CAS5 not working right is because you must adjust secondary timings. Board is tweaked for 1200mhz 4-4-4-x. Well, bios is, anyway.

my ram if I set it to 400mhz does not like cas5 sometimes..so when I went to test 380 1:1 sync...I lowered my cpu vcore to what was 24hrs blend stable, reset my ram for settings that worked at 400mhz 4-4-4-4-18-2t with 2.2v...I saved settings and rebooted and it said verifying at the second screen..this happens once in awhile and reset and usually will boot
so I reset..then it said updating DMI and hungat second screen(no biggie I tohught happened before at higher sync setting of 390) so I reset again to enter bios and change settings and now no post...just C1 error

no m8y....straight back to the Supplier. But you gotta be sure the Board is dead or they might charge Test fees. You gotta get hold of another brand of ram & try to be sure. My second board took 2 x 512Mb Geil 6400 first time. Then I tried 2 x 1gb 4300's, (the ones I use now) & got a C1 error. Then I put the 6400's in & got a C1?? Tried both sticks of 6400 on their own in slot 3...still got a C1 error. Put 1 stick of 4300 in slot 3, still got a C1. Then swapped for the other 4300 in Slot 3 & got a Post??????? Worked fine for 3 days on Air with Stock Voltages ...went in it's box for 2 weeks, ......finished the Water Cooled Case & the Board was DEAD on first power up!?!?
No Diagnostic LED's, ...no CPU Fan Spin up, ....but the Yellow LED by the ATX connector Lit up? Since I upgraded to a personal Mk III RD600, I've been fine so far & this 4300 Geil RAM is fine at Default Bios Settings. Looking back, there has never been anything wrong with my Ram SPD timings. It all points towards the mobos being faulty in the first place.

Yes, RD600 is not likin' Crucial's SPD, or something. I have many crucial sets, and almost all have issues in RD600, but not in BadAxe2, Bad Axe1, or P5WDH. Again, like with other boards that have issues booting micron, this is generally a timing issue.

However, sometimes these DIMMs die. I do have one set which has one stick that just does not boot SPD timings on ANY board...even tho it's mate will 10 out of 10 times. But i have been finding that alot of boards boot with TRD much tighter than SPD timings, and this MAY be part of the issue, however I think it's more likely that your sticks are starting to go bad. I opened a thread a while ago about crucial changing PCB's on me(some of my sets are different), and this has ponited out to me the differences between the problematic sticks, and those that works fine...there are a slew of different resistors and such on the memory PCB that have different values than the older sticks.

Do your crucial's have gold lettering on the edge, or not?

We know this already & are aware it became old before it's time due to delay after delay. Intels NDA was causing headaches; AMD was lurking around readying to swallow up ATI; DFI were even going through BIG Internal changes. This Chipset just really didn't get the attention it needed & perhaps the board design also lacked slightly.
From what I saw of BA2, the benchies were comparable. Just due to the Ram Ratios & how it all worked together, I was looking at shelling out another £287 on RAM to get the BA2 as fast as the RD600 on 4300. Likewise, the RD600 on OCZ9200 just couldn't justify itself in any manner.
BA 2 Leagacy USB is just utter cr4p. Intel have never got it right. Abit boards never got it quite right, but Asus did!? BA2 USB Legacy fails when you actually need input...up to that point, my mouse/keyboard was always lit. :rolleyes:

I'm glad you're happy with BA2. maybe I was unlucky & had a cr4p board, but after shelling out £350 on a 1KW PC P&C PSU, If you think I'm happy seeing the 3.3V rail undervolting, you'd be wrong! You also be wrong thinking it's ever right to have an ES CPU & yet still NOT be able to get to the Multis. Now Changing Multis on an Intel Chipset is something worth looking at. If DFI released a 975x UT LP based board, I'd be one of the first to pre-order.

Did you ever have to do a "Ram Dance" to get this Crucial working on First Power up of the board?

I'm not forcing "Jack" on you cadaveca & only reporting exactly what I have seen. I beg to differ that your system on a lesser multi with 500fsb ASYNC is faster than Higher Multi Lower FSB in SYNC. Once you go anywhere other than 1:1, bandwidth efficiency is compromised. Doesn't matter where you go with lower Multis of Faster FSBs, Lower Multis just suck.
Opinions are personal, I'm just saying what I've seen.
Lets leave it at this, I have better things to do than argue O/C basics & there is so much do in so little time.

lol lower multi, higher fsb, bandwidth efficiency decreases...of course it does! yo are pumping same mhz @ higher bandwidth! Has nothing to do with the lower multi, but basic function of cpu!:stick: Yes, this is affected by bios, and this is what allows this chipset to scale as it does! What's the big deal?:stick:Check my posts, I've posted various scores in various threads. this board sucks in aquamark, but pulls a bit more in 3dMarks than 975. 179,xxx AQ3 RD600=194,xxx 975x. 3Dmarks 20-30points higher in '06. SPI1m 14.344 RD600 13.600 975x. Pretty good for a 2-year old chipset.

well a little update:

Never had to do a RAM dance...

My crucial booted fine right out of the box on my RD600 ...put them in slot 1 & 3....installed everything ...hit power button and post and installed winxp..all at default bios settings of 1.8v and whatever timings never really checked....

Never had any ram issues at all....if pushed it would still post and go into bios and make changes..ram never got more than 2.2v settings...bios reports 2.2v -2.24v

I realize the Crucial could have gotten bad ....

my Crucial are 10th anniv with blue heat spreaders...cant see any gold writing(or any writing for that matter) anywhere..I bought these last nov when Newegg had them for sale(sat for 3 mo before I got my mobo)

anyway..ran to BB and got 1G stick KVR 667 1.8v ram(only thing on sale)....ATX, 8pin unplugge, battery in and cmos jumper on clear for 4 more hrs...reset jumper, plugged everything in again..........popped it inot the mobo and guess what...nothing...C1 error....

I have tried slot 3 and 4...

This board is going back to either DFI or newegg(I really hate to send it to Newegg but I did pay them a$40 premium when the first sold them....

Did you try a 5+ second HELD Reset/Pwr on with everything ot of the board?

I'm sure you have swapped all you can & reckon you will have faster results with New Egg. Depends on thier Terms & Conditions compared to DFI's turn around. I guess I am lucky to have a fair supplier. Furthest I ever got to Registering any DFI board was crashing in IE with SQL Errors in the browser. I gave up after 3 attempts.

I did try this ...I had ATX/8pin, power cord was attached ..ram was in place...held reset, then pressed power button and waited 4 sec ....released power then reset...tried power same issue

I did with case buttons and buttons on mobo

I am going to go through newegg most likely as I a mpretty sure they have 1 yr replacement warrant...I paid $270..today price was $225

Pull Everything...Power Conns, Floppies, CDROMS, CARDS, CPU, RAM. Then Set Reset CMOS Jumper to pins 2 & 3 & Flip the Battery. Go make a coffee. :)
Put CMOS Jumper to Run again on 1 & 2, Fit CPU, 1 stick in slot 3, fit graphics card, attatch bare essential power connectors & give PSU Juice. Be sure the Yellow LED by the ATX Board header lights up. Do the EZ Start up procedure. After you've let go of the 5 second RESET hold, you Should get a Double Post, but only Monitor Sync after you hear the second post. If you're alive here, power off & install Stick 2 in slot 1 & just turn it on. If it's dead, turn it off, take out the working Slot 3 Dimm & put the one u just tried in slot one into Slot 3. Then power on. If this is ok, repeat with the last stick into slot 1 again. If it kills it, the board aint right cos u just prooved BOTH sticks work in either channel but not with both together. I had to do this with board #2 & it lasted 3 days @ stock voltages.
Needless to say, if you're still dead, it has to be either the board or it fried your ram whilst it was in Spec voltages. Personally from what I've seen here & your explanation of it all your end, your board has rolled over & died!

As we have said, the boards are appearing to have some fragility to their electrical abilities whilst remaining @ stock voltages. Either DFI's manufacturing Spec needs looking at or the guys in China are using nasty parts whilst chargingDFI their LP UT Quality prices. :rolleyes:

Today I was just messing around to find the max FSB of this board. I could get about 515 with AMD system manager but it wasn't stable at all. The best stability I could get was 510 Mhz FSB just to see what it could do, of course all with very high voltages. I will try under water and phase shortly. Nothing tweaked for SuperPI, Ram at 4-4-4-10 @ 400Mhz, not pushing it at all, just searching for FSB.

Any problems when mounting the HR-05 on the NB?

No problems. The HR-05 went on the NB and SB easily. I had to use the foam adhesive spacer square the HR-05 came with with added extra stability, but it's on there very solid.

Hmm, nice. Now I'm cursing my days that I sold my HR-05 SLI. :(
How are the temps compared to the standard heatsink?

I actually didn't do much testing with the stock heatsink. The NB temperatures were a little higher but I didn't pump the max volts through it either like I do now from time to time. I'd say the HR-05 is marginally better, nothing groundbreaking.
