hi guys i found this on the asus forum, hope its of some use-
Hi p5b,
I have managed to get the new audio driver 4580 from puzzleman in another thread about sound probelms. You can get it from here.
It is not the full install package. To install it you must go to device manager, expand Sound, video and game controllers.
Then you must right click on SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio , then click on update driver and then browse to the location of the downloaded driver (At least that's what I did). Everything so far seems to be working pefectly EAX is enabled and Windows XP boots alot quicker.
Good luck and let me know how you get on.
here is a link to the file-

THX it works perfect.Sound OK- Boot 15 sec. faster
awesome will try when i get home after work. when was this driver released?
sorry guys i have no idea were it came from.i found it on the asus forum.
any ideas why my d930 wont clock as high in this deluxe as it does in the p5wd2.
i'm getting my e6300 on monday anyway but i'd ave liked to run it at 4 or 4.2ghz till then.
i can give you a link to were i got it from if you like?.
anyone seen any updated x64 drivers ?
The inf file says DriverVer = 09/08/2006 so it looks quite old, I wonder why asus haven't updated the official drivers yet.
yeah the latest ones i found were 4570 dated 07/25/2006 :(

TI66ER how did you enable EAX? I see no option, also no soundmax console, maybe I shouldn't have totally uninstalled the old soundmax drivers first :/
not even a post beep with your settings.Quote:

I tried booting in safe mode as well with the 450Mhz FSb but still the same problem.
It simply freezes either on teh welcome screen or if I pass that screen, when it start loading windows, it simply stops.
And this problem does not appear in Vista.
Last night I flashed the BIOS with version 0711 and same problem. I used the o/c profile whre the memory timing are set manually (4-4-4-12) but this time I set the memory to 350Mhz. It worked. I have to increase slowly the FSB again to find the max.
By the way, all the voltages are set to the max except for Vcore set to 1.6V. C1E is disabled as well. I am stucked and don't understand how a bios update can stuff up everything. well done Asus !
And the worse and when flashing back with the version that used to work, it does not work anymore !
well turns out the usb not working was b/c i had a gamepad that was dying and wreaking havoc. new sound drops my load substantially to about 3-5 bars now vs 15 originally
The new 4580 audio driver seems to be working nicer for me as well. Not extensively tested yet though. Just boot times and navigation around windows has improved. (unsure about the other issues)
(From 15.5x to 8.5x on the blue bootup bar)
Dont know if this is offtopic:
Do i have to own some digital speakers to use the onboard sound or can i use my analog speakers?
I cant seem to get any sound when i use the onboard, so im stuck using my audigy 2 LZ.

The driver came from Asus Rep, and its NOT official Release.
the 4580 Driver will work only as an upgrade for 4570 DTS drivers that are already installed.
you need ot go to device manager->HD Audio SoundMax, Driver Tab ->and choose update driver-Then point it to that directory that contains the files.
I can confrim that it shortens the boot time, and it looks like the boot problem is allot better.
i still feel that browsing through folders isnt perfect. I still feel that without hte audio drivers i'm having a quicker overall feel with the computer.
I had undergone a massive computer crash (used partion magic , and never recoverd from it...so i started fresh.)
i'm still bulding the system.
Hope you guys can continue to be on the subject till its fully resolved.
