Shouldn't need to play with voltage at stock, the board will detect it (well, read it from the CPU, because Intel codes the req'd voltage to run at stock right into the chip). Also known as its stock VID.

The chip sounds like it's DOA, unfortunately, if another chip works in the board.

Anyways, as for rolling back to a previous BIOS, it is definitely do-able but not with any stock ASUS software. Use a freeware piece of software called the KodaKey tool at its latest ver of 0.72. Google ;)!

Works great, and I speak from experience. I went to 1406 without any problems on a Q6600 :)!

Sounds like your Quad is DOA. :( Hope your next Q works as it should :up: Somewhere in this thread is also various means that have been detailed to get away from 1613. My preferred method is to simply make a boot disk, put the BIOS you want and afudos on the disk and flash from DOS.

Anyone know which of the P5Q Deluxe Bioses is best for High FSB??? I am currently on 1702m Bios and I can't seem to go above 465. Two cpu's I have had both have problems crossing 465 with this bios. As soon as I go above 465 even with a 6 multi and same voltage I don't even boot, so i am left with the conclusion that's it's the bios or mb or both. Any help would be appreciated.

Either i have had a very bad luck or this is a real piece of a :banana::banana::banana::banana:. It could do 400fsb with a little luck and cold air and fans everywhere, now sitting in my chassi it locks up above 360fsb:rofl: GJ asus:down:

A regular P5Q is hardly a good choice for OCing...

Ah crap, I just borked my board last night.

Being totally irresponsible (I was meaning on continuing my homework but wanted to see how far my P5Q Pro + E8400 would overclock) I tried flashing my 1613m BIOS to an earlier unmodified BIOS using KodaKey tool. It worked, so I tried flashing to Ket's newest "enhanced" mBIOS.

Guess what, after it said "Your system will restart in 5 seconds" the system restarted and I had a blank screen.

So I tried powering it down and pressing the power button. Same thing.

Then I tried clearing the CMOS (remove power cable, battery, move jumper, wait 1hr, move jumper back, put battery back in, connect everything back) and that did nothing.

So I thought maybe it was my RAM. I then put in a cheap, 1.8V rated stick... still nothing! Crap!

Just now, I tried using the AMIBOOT.ROM suggestion and I cannot get it working. My keyboard (PS/2) doesn't boot up with any lights, so nothing is working.

Looks like I'll have to RMA this thing. Damn. :shakes:

I said to use that BIOS with extreme caution as I hadn't tested that one, silly boy :p: I'll remove it just in case theres something bunk with it.

I've had good luck with your mBIOS's though. It was probably just a small bug in that last one that might have caused my motherboard to brick.

Same thing happened to me, bud :confused:..

Except, I was using the 1406 modded BIOS, and it went bonkerz.

Tried a different floppy drive, cables, power connectors but no go there.

Today I tried swapping out the video card and power supply, but still no go (I had another system do the SAME thing and it was the 12v rail on the PSU blown).

It's either the RAM, CPU, or MOBO. Don't think it's the ram, tried each stick in all 4 slots.

All 3 of the above components are brand new.

I can't get my hands on RAM or a CPU until Tuesday. Argh!

I think it's the board though, I'm arranging an RMA with the purchaser.

I'm about to order another one from Newegg, and then RMA this one soon after.

Just sucks that I messed up something so stupidly, I mean if I was doing my college homework.. this would have never happened. :brick:

Any nice memory sticks to go with my P5Q vanilla? I'm currently using 1611 mbios, ocing 333 x 9 @ 1.425v Any suggestions for me to go higher? (assume enough cooling)

I have a E6600(65nm) and the highest fsb I've got was around 350. Should I go for the later E8400/E8500(45nm, lower voltage) for better results? 400 x 9 seems to me a dream. Please see the cpu-z pix.

Any idea how I can go back to 1406 from 1702? I tried in bios and told me I couldn't do it because of an older version. Then I tried with asus update and told me its got a different checksum or something like that and wouldn't let me do it.:down:

I prefer Koda's flashing tool as it does a through wipe of the bios bootblock... most users flash biosses when they got issues with ram , not happy of the current stability... I absolutely avoid flashing in windows, but to each his own...

What I did was to order a replacement bios chip for my Pro. It's a lot cheaper and easier than removing the board for replacement or rma. You can also get your existing borked chip re-flashed by this company if you don't want to do a hot flash with another working chip:

it does, that's exactly how i downgraded. download the vista version. however, i believe 64 bit Vista is not supported.

I just tried again, and it tells me theres no support for this OS or it tells me theres no Asus MB present ??????, I don't know what else to try right now.
