couldn't believe they offered to help that easily and that fast!
Glad that they are helping me out though, I was thinking I'd be out for 6 weeks, and I'd have to find a home for my parts to keep them protected!
All in all, it's only been 6 days, and for 2 of them it was the weekend ;)! Including shipping! There's some award winning service!
I'd say its bloated.. 500MB-something unzipped, I gutted it all and it went down to something like 20MB :p: Seriously, who needs BIOS files for THEIR mobo, of which they probably have a copy of the last "good" BIOS anyway. Just seems unessessary.
Consider yourself lucky! us folk in the UK would never get treatment like that. (I've tried with various suppliers who simply sent the stuff in the wrong direction, although they KNEW getting the stuff back wouldn't be a problem, they wouldn't just resend the order, they HAD to get the stuff back from the delivery company first :\ )Quote:

You know, my P5Q is still going strong and running great, but I didn't have any luck with any of the modded BIOSes. I am running, I believe, the 2nd or 3rd newest drivers from Asus. I tried the latest ones, and many in between and this particular BIOS definitely gives me the highest and most stable overclocks, but the CPU temp is reported incorrectly in the AI Suite and in the BIOS. I have to rely on CoreTemp and Everest, which give a completely different temp reading than the BIOS, and the readings from CoreTemp and Everest seem a lot more realistic, too.
Ket could you also please mod the latest 1901 bios for P5Q-E??? Thx...
haha he's done doing this. Just saw the 1901 on the website, my P5Q-E will be here today.

Hey guys,
unfortunately Ket stopped working on the BIOS for P5Q series. But if he let us convince him to continue his mission, he will take care of my request first and attach "NB GTL Reference" to the BIOS for the P5Q "Vanilla". :D
